    Yeah u glossed over that whole “30 min rest time” thing. assume these videos are for people who don’t work there. you may be leaving critical information out. Otherwise good video. Kohler said to turn off Genset and give it a few minutes before checking oil. You shut it off and pulled dipstick. I know it’s not real time, but these are details people are looking for.

    what if power is back ON after checking the oil? Do I switch the circuit breaker ON or keep it OFF at that point now that power is restored? cannot find that answer ANYWHERE

    • @markgutierrez9295
      @markgutierrez9295 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i would think you would always keep the circuit breaker on, that way if power goes out it automatically flows power back into the house. If power is back on, when you press the "auto" button, the generator should not start up. Also, there should be a transfer switch inside the house by the panel that senses if power is out and selects the source of power. If the circuit breaker is in the off position, if the generator starts up then when power goes out, you would have to walk out to the generator to switch the breaker on. Double check what I'm saying.

    Great tutorial. Is it possible to somehow disable the stupid screen saver that only gives an option of making the temperature bounce around, or making the screen entirely black? I would like to be able to see the blue home screen at all times. The screen saver reminds me of a Windows 95 screen saver from the 1990s and it is very annoying to see the temp bounce all over the place. I don't want to see a black screen either. Because of this I regret getting a Trane - the Lennox S30 thermostat that I have on the other side of the house is much nicer as it shows the temp normally without bouncing.

    • @ddbear8786
      @ddbear8786 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Update to my own question -- I switched to the XL1050 model and that one has the ability to disable the screensaver so the blue Home screen is visible at all times. The XL1050 also is more accurate with its internal temp sensor. The XL1050 is a much better model. Avoid the XL850!

  • @ralphedelbach
    @ralphedelbach 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Since you don't differentiate between the 824 and 850 models when explaining how this thermostat operate,s I assume your instructions apply to either one UNLESS YOU NOTED OTHERWISE. It would be good to make that clear in the beginning of the video and explain the main differences between the two models. Otherwise very helpful. I too find it difficult to program the unit via the phone app and find doing that on my computer far easier...but that is just me obviously.

    So during an outage you’re supposed to do this every 8 hours? I have been only check mine during annual maintenance.

    • @asuarezjd
      @asuarezjd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is common in small engines, especially 2 cycle ones. All engines consume and burn oil but your car has a bigger capacity and the engine does not overheat as much. Is a 3 minute thing, check and see if it needs a tad of oil to bring the level up. And, is good to rest it as they run and sound hysterical. No big deal, you have power and 20 minutes won't spoil the food in the fridge. I live in the north and is never as hot so it can be a bit forgiving but is good to check. No need to do it if the engine is not running of course! I do an annual maintenance which is pretty much check fluids and if the air filter is still good but running only 20 minutes a week, especially when 20 minutes is not long enough to "eat" so much oil. I hope you did not think you have to go out every 8 hours to check on normal days, LOL if the engine is not running then all the oil is there unless you unplugged it.

    • @NoahFlemingConsulting
      @NoahFlemingConsulting 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No@@asuarezjd I get it and makes total sense. For example, one time this year it ran for 2.5 days during ice storms.

    Having to check your oil every 8 hours defeats the purpose of having the generator. This is stupid.

    • @asuarezjd
      @asuarezjd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why is it stupid? your food won't spoil in the fridge for the short time you pause the power. So, you had power for 8 hours, did laundry, watched TV, your freezer and fridge keep the food cold and you can use wifi, but a PAUSE to check if the engine consumed oil (as all small engines do, especially 2 cycle ones) and replace a tad of oil to bring it back to a safe operating level defeats the purpose.....got it!

    • @mikejrexec

      @@asuarezjdyes it is ridiculous. I'm going out in the storm every 8 hours to check on something that is running for days.

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@asuarezjd You're acting as though there are only two options. 1. No power at all 2. standby generator power that you have to shut down every 8 hours to check the oil levels But there's a 3rd option 3. portable generator power, where you can go 100 hours (a little over 4 days) before having to change the oil Option #2 is very expensive, but the selling point is it's no maintenance. * no need to roll out the generator, plug in cord(s) and manually start it * No need to manually switch breakers * No schelping for fuel to run it But if you have to stop the generator every 8 hours, wait 30 minutes, then check the oil level, maybe top it off before being able to run it again, that's an incredibly manual, time consuming process (as well as wasting 30 minutes of your time every 8 hours) that I don't see the point. As I mentioned, portable generators usually go 100 hours, then you change the oil. No topping off in between. Imagine you're a disabled person. You're supposed to go out every 8 hours, turn it off, wait 30 minutes for the oil to cool, then check the oil and maybe top it off? To me, that's unacceptable.

The display panel on the air exchanger in the basement said HP2 when it was 9 degrees F outside. I have electric backup heat strips and it seems they have never been used. Is this normal? I'm in SE Pennsylvania.
