Pre-War Troubles with the M1 Garand | (5-Digit SA CMP Field Grade)
The legendary M1 .30 Caliber Rifle has humble beginnings. No legend is born without flaws, and the M1 Garand underwent a number of substantial redesigns and modifications to address issues as they were discovered.
Note of Clarification (7th Round Stoppage): The affected receiver rib is on the left side, but counterintuitively it induces malfunctions with cartridges on the right side. As I understand it, that rib helps guide the nose of cartridges from the right-side as they turn to enter the chamber. Without it, the cartridge can miss the chamber and cause a failure to feed.
I goofed that up while filming and am fixing it now as best as I can (sorry). I expect additional confusion because it is misquoted elsewhere on the internet that the right-hand FTFs were caused by the right side receiver rib. But as you can clearly see it is the front left-side receiver rib that was affected and repaired. Then the Garand Collectors Association (GCA) demonstrated with an original un-repaired early M1 that the malfunction occurs on the right-side.

Final Note: Yes, this is the same Turkish return M1 that had the note in it (see previous video th-cam.com/video/UXqPOb4nCIk/w-d-xo.html). It's the Garand that keeps on giving.

Easy Fix for M1 Timing (Premature Bolt Release)
มุมมอง 12K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The easiest way to (usually) fix the timing in your M1. My experience has been that recent CMP M1s release the bolt prematurely, making loading more difficult than it should be. This is an easy fix that anyone can do (check the clip latch spring while you're at it too). Longtime M1 owners likely know this already, but maybe this will help at least one new M1 owner somewhere. A good resource: ww...
A Soldier's Note I Found In My M1 Garand (CMP Field Grade)
มุมมอง 186K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A quick look at a hand-written note, stuffed in the buttstock of an M1. Admittedly not Hollywood dramatic in its content, but real life rarely is. Some however might find it more relatable, more human, that way. What have you found stuffed inside an old milsurp?
