Birding Kansas (East to West) 4th-11th November 2023 (Ep.11)
Great to be finally putting this episode out there into the birding universe as was filmed last November, and is the reason we've been off air for a few months now. Just in case you're wondering! It was a busy period, preparing for and then running this trip, so our usual reporting from our local sites October-December 2023 were disrupted, but promise to get working on a summary for this period ASAP, so to get us up to date. Who knew that making these short films would take up so much time! Anyway, I got the chance to 'guide' this amazing trip to the prairies and wetlands of Kansas for Ventures Birding, and thought I'd make this short film despite the topic not really being in tune with our local recording remit. This film is meant to give you a taste of some of the amazing species and places we encountered if you've never been. The draw at this time in late fall on the Central Flyway is the mass movement of Arctic breeding cranes, wildfowl and shorebirds. Plus the many icterids and raptors make for some exciting fall birding. In all, we spotted 122 species which included 18 species of sparrow! Highly recommend visiting Kansas in late fall, a truly magical experience :0)

Ash-throated Flycatcher, Guilford County Farm, North Carolina (11/26/2023)
มุมมอง 95ปีที่แล้ว
An Ash-throated Flycatcher was found at the Guilford County Farm on the 24th November, 2023. A great find, as this western species should be in Mexico at this time of the year, not in North Carolina.! We went down to see it on the 26th, a couple of days after its discovery, and had great views of the bird foraging along a line a eastern cedars. This well watched local eBird hotspot is definitel...

Concentrating birding effort upon four wetland sites which had good areas of mud, he manages to find 18 shorebird species which included Pectoral and Baird's Sandpipers, Lesser Yellowlegs and Wilson's Phalarope. August in the Piedmont was exceptionally good for various species of shorebirds an...
(Ep8) Overland expedition to the boreal north: wood warblers, whale watching and rocky shore ecology
มุมมอง 440ปีที่แล้ว
The entire station heads off on a month long expedition (AKA our family holiday), to the boreal north to connect with the bird species that pass through Hillsborough on passage migration each spring and fall. Along the way we explored parts of Maine, New Brunswick and Quebec. We spotted friends and family and some great warblers, flycatchers, trushes, shorebirds, and raptors too!

Pelagic birding off Cape Hatteras aboard the Stormy Petrel II (Ep 6).
มุมมอง 797ปีที่แล้ว
Mike takes a break from his local bird monitoring around Hillsborough and travels the 281 miles to Cape Hatteras for a days pelagic birding aboard the Stormy Petrel II (June 10th, 2023). Winds were light that day, about 10 mph from the north-west, so was relatively quiet. However, we still managed to film Black-capped Petrel, Band-rumped Storm Petrel, Wilson's Storm Petrel and Great Shearwater....

Very nice!
Beautiful video.
A bit bouncy out there? How do you get a decent photo in that?
You doing the same thing that I'm doing birding and bikepacking :)
