    Cross knot is Chinese?

      🧐 Well… I do have a short on the Cross Knot (📺 th-cam.com/users/shortsNSoaA8AJfkE ), but it looks a bit different. In general, there are so many knots in the world, and quite often they look incredibly similar, with only a tiny detail setting them apart. Plus, the same knot can go by several names. It’s like trying to remember all the characters in a soap opera! 😉

      Thank you for your comment! Actually, the knot you’re referring to has several names, including Cow Hitch, Girth Hitch, Lark’s Head, Ring Hitch, and more, as noted in the Ashley Book of Knots #1673 (and #5, #56, #59, #244, #310, #1184, #1694, #1698, #1700, #1802, #2163, #2164, #2168, #2175, #3317). These terms describe the same knot formation, even if they are tied slightly differently depending on the context (like a lanyard, a continuous strap, or a spliced eye). I hope this clarifies any confusion, and I’m always open to more discussion about knots!

    Wierd way, and wierd result. That’s the way you can find in “animated knots” but I’ve NEVER seen anyone do in that way. When you do this knot in the usual fashion, you DON’T have the live end OUT of the loops and you DO have the dead ends whitin the loops. So, your knot is, yes, topologically equivalent to the blood knot but it’s very likely to have different performance - in addiction to being uglier.

    • @knotmaker60
      @knotmaker60 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting opinion… The video shows one of the many ways to tie one of the forms of a Blood Knot. And they’re all valid. I have a short showing another way to tie a different form of this knot; you can check it out.

    • @ZannaZabriskie
      @ZannaZabriskie 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@knotmaker60 OK, I saw your shorts. Very good shorts, very clear, I will follow you. The blood knot is the one you call "snake knot". All three of these knots: "your" blood knot, "your" snake knot, and the common blood knot are topologically equivalent. But "your" snake knot has the same final form (= same performance) of the common blood knot - although I must add that I have never seen anyone get the blood knot that way: the blood knot is a very common knot in fishing, I have not been an angler for many decades but I think it would be impossible to tie the knot that way with a fishing line. In addition, the standard way to make the blood knot is a very simple way.

      This is a misleading impression. The peasant’s knot doesn’t tighten too much and is quite easy to untie after the load is removed. You just need to move and slide down the red loop that encircles the two working (short) ends.

      Hello! Your imagination is absolutely wonderful. This is one of the eleven basic knots of traditional Chinese knotting, a craft which began in the Tang and Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) in China. The Chinese and Japanese names for this knot are based on the shape of the ideogram for the number ten, which is in the shape of a cross that appears on one face (and a square on the other face). The Ashley Book of Knots, first published in 1944, says: "A decorative Chinese Loop. This is commonly employed as a Lanyard Knot. It is handsome and secure." In recent years, it has become popular with members of the Scout and Guide movements for tying their neckerchieves instead of using a woggle.

      Usage of the Academic Knot. In maritime affairs - for temporarily binding together the ends of two ropes under strong tension. In fishing - for temporarily binding together the ends of two fishing lines. In surgery - for closing an incision and temporarily binding together the ends of suture material. But you can also use it as a decorative knot, of course.
