Nice but a bit thin. I feel like oddly less dense o-rings did kind of push the board to err more on that end of the sound spectrum, but DCX is also a very different ABS compound than the usual Keykobo or GMK, I suppose. I did try a bunch of o-rings myself but I always ended up going back to the stock 50a red one... poor Graveshift 30a and 40a rings... sitting alone in my drawers, not doing anything...

@@gable1997ye I built mine with Meteor Oranges on CF, but I desoldered to lube the switches. Sadly the spacebar is kinda thunky and weird bc I tried to straighten my banana bar and it went a bit poorly, but would be fun to jazz the board up sometime and desolder, then do a final build!
@@offbrandbiscuit Ooh, pls do a sound test with those switches! I just bought myself a CF plate too and i like it more than alu for sure. Im testing out switches at the moment and do a final solder build as well. haha Cheers mate

Unfortunately no. I sold the PBTfans before Ciel arrived.

I just completed a similar build but with keychron q1 pro. I noticed it sounded quite thin and hollow, how did you get yours to sound so clacky?
I only did a force break mod and used an aluminum plate, not the stock plate which is steel.
@@gable1997 I bought an aluminum plate from the keychron store and used it
I didnt place gaskets on the side of the spacebar. For the thinness, adding polyfill or a thin poron foam might help. I also tightened the screws a bit for the sound not "escape" because of the gap created by the tape from the force break mod.

Also, do you know how to change the key layout by using VIA, cause my VIA keep showing ''searching for devices''. I already import the .json file, but didn’t work.

Thank you for the video!! I’m planning on building a q1 pro with Alu plate and mx blacks as well. The force break mods seems to do wonders and I am definitely doing a foamless build. I really like the clackiness of mx blacks as of late. Do you think that the mx blacks are worth filming?
I just know you'll enjoy that build you got there. And yes, imo, they need filming. 0.15mm PC films is my preference!
@@gable1997 thanks good to know, I’m also considering mx browns as well because my current build is a gmk67 with tecsee purple pandas (Only plate foam). Ive gotten so used to heavy tactiles that I think something in the middle would be amazing. Cherry definitely has some magic going on with their clacks. I bought both switches to try out.

YO. Idk how active you are but I love how you be responding to these comments. I have this exact desire, to build basically this exactly but the Q5 since it is the best layout I’ve found. But I’m big on Taeha stuff, and I notice these $500 boards come with no foam. I’ve been dying to see, how do these boards operate with no foam + force break? You’re the only I’ve found so far - I notice you picked up Alu plate. Keychron now sells plates for $15ish each… tempted to just snag a Q5 + all the plates and mess around ‘til it sounds smack like this!! Thoughts?? Thanks for your work & content!
The Q series are great for their price man. No frills, all business type of products. Force break mod is indeed a must however i would advice to add thin sheets of polyfill as they would eliminate the thinness of the alphas. Dont add too much polyfill tho, less is more. Regarding the plates, that would depend on your sound preference really and i cant advice you on that. The steel plate(heavy af) makes the alphas quiet, so i bought the alu plate. I believe the pc and fr4 would make them sound a bit deeper. Hope this helps man.

@@gable1997 just picked up my Q5 from a dude from OfferUp. Actually came with Alu plate and Keychron BOW for $160 total, not bad. (I don’t actually want the keychron BOW, will try to sell). Stoked to build it soon. How did you do your force break?
@@bradyvilhauer4445 Q5 and keycaps for 160?Not bad! I placed the tape at the bottom half of the case and both sides the screw holes. If you plan to use masking tape, I would suggest to double it. However, I am using electrical tape and I only applied it once.

It's quite surprising that it doesn't sound hollow. I'm currently using HG mx blacks on my Q1 build which doesn't have any foam, execpt the stock porous plate foam between the plate and pcb. I've also done the force break mod on my unit, but despite all of this, it still sounds extremely hollow and thin. Which tape specifically did you use to do the force break mod, and how many layers did you apply? Also just one more thing, did you have plate foam installed during the sound test? Thank you in advance.
It sounds hollow in actual. However, im willing to compromise that tolerable hollow sound to the clackiness of the build. The sound when adding poron foam and polyfill just isnt for me. Using 1 layer of electrical tape for the force break mod. No foams for this build.

On the same boat except using akko mod 006. Can't seem to get the same sound signature with cherry mx black hgs. Did not except the Q3 to sound this well with hgs!
Yooo force break mod is goat. That sound was so good, can't expect that came out from keychron board

The scratch is the HG's character. As for the ping, just add case foam and youre good to go
Really great job on this board. That frankenswitch is actaully quite nice. Keeps the same kind of tone of the creams but removes a lot of the scratch because of the jwk molds.Thinking about getting this board now XD
