I'm surprised no one has mentioned the valves disintegrating and destroying the engine? They finally fixed it in the later years Grizzo. No moto guzzi for me.
@@mkoehler222 this was only a problem on the first generation of 1200 which is not my case so that’s why I haven’t mentioned it.
@TYPE1media Thanks, I did think about buying one years ago but ended up with an Indian FTR. Still have it after 5 years and 25k miles with no issues. Good luck with yours.
I have a Stelvio which has the same engine and it seized up on the M1 at 21,000 miles. It was the plastic oil pump gear which became loose on its metal center, twisted and stripped its teeth. I didn't notice the warning on the screen as it was early morning with low sun and the screen is almost impossible to see in those conditions. It cost me nearly £1000 for a used crankshaft from Germany plus a few gaskets and seals, and a new clutch while the engine was out, I did the work myself. This destroyed my faith in Guzzis but the repairs worked and 12,000 miles on I still have the bike as I love it and can't find anything I want to change it for. It took a year for me to stop looking for dire warnings on the display every 10 seconds, now I just ride and enjoy it. It was interesting to hear about the mess in the throttle bodies as I have had poor fueling recently, injector cleaner did not help and its erratic, some days are good, some bad but it usually clears after aboput 15 minutes. Maybe I need a throttle body strip. Thanks for a most informative and helpful video. Mark, UK.
@@markclark7273 hey mark! Glad you got it sorted.. now that I think about it I did replace the plastic oil pump gear too! I’m now on the lookout for the new Stelvio.. doing a lot of touring so it would make sense for me to move into the Adventure market! Many happy Guzzi miles
I am not sure about the new Stelvio, I don't think the Mandello engine suits an adventure bike but i do need to book myself in with my dealer for a test ride at some point. More than about 90bhp is too much and makes the bike a handful to ride and not so good at town speeds, the old Stelvio is borderline in this area.
I'd did that trip clockwise starting from Ullapool in 1974.. Unforgettable.. Trivia factoid: Durness was where young John Lennon (whatever happened to him?) used to spend his school holidays with some relatives he had there.
I'm seeing an 2014 Griso with 60000km ( about 40k miles), price is alright, still negotiable. Previous owner does the oil changes and small jobs, but nothing too extensive as maintenance, I doubt the valves are adjusted. Is the bike at the end of its life? what major maintenance should I plan for? or I should simply avoid it and look for one with less mileage? Thanks
I’ve seen Griso’s with more than 100k miles.. the engines are solid, just make sure the distribution is the ‘rollerised’ one and not the first one that came out, if you do a bit of research about it you’ll see what I mean. Apart from that do a valve adjustment and a Full extensive service including gearbox and shaft oil, filters and spark plugs. You’ll have many more happy miles to enjoy. Only reason mine has had bits and bobs to do is because I treated her harshly and I messed with it myself.
@@TYPE1media test ride it yesterday. Engine sounds healthy. hydraulic clutch lever feels good. But my left foot couldn't feel anything when I'm changing gears (unlike the heavy clunk I hear when I rode the V7iii, it even went to a false "1" once (N light is off, but it's actually still in Neutral). should I worry about it? or is that something normal with Griso. thanks
@@papercut1987 going into 1st it makes a nice clunk, which is classic moto Guzzi, but I have no false neutral so I would investigate that. The other gears have a nice click going in but you need to make sure you stay with the pedal all the way to the end for slightly longer than you’re used to maybe as sometimes it takes a bit to go in, mine sometimes if you don’t push 3rd or 4th in all the way when you open the throttle it pulls down one gear.
Two things about Muraglione🙂 1 try to stay always on your side, 2 you are pushing .. so and so, but is a good thing because you dont know the road👍🏍️

you are riding in 1 gear too low all the time
@@MrNextdoorscat I think you don’t know much about twin cylinder engines if you say that. Top torque is at 5000rpm on this particular one. The ideal ‘sport’ riding range is 3.5k rpm and 7k ideally always around 5k when coasting in corner exits for having max torque when pulling away.
@@TYPE1media yes , i`ve owned a few v twins in amog the 200 plus bikes i`ve had
@@MrNextdoorscat alright boss 😁
Just curious why you would pick a Suzuki Vstrom for a touring bike where you could also chose another guzzi like the Norge or Stelvio 1200. Could you clarify?
How much did it cost you, the clutch repair i mean.
I've just seen this review 3 years late. Loved the video footage onnthe Stelvio Pass. I think my Aprilia there around 2018. I've always loved the Griso but never got around to buying one. The small tank scares me. I sold the Falco a while back. I now have a 650 VStrom and a Moto Guzzi Le Mans IV. Love them both for different reasons. There's something glorious about the primitive tech on carburetted Guzzis. Love them. Thanks for the video. You have a new subscriber.
Thank you! I just refurbished mine and wrapped it in emerald green.. still loving her to bits, the small tank wasn’t a big issue for me I’ve done loads of touring and even the NC500 in the highlands without ever running out of juice. The Griso 1200 is fuel injected doesn’t have carbs 😄 thanks for the sub
That LMIV wasn't primitive when new. Underappreciated! Enjoy
@@TYPE1media would love to see the new scheme. KC34 seems to have dropped many parts from their offering for GRiSO.
@@TioKimo yeah unfortunately I don’t think they do much custom parts anymore, they also don’t ship abroad.

I have a V7 850 Special (Not a 1200 Griso.) but I can completely agree with you on your comments. The air filter thing is a good one. A stock air filter flows plenty of air and only cost a few pounds, "When you need to change it." I've just checked in there on my bike as it is a year old and there is NO DUST whatsoever! The oil levels on most Moto Guzzi are very critical and "less is better" than too much. The simple design of these engines is their strength and gives them good reliability.
Loud, angry, roaming, purring, screaming. What a bike. Thanks for showing the world what a moto guzzi griso can be
Got my Griso 1200SE! Picking it up soon 🎉🎉🎉
You throttle body full of crap coz the 1200 has a fuel evaporation canister which feeds crap back in... you can remove it.. the 1100 doesn't have that. The k&n filter is great Owned my 2008 1100 for 14 years.. and I'm still in love with it... The toughest most robust bike ever made.... way better and more reliability than any BMW ever made... Only a few minor issues
Very informative ! Thank you ! Subbed in .
Thank you.. it’s now 8 years of Guzzi Griso, still loving it
My tents in ITALICS haha 😂. Liked and subscribed.. Got the tent. Got the cooker. Got the cameras.. GOT 100 BUNGEE CORDS.. NC500 here we come.. 👍 😁 😂❤❤💯🤓🙏🙏👌
Is this stock or adjusted?
Not stock
Paper filters cannot be bettered these K&N things are a scam.
"Paper filters cannot be bettered". If you are looking for maximum dirt filtration and engine longevity, stick ONLY to paper element. All other filters are not filtering all it should. I had K&N air filters on different vehicles for 20 years and saw all the crap that made it past the "filter" and into the ducting before the throttle body. Not worth it. 💩👎
Hi. Where did you buy the license plate mount for the Griso?
Hey there.. it’s from KC34
I don’t own a Griso, but I certainly would like to. Thank you for your video, it hasn’t altered my opinion on the Griso and eventually I will purchase one. I own a Kawasaki 500 Mach 3 H1A triple so I love and appreciate motorcycles that are different, to me being outside normal is very appealing. Warmest regards from New Zealand
Are they MPH on your speed?
You are very courteous rider, a man after my own heart.
Thank you for the viedeo, I just bought used a 1100 Griso and I can't wait to pick it up next week.
You won’t regret it 😁
Lol,parts allover the flor, realy good way to do it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for your video. What brand/make was the air filter?
Pipercross
Pipercross
@@TYPE1media thanks. I will avoid putting this brand into my V85TT 😀
Its seems ridiculous to me you speak if all this maintenance and changes that you do, then say if you do this its a reliable good bike. Thsts an oxymoron surely?..compare this to any japanesel bike, it sounds like a nightmare..im not trying to be mean ..but you have after this put me off these machines..perhaps sadly,.. completely.
If you watched properly and be knowledgable about Guzzi you will know that the only reason I had to do all the maintenance is because I’ve messed with it myself. As said in the video, keep the bike stock, do the regular services and you’ll have 0 problems. Enjoy
Never saw a video of a guzzi that way! Did you tune your machine ? Or is it all stock except that exhaust 😅
I flashed the ECU with a different map to run on open pipe.. I have a video called riding it like I stole it if you want more ‘sporty’ riding.. that one is on the stock exhaust due to Italian police being hotter on non standard exhausts.
How tall are you?
porca troia che bestia, complimenti è bellissima!
Generally those type of air filters require oil on them to catch fine particulates. I don’t know the make of the one you’re holding but a K&N which is similar looking to yours, needs to be cleaned and oiled often. Your valves usually take a beating when dirt is introduced into the engine.
That’s what I thought.. thank you for clarifying that for everyone else 😁
@@TYPE1media I should have stated I found my way to your video because I found a Griso in my area for sale with low km and a good price. I appreciate your video, I might just have to go see this bike in person. Thank you.
@@torkd14 I hope you will get it mate! Cracking bike as said in the video ✌🏼
that sounds good... i need to get a griso, does the audace sound like this too?
All Guzzi’s if you change the exhaust 😁
That Griso of yours sounds like it means business.. Very envious. I've yet to see one. I live at the western end of the Pyrenees and it would be ideal for blatting up those mountain passes. Would you say there would be enough room for a 6'2" rider? (Looks like Henley?)
What exhaust are you running on this Griso?
Up
I discovered over 20 years ago these garbage fictional hi flow air filter that let dirt into your engine. Dynoed a ferrari 308 qv 20 minutes apart, lost 5 bhp on a K&N. I always say go on a diet first, loose 5kg body weight, cheaper and healthier than a junk filter if your qualifying for grid position in a race its a different story.
Yeah.. I learned that lesson as well! Thank you for your comment 🙂 what do you ride now?

Yeah! Absolutely a beast of a machine! Thanks for your comment mate 🙂
Thanks for sharing your experience with the bike. Did you have to grease the rear suspension bearings at the pivot points? I have heard the factory did not grease those bearings.
No worries..I never greased the rear suspension if I’m totally honest, not had any issues with it
Nice review
Thank you!
Nice riding there mate! I'm feeling to bet that the front of the motorcycle is really the thing that gives you the feeling to chase after because I see you dropping gears for the grunt, even though this motorcycle can actually tolerate and perform on high gears with low speed . I had the opportunity to get a griso but found an Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 for cheaper and with ABS and traction control, so I opted for that instead. However I feel in my later years I'd go looking for the griso regardless.....
Thank you mate! I like the Dorsoduro 🙂. Yeah the Griso has lot of torque at lower rpm’s too but it’s around 5000 that it’s really explosive so when I ride in ‘sport’ mode I’m always after that torque peak

THat's a very nice series of joined up bends! Bit of UK road surface here and there though, eh? I'd have been riding it very differently on my T3 Cali (a very different bike), with a lot fewer gear changes and "Days Like These" playing on the headset ((o; Tech ask: you have a lav mic from the Zoom recorder picking up exhaust noise?
Yeah road surface was surprisingly less smooth than I remembered it been 3 years ago. I love the Cali.. very nice bike Barry! To be honest I’ve been very lazy with the recording and I only had the zoom recorder inside my tank bag and did a bit of Equalising in Post.
