UnLeading
มุมมอง 3914 วันที่ผ่านมา
This work has been inspired by Dr. Kevin Kumashiro who challenges us to question common sense assumptions of schooling, to acknowledge the partiality of knowledge, and to be in the practice of unlearning as we learn and unteaching as we teach. The UnLeading Project makes two assumptions: Leadership exists in all spaces, and we are all leaders. If you are a leader or aspiring leader, or if you a...

By far, the worst teacher I ever had. I doubt no practical advice on teaching has ever left her mouth. At least that was the case in the class I was forced to take with her.

I had this woman as my methods teacher at Binghamton University in 1990. A class on how to be a middle school and high school English teacher. She knew nothing about teaching in a middle school or a high school. But she said “pedagogy” about a million times that semester. The class was so bad my forearms used to get numb during it. Her judgement was so bad, it was like you had a lieutenant and in the middle of a battle he told you that the way to win this battle was to run directly at the enemy machine guns. It’s 31 years later, and I’m still upset that this woman sent us out into classrooms with no practical advice. I’m sure I was the only one in the class who made it to year 30 of teaching. I’m sure whatever she’s doing now she’s just faking it like she did at Binghamton University. Glad you gave her an award for that. Yeah, I should just let this go, but if you are wondering why the quality of education offered in high schools today is a disaster, you can thank her for contributing to that disaster. She was also a lousy communist. Geez…grow up for Christ’s sake. It was 1990, not 1947 where I could understand people getting duped by ideas like that. Well, who knows, maybe she became a better teacher over the years…

Sir, I agree with you 100%. But the catch is most if not all communities DON'T WANT THE HOMELESS AROUND! I live in Delavan, WI-USA. A few years ago some people tried to get an apartment building built here in Delavan for the homeless. The people of the City of Delavan didn't want anything to do with it. The good people of the City of Delavan didn't want the homeless people of Delavan to be seen. Cost has nothing to do with it. I have been homeless several times myself and so has my roommate/boyfriend, Tim. Most homeless people don't want to homeless. There are a few that do choose to live that way. But most, like Tim and I don't enjoy it. We have the great fortune of having an apartment now. And we are living proof that you're right. We wish there would be more people in this world like you.

Because written records of early African-Canadian settlements are limited; these new narratives should be made easily accessible in history textbooks or other board of education resources. Students today do not imagine a Black person when they think of a Canadian pioneer. It is true that the teachings on early Black experiences in Canada have been largely relegated to the refugee/slave experience. I applaud Dr. Norquay's research and her intent to expand this narrative.
