G scale polar express on big layout
มุมมอง 13K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
At a buddy of mines beautiful g scale layout. The sun was interfering with the remote and engine causing it to slow down and sometimes stop. Had to help the engine on a few curves otherwise it jumps the rail and details.
G scale polar express

This is the early version g scale polar express by Lionel. I have purchased extra passenger cars from eBay to make it longer/more realistic. Enjoy

By the way, if you're having trouble with the couplers between the tender and the engine, I've designed a simple replacement hook and loop system that can be screwed in place where the stock couplers are. It's also possible to remove the rear coupler from the tender and add a lightly modified Kadee coupler in there, as well as on the cars (if you're willing to use their self-tapping screws to install the mounting bracket). I have to add that on the tender the coupler will hang a bit lower if you install it onto the bogey, so you need to bend the brake hose out of the way of the track, and the coupler won't tolerate a lot of gradient differences (kind of negates my fix with the engine, huh).
2:49 There are a couple of things that could help with range. If you look on the backside of the remote, in the centre there is a plastic plug over a hole. It's possible to leaver it out with a thin enough tool and some patience. Under neath you'll find the screw that holds everything together. Once you've got the remote open, you could either replace the antenna, which is just screwed onto a contact pad, with a custom-build one, or simply drop a blob of solder on the wire and the contact pad, making contact to the antenna 100% more reliable. And the rest is really just screwing everything back together. While you're in there, you could also clean the contact pads for the buttons and the control knob with some rubbing alcohol. They can get dirty and unreliable with use so they don't trigger correctly anymore.
Hello, what height of battery is it possible to put thanks to this modification?
@@brickamaxime6141 you can do 2-4s packs
@@rc4lifebnsf Okay but what maximum height? If you put it at the highest point
fun
Great video, is that track power or battery operated?
Thank you, my layout is all battery power.
talk about a noisy motor in Lionel's G scale Polar Express. to me this is why I'm opting for a kitbash of two 4-6-0's into a single 2-8-2 Mikado polar Express. less noise and more pulling power.
We’ll considering this is a kids toy, I suspect it to be noisy
@@rc4lifebnsf any way you can kitbash a 2-8-2 Mikado from two 4-6-0's from Bachmann for your polar Express? or even convert Lionel's polar Express passenger cars?
@@gamepad3173 bachmann or any other g scale stuff is way bigger than the Lionel polar express stuff. It would loook too funny
Why is the headlight constantly blinking though?
I’m not sure honestly
I got mine now and I know what it is now. It indicates that the batteries are wearing out. Doesn't mean she can't run quite a bit more, just that there isn't peak power available anzymore. I simply bought rechargeable C batteries in place of a more expensive LiPo with tamiya plug, so I get to be ready much quicker.@@rc4lifebnsf
Nice train. :)
Your layout is fantastic! One of the best I have seen on TH-cam!
Thank you butt it’s not mine. Is my clubs layout. Very big
Nice Railroad
Needs a bit of oil in the axle boxes from the sound of it.
Are those engines Lionchiefs
Yes, they are the dash 8’s
Stop moving so damn much and film the train in spot. I couldn’t even enjoy because you were moving around too much.
Maybe if you watch the whole video you can see the entire train multiple times dumbass
I have that train.
Does Lionel still make these
No
They actually do
@@Douglas-not-Dougie really like the kind that’s compatible with genuine g scale track
@@FreighttrainDaniel1225 idk if that's a question but yes the ones compatible with g scale track

How dit you get all these cars?
eBay
@@rc4lifebnsf You convinced me to get another coach ... my measly four cars isn't going to cut it anymore. 🙂
@@prybarczyk lol, there getting harder to find but they are out there
This implies he has 5 extra locomotives and 5 observation cars
Nope lol
Hi where did you buy this trains and how much
Where’d you get this?
Wow! My engines motor burned out with 5 coaches. Sounds like yours is working overtime. Be careful the motor doesn’t burn out or a gear break
I have a spare engine for parts!.
У вас ширина колеи 45mm., или 33mm.?
W FOR HAVING SO MANY COACHES FOR IT MAKES IT MORE REAL THATS RESPECT
Not to mention that the length of the train is now more movie-accurate. In the movie, the train has @ least 5 cars.
I have this model too, with just the one extra car/carriage. Id like a couple more, but I suspect the motor will burn out with as many as seven. It already sounds like its struggling to pull that many
@@BananaBoy432 I’m actually pulling 10 now and the motor is fine! It will wheel slip before it burns the motor out
Is the locomotive track powered or battery powered?
Battery
Neat layout!
A very nice set, but you might be overwhelming the engine with as many coaches as you have. It’ll struggle around curves with that big of a load. Just keep it to five coaches as a recommendation for next time, but it’s nice to see a Lionel G-Scale train outdoors.
Thank you sir. Yeah it’s a bit too much for it lol. I wanted to make it more realistic like the movie. I’ve added some weight to the engine and it’s doing ok. As well as I run a rechargeable nimh battery in the tender.
@@rc4lifebnsfI can't believe you made the polar Express train to long. And why is your pond dried up at 1:55?
@@kevinsweeney2810i like it this long lol. Not enough water was in it.
@@rc4lifebnsf you need to put more water in it. Eh?
Whered u get that cage
What transmittor are you using in this buggy
Man i wish they had toys like that when i was younger
Massive! Very cool!
Is there any way to make a slash a solid rear axle without cutting it in half
THIS IS THE COOLEST TRAIN VIDEO BY A VERY COOL TRAIN ENTHUSIAST!! 🚃🚅🚈🚂
Terrible

Hi I used to build ship with IR receiver but the range was deadly short so I bought Sbrick and now I can control 4 independent functions with a range of up to 15 metres! It's awesome and it would come very handy for you too. I'm gonna build a ship over this weekend and likely upload a video on sunday so you can check it out
Watched some of your update video. Just commenting to let you know the hard arm won't help you keep from breaking the car. The hard arms are more stiff, and they are lighter. They are not stronger, hard means brittle, the soft arm will absorb hits better. Running one hard and one soft will give you funky handling issues. Depending on your sag, or ride height, and droop, more preload doesn't necessarily help with landing from jumps. Get a harder spring if need be. You could also run a piston with smaller holes, or thicker oil in the shocks. The pistons or shock oil will increase damping, but also slow rebound. Your pre cut wing is also a huge air brake. There is a line on the back of the wing, its a guide to let you know how much to cut. You can run it full size but I don't think you need that much down force. That's hurting you on the straights.
I use 6v fans an have no issues
An I thought about buying one of them
Dude did you cut those tires on the truck next to the one the vid is about.
2rsracing 239 yeah i cut some proline masher 2.8’s and made my own mud tires
Nice vid I actualy try it and it work
What bumper is that holding the tires?
put a change transmission to a metal servo and see what happens to this thing.😊
Kingsley D. Cornell what?
My stock proboat impulse 9 is faster than that. Not trying to be mean. Just honest.
william stallings well the problem is the motor spins so fast, the propeller cavitates therefore it cant go faster. It creates an air bubble around the propeller so it cant go any faster
Big man
I was wondering if that was happening. Mine does the same thing.
Did you get it trimed? In the Vid it's pulsing like ....
Geistertoehle the prop is cavitating
Really nice, can you make a track video?😊😎🤔
kristoffers rc channel sure will
just picked up 2 of these. starting to trick them out. designed battery trays bigger servo upgrade etc..check them out if get a chance..its a fun truck for the price. ITs going to be a fun build ;-)
ThatsMyRc yes indeed. But the bad thing is they slower than I thought
Have you ran it on a 2s lipo.. it’s pretty quick for what it is on that.. I haven’t tried 3s yet . I just got them less than 24hrs ago not much time on them besides the bench lol
ThatsMyRc even when i made mine brushless on 2s it was slow. I say put an axial scx10 trans in it
Any video of it running yet? I wanna see how fast it goes with your mods.
Karma Shift sold it
Hey nice video, I would reccomend trimming your throttle, It'll make crawling easier
Jacob Walker thx, lower?
Sweet mudding buddy. I like that👍👍
Kenny mph Melanko thanks man, i got new axles on her now
Ar60 axles
He’s still better than Lars.
