Nice work mate, you have taken to the sky with a drone also. What type did you get?
Second hand DJI spark. I used to have a Mavic, it was better, but the spark suits my budget and needs. I think it was $300
Epic cuz ❤
Recently got myself an old kneeboard that has no fins and I’m a beginner surfer who has never used a board without fins. This gave me all the motivation I needed to get out there and give it a crack. Absolutely hectic stuff! Subbed!
@taylajadecouper Wow! Haha. Not the demographic I expected, but definitely the one I needed haha. I have some good surfing episodes on here too 😀 thanks for the sub ❤️
Ah one of those days, but still better than a shit day at work.
Nice to meet you this morning my twitch is Chewieaf and off-roadaf for yt
Hey mate. Forster Local and a member of Green Point RFS.. It is a disgrace that the council can just let the trash build up like that. Half of the shit left behind would have taken up less space in the car then it did when they took it out there originally... Todays generation is nothing but fucking lazy and pathetic. Let alone leave it like that for 3 months after your initial call for help. I want to thank you on behalf of the Manning/Great Lakes community for this. Not only did you get rid of any potential contaminants but you brought the natural beauty of this area. But for a firey perspective, you removed a potential bushfire. Wouldnt take much for some idiot to see that pile light it up. Old bar being the closed brigade it would still take them time to get there..... by then who knows how far she would have spread. Well done mate. Need more like you in this world!
Love it!!
How long was the actual trip?
@@Julie-s9l this was like 6 hours. Did you mean the other video with tot? That was 1 hour.
@MiddlewayGoodLife no, this one. Just wondered. Seems like she was happy just cruising around 🥰
My little kids and my grandkids loved being in my ute because they got to sit in the front, the looks on your daughters face would seem to be that she is seeing the moving world in front of her for the time. Priceless. 0:49
Nice one,she was moving along well towards the end. I used to own a keel boat that had to make some headway before the keel stopped sliding sideways also.
It's always way harder than what you think it will be. I got real skinny K1 kayak second hand for $200. And I thought I could paddle it first time up and down the creek but I got about 200m very wobbly then went swimming. I found my stomach muscles would give out then it was time for swimming lessons. Took ages but now I can paddle it.
I think you’ve inspired me to add one of these to my under used water vessel collection. Just found a full setup for $50 on Marketplace ha ha
Another great video. Love to see the progress. If you want to see some adventure travel on a windsurfer google jono dunnett.
Just some advice that you didn't ask for - If you can add a heap more tension on your down haul and enough on your outhaul so that the sail isn't luffing on to your boom. You'll probably find that your sail will hold a much better shape. Enjoooy it
@@274styler I swear the tighter I pull the downhaul the more luffing I get. I think the luff is not supposed to curve?? Luke.. if I bend the mast, it begins to crinkle the luff. It does look like I could have pulled the outhaul more.
Love seeing all the progress of your videos bro!!
Awsome jake
Amazing how some slightly better equipment has made the difference! I'm really enjoying watching this. Thank you.
I remember the 80's, those things were the toys of ultra rich wankers because they cost the same as a chippy's months wage, today i guess you would call them hipsters. So pleased to see it turned to good use at last.
Nice effort. It is as great a sport as you think it is :) Tips here same as my other comments, eventually invest in a sail/rig with a few battens and a modern sail plan - it will make a huge difference. As far as the rigging of this old school sail in this video, based on your POV at 6:37 there was neither enough downhaul or outhaul. Thats why the luff 'sock' had all those wrinkles in it and the sail is flapping around while you're lifting it out of the water. With 2-3" more downhaul and outhaul, that won't be present and even this non-battened sail will be more manageable in a light breeze.
Nice job. Your boom might be about 1-2" high for your height. Try lowering it a little bit in the cutout. Lovely sail colour but consider eventually upgrading to a modern 4 batten type sail, mast and boom, it's not baggy and the pulling force won't move all around like those old windsurfer sails.
Excellent. I commented last time and said get that sail forward, straight front leg and bend the back one... you're bang on. Just keep working on it. That sail does need more downhaul and lower the boom a little. A lower boom will allow you to get the sail further forwards and will help correct the luffing up.
@monkey2244 Thanks heaps! I'm uploading another vid now. I got a new board and it's 10x better.
Crushing it 👊 Nice one! 🤙
Good on ya. Was that down at muddies? I used to windsurf there all the time.
@thomaslowry1910 yeah haha. It's good when the tides right haha
Mate, that is brilliant progress from the last video. Stoked to watch it!
Thanks mate, any idea why it would keep round up into wind? I tilt the mast forward and apply pressure on front foot, any more and I nose dive.. I don't get it.
@@MiddlewayGoodLife It is a bit difficult to say and it may be the limitation of the older equipment. One thing that may help is to but more tension on the foot of the sail (the downhaul). as it looks like there isn't much tension in the lower part of the sail, and also reduce the massive gap between the board and the foot of the sail. I would also lower the boom height a bit so you aren't reaching up quite so high and this will make moving the sail where you need it a bit easier. But from a technique point of view you are doing well and I can see that you are already naturally getting used to steering the board with the sail. Keep going, and keep practicing.
@@IanManuelRoss ok, thanks heaps.
Easy in light wind haha
Your got the hang of that quite quickly, well done.
Good episode your commentary is funny as
I was just kidding about the paragliding stuff. You trumped that with your latest escapade. I agree with all that you say however my experience was that when I went to a place on the Central coast with my 8 grand kids on a day out cleaning, when we went to leave, the rangers claimed that we were removing bush rocks and artifacts and called the cops. It was an interesting event that my grand kids learned a little about how bureaucracy really works and in the end, just like you, I had to pay the mob that didn't collect the rubbish to dump it.
Good shit bro ! Bit of a laugh also 🕷️😆
Thanks mate 😅
Very cool but I miss the live commentary this time. What next, paragliding perhaps?
Next few eps will be fishing with missus, windsurf again, sailboat, maybe surfing, then maybe a glide down hill.
You’re insane ha ha. Awesome
@michaelharris9955 your right haha 😄
It's the combination of sail position combined with foot work that takes time to learn. You got this 👍 watching the wind, sail position foot work all have to be done in concert. It takes time.
Have to pay those dues. Learn to water start ASAP. Windsurfing is simple not easy. You'll get there it's worth the effort. Learn to do a complete 360 before trying to sail. 🤙
Great video. You are so close to getting it. All advice mentioned re the kit is good. In terms of technique. You need to drop your weight, get low, as you transition from uphaul to powering the sail. You drop low, pull the sail forward into the wind and then as the power comes on you twist your shoulders forward and straighten the front leg to push through your front leg. The key points are, drop, sail forward, push front leg. Once you pick up a little speed you can even out pressure and stand up a little. If you watch pro level sailors on tiny boards, look atvthe way the come out or any stall manouver where they lose all speed. Its exactly the same technique.
@@monkey2244 perfect! Thankyou.
Windsurfing is f*~&ing hard! Watching you reminds me of when I started 35 years ago! A couple of things that will help you:- 1) Although the equipment you have is old and difficult to learn on, you can do it! BUT, you need some downhaul on the sail. That is some tension (with rope) from the foot eyelet of the sail down to the bottom of the mast (or mast foot). This will make the sail more stable and keep the power in a more consistent and lower part of the sail. At the moment the sail is lifting up the mast which isn't good. Also, it's hard to tell but keep the dagger board down (The big fin in the middle) all the time when learning. 2) Having said that, if you can find some newer beginner equipment it will be easier. The boards are wider and more stable and you can still find them for very little money. Newer sails are more stable and the boom (the bit you hold onto) attaches more firmly so it doesn't flap around. It's worth asking advice about what is a good or bad buy/find so you don't waste time or money! 3) Find someone who can windsurf to give you some help and quick lessons. 4) Perseverance!!! You clearly have it so don't give up! 5) There are newer windsports that are easier and quicker to learn, but windsurfing is the one that perfectly blends sailing and surfing, once you get to a certain level. And the more difficult something is to learn the better the rewards! Hope this helps and good luck.
@@IanManuelRoss appreciate the advice, thankyou.
1st, please tie the bottom of your sail down. When pulling your sail up, 1st shake off the water, helps alot. Next hold your rope while you stand, using your legs to lift your sail while you pull your rope. It gets easier.
I started on old equipment in the spring of this year (24) I recently got modern equipment and now have so much confidence.
The first time I tried windsurfing I was on a lake - got stood up the first time and it was great, got to the other side of the lake, fell in and just could not get the f-ing thing back up. I spent like an hour trying before I had to just suck it up and walk… 😂
Dude.. waaaay impressed at your perseverance with this. I hate to be the one to point this out, but if you were using modern beginner equipment (10 years old or less) and a gentle steady light breeze to learn in you would be up and windsurfing within a 1-3 tries. That gear must be 40 years old. The old kit is monumentally difficult to learn on. With your surfing and sailing background your would find this so easy with the right gear. Good luck with your journey and happy sailing 🤙
@alanpods2 This is literally the first bit of windsurfing advice I've ever recieved, that is so so helpful, I'm gonna keep an eye out for something a bit more forgiving, I have noticed the youtube vids have super wide boards. Stay tuned!!
@@MiddlewayGoodLife no worries mate, glad to help. You are looking for a beginner setup: board 180 litres volume or more, and a sail around 5.5 m2, that should get you going. You are right though - it is addictive! Good luck!
I wouldn’t be able to crack it ! My coordination and balance is off ! I use and own a land kite buggy propelled by Peter Lynn kite.
Hey man. Love the channel intro, love the yarns, love the enthusiasm. Keep up brother
@michaelharris9955 thanks man, that means alot to me ❤️
Thanks for the laugh. I could feel my a hole pucker watching you, but I knew from your monologue that you had some idea about what you were doing. Contrary to popular practice drugs and/or alcohol don't mix with sailing, or anything worth while, in fact.
Hit it when it's overhead next time ya pussy! 😂
Great to sail a new boat, bugger You have such a big repair job. You learnt a lot from your first sail and capsize so worth the effort. She looks like a weapon when you get her going .
@@brucedyson-smith459 repairs are done. I should have documented it. I used plywood and rubber in a can. Gonna be interesting.
That was hilarious and it reminded me of my first crack at sailing and also in a home made sail boat last summer with many more problems than you had. I particularly agree with your attitude to just get out there and do something. I am 73 and retired now so doing stuff that I never have done is quite exciting. Your narration and apparent non scripted commentary ensures that your story telling is both engrossing and entertaining :had me in stitchs as did your sailing adventure on the leaky sail boat. I have ordered a chest harness for a gopro and I am going to have a go at recording my own misadventures, even if just as evidence for the coroner. Thank you for efforts in recording and posting such entertaining content and I look forward to accompanying you on your future adventures.
@loskop100 Almost made me cry. Thanks so much for your words, super super encouraging. I can not tell you how much I appreciate it.
Makes it hard with the keel sitting on top haha
That looks like hard work ha ha. I’ve got some old 70’s fiberglass kayaks that you actually sit in and they’re sketchy enough in a lake in any wind over about 10 knots
All the best with your repairs. Serious problems!
Keep this videos, good waves 🤙🏽
