Communication is very important in this field, especially when you have a learner who is struggling with certain challenges. It is always good to talk with your supervisor or any of the behavioural therapists working with the learner. I like how this video taught me so much more about HP cards and what each one represents.
Great video! Setting realistic and socially significant targets for learners is so important in the teaching and therapy process. I never knew exactly how much thought and preparation went into setting these targets using these HP cards, which on the surface, looked so simple. Looking forward to learning more!
Hello, my daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD mild form, has aggresion, and her social engagement and language is delayed. She gets along with people, makes new friends but has trouble maintaining them as she is not amenable to change in routine/ things she wants to do. She is undergoing aba therapy and special education. Her special educator sometimes holds her from behind to restrain her, when she has shown aggression at school or home. She also threatens her saying she ll cut her fingers among other things.. it has worked, her behaviour in school and home have improved immensely, but is this kind of scare tactics not going to impair her self esteem and confidence. Is aba therapy supposed to work like this. Teamwork and communication is so important in this field and I like how it was presented here in the video. ABA therapy may seem like a lot of work but it's also so structured and technological that as long as you are doing what you are supposed to do and as long as you are communicating with your team at all times, everything should run smoothly
I like it when she said that learners' success are measured differently. This proves how imporant it i to individualize the way you teach and the way you build that instructional control towards the learner. Everything in this video explained everything that I've been witnessing in the past few weeks since my placement started and it's amazing how simple yet complex ITT and NET together are.
It’s much easier to understand how Intensive Trial Training (ITT) benefits both learners and RBTs. This video helped me get a better understanding of how it should be worked with the learner and how to take control with it without making it aversive for the learner.
This video is incredibly useful for helping better understand how to keep instructional control over learners while also being able to teach new skills that are socially significant for them. Though ITT is a more structured teaching setting than NET, with clear and set instructions, it is still first and foremost designed to be an engaging experience for learners. So much of teaching in this manner is understanding what motivates the learner, and keeping a variable schedule of reinforcement to keep them engaged in the programs. A great lesson all around, and I hope to use some of this in the future!
Thanks for this awesome advice I'm therapist and i face this problem when i get observed by my head or another one else, i went to be more serious like a robot But that's really wrong, we should treat like no one is here and going on
I appreciate how you highlighted the importance of knowing that verbal behaviour isn't merely vocals, as long as there is a communication and understanding between a speaker and a listener. Thank you for the little quiz at the end, it challenged my fluency in those terms!
I found this video incredibly helpful! The step-by-step breakdown makes each training technique easy to follow and apply. It’s clear how much thought goes into building these foundational skills, which is so important for supporting lasting progress.
This video helped me understand many different ways we all communicate using various verbal behaviours. I enjoyed how you took the time to explain how each verbal operant is different from the others. I also liked the quiz and games; they made the learning experience fun!
Verbal behaviour is very complex, and we must better understand the function of behaviours to better understand learners that may otherwise struggle with language. Of the various verbal domains, they are all functionally independent of one another, as some learners may excel in one domain but struggle with another. I really like how this video explains the various domains in a way that I can easily understand in the field, great stuff!
Natural environment teaching (NET) is proven to be extremely effective in allowing RBTs to naturally embed a learner's targets into the play experience in ways that extend the play episode and encourage the innovation of play materials to sustain the learner's attention. Especially for younger learners who may not be able to sustain attention for substantial periods, the NET method ensures that the play follows the child's lead and teaches skills directly related to the materials the learner is interested in. Since NET is not limited to occurring in one type of setting, the skills children learn through NET can often be applied across various situations and contexts, encouraging stronger levels of independence and adaptability in everyday life.
It was helpful to know that how the clear instructions and consistent reinforcement schedules can significantly improve learning outcomes.
I am amazed by how effective and compassionate NET is towards each unique learner. NET provides the autonomy to the learners who have different skill sets, comfort and pace. NET does not make learners feel intimidated and overwhelmed, which tend to occur to some individuals with autism. Using NET, learning isn't merely an obligation to both the therapist and the learner, its natural and play-based approach makes the overall experience of learning a shared passion for both parties.
Discrete Trial Training is such an effective approach for building essential skills in kids. The use of the ABC method (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence) and clear, positive reinforcement really shows how impactful this method can be for children’s communication and learning. Thanks for the insight!
I really love how NET is such a natural teaching approach. It's not restricted to just table work, and it allows the child to choose the environment in which they’d like to learn, while also enabling the child and the behavioural therapist to engage and have fun together.
I appreciate how well laid out the instructions are. When working with this demographic, it is important that we provide the best service possible to ensure that our clients are successful long term. Great work!
NET (Natural Environment Teaching) is a more unstructured method of teaching, utilizing play to keep learners engaged. Creating an atmosphere for a learner that is more relaxed, and most importantly more fun will help maintain their enthusiasm and for the RBT to maintain stimulus control for whatever programs they may be doing. I especially like this method of teaching with younger learners as keeping stimulus control and their interest can be particularly difficult in more structured environments. By incorporating play into teaching via the NET environment, learners can achieve their learning goals more easily in a proactive environment that emphasizes their own strengths and engagement above all else. Thanks for the video!
Really appreciated how this video broke down the different types of verbal behavior! It was interesting to see how each domain, like mand for requests and tact for labeling, has its own role in communication. The real-life examples made it so much easier to understand, especially for how kids learn language. Some of the domains are pretty similar, so keeping them straight was a bit tricky, but this video definitely helped clarify things.
It is good to know how to best conduct oneself during one-on-one training with a client. Being a step-by-step process (which is modeled in the discrete trial’s ABC’s Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence), I appreciated how well laid out the video was. This method of teaching goes at a quick pace in order to maintain the learners attention, which is great for aiding clients who are not fully accustomed to a learning environment. I especially liked the use of low and high probability cards, which makes for an excellent teaching aid. All in all, great video!
My boy is also non verbal , he makes sounds when he is happy and so but no words never
Salam sister, i have a son almost 3y old and he has allot of autistic symptoms , i need to go to a special doctor to confirm the autism
I valued the emphasis on developing inspiring topics to aid in the development of new skills. A useful illustration of how NET activities may make learning fun and meaningful for the student.
Natural Environment Teaching emphasizes the effectiveness of using play as a tool to keep learners engaged while addressing their individual goals. Creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere is essential for maintaining attention and fostering enthusiasm, which greatly enhances learning. The balance between NET and more structured approaches is particularly valuable as learners progress. NET not only supports skill generalization but also encourages creativity in how therapists interact with clients. I appreciate the thorough insights on implementing NET strategies effectively!
There are many intricacies behind verbal behavior. It is good to understand how in which sound is produced by identifying the various physical aspects of the human body that is capable of emitting noise, Skinner’s theory on developmental milestones of the human condition in relation to vocal speech patterns, and finally the eight vocal domains and its application in relation to behavioral therapy. Great video!
I love how NET utilizes modalities such as play to implement learning targets while keeping the child motivated and engaged. It is important to sustain their attention and create an environment that presents itself to the learner as one that isn’t demanding. Clients should feel enthusiastic when being with the behavioral therapists. It is good to know as a general rule of thumb that NET should be utilized seventy to eighty percent with beginner learners. While with intermediate learners, NET should be implemented fifty percent of the time, with the other fifty percent of time allocated being spent on ITT (Intensive Table Teaching). All in all, great video!

Salam alaykum, mashallah sister. Recently I got diagnosed with autism and ADHD. In my opinion I notice a little doubt about it for myself because with the diagnoses I had to answer these questions while now I think only Allah knows the answer to those questions. What is autism actually it seems that opinions differ.
Absolutely. We can only try and do what we can and Allah will support us in that process InshaAllah

This is a very important question. It’s always best not to share any identifying information such as the clients name, address and so on.
