    Thank you for the video! I'm just looking at buying the 2022/2023 Wing Drifter 56L at my local shop. Do you know of anyone using it with Armstrong foils? You mentioned that the board has short mast tracks, and Armstrong masts do like to sit forward in the tracks, so I worry about compatibility...

    • @WingsurferNL
      @WingsurferNL 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      The new one has long mast tracks, far forward aswell. Should be good! But yes, the 22/23 model wouldn't be a good match for Armtstrong. Then again, I dont know all models from Armstrong. I do know someone just got one, that is using Armstrong. If you can, look at the new model. A much safer bet.

    • @nikita.gazarov
      @nikita.gazarov 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@WingsurferNL Thanks. Unfortunately the latest model is out of my budget for now. I'm a bit confused though, the new model has longer tracks, yes, but when you're holding both the new and old boards in the video at 6:30, it kinda looks like in the new model, the tracks are expanded to add track length on the rear, not on the front, you know what I mean? It's puzzling to me why this change moves the ideal mast position backwards in the tracks, when the front of the tracks remains in the same location, more or less. Perhaps it's the new board's shape that changed this, somehow... On the 22/23 model, did you want to put the mast more forward just to be able to make sharp turns / tricks with strong rear foot pressure, or was it bad enough to be a problem even during normal casual use as well? Basically, how does it feel / how do you know, when you have this problem? Is it only a problem when using footstraps, because the position of your feet are locked?

    • @WingsurferNL
      @WingsurferNL 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@nikita.gazarov It is in combination with the footstraps. Suppose without them you have some more room to move around. Looking at a photo, it seems straps have gone more to the rear on the new model. On the old model I could use a Advance fuselage from Axis foils almost al the way to the front. Advance+ (20mm closer to frontwing) I ran out of track space. F-one all the way to the front was possible. Armstrong i have not tried.

      Not really. Alltough the new Ginxu 2 model is longer, for the conditions we get I think it will be more difficult to get up on a similar size. The Ginxu Super K is a different story. The 92 gets going faster then fast. Now gone compare the Drifter 80 and super k 80.

      Big difference. As mentioned there is a gap between the FD and the 56l Wing Drifter. So much more rocker and it costs a lot of effort to get on to a smaller foil. Think I had about 10 sessions untill I got a dedicated FD board (Axis) which almost has no rocker. Where with the Wing drifter I almost ran out of 17sec boost time on a Axis foils Spitfire 900, I almost dont need boost on the dedicated board. And for the new Drifter 4.. I only tried one time so far. But I think it sits in between, so much easier.

    I agree 100% with what you say. I have way more fun and enjoy a bigger board than a smaller board. Bigger board you can get started way easier, get on the foil faster, way less energy used, and you learn faster. Small board, I don't see the benefit of it, apart from storage and transportation. For me, I have 2 boards which are Starboard wingboards, 6.3 carbon and 5.2 light tech. The 5.2 weight is probably 0.8kg heavier than the 6.3 carbon board. The 5.2 light tech board does take more effort to get on the foil and hard work, so I far prefer going out on the 6.3 board in any conditions. I fell for the (You need a smaller board hype) YOU DONT. Many thanks, Enjoy, we are all different, LOL.

    • @WingsurferNL
      @WingsurferNL 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends what you wanna do. Replace the 1099 for light wind by a Spitfire, you would still need something large. Riding swell and chop you can go 1100. But riding breaking waves, you wont hold such a size down. But you might have gotten better by now, so you might get up easier with a smaller foil. For wing I really don't take out larger then the 900. But this size won't be on the foil as quick as the 1099 when the wind is really light.

      I rode the Sk8 950 a lot this spring. Until the spitfire came along. I thought of doing a comparison, but never got around. Both work great and are in a similar segment. As I never compared in the same conditions it's hard to say what's really different as they are quite similar. I do think the Spitfire can and needs to be ridden a bit more aggressive. As the SK8 might be a bit more forgiving. Spitfire 900 is different then the smaller sizes I think. Atleast for my weight it is. I rather ride the smaller ones when it's on.

I'm doing it the other way than you do: my low wind choice is the Spitfire 960 (replacing that good old HPR 980), its low end ability being useful for knee-high windswell while I take the ART899 once it's stronger (20+ kts) so I can enjoy the glide and not fear the higher stall speed it requires. Great review, thanks. I am doing kite foiling and here is my current foil setup: Axis Power Carbon 90cm mast, HPS 650 at the front and Progressive 375 at the back, all that connected via Black Series Short fuselage. The foil is powered and controled by Duotone Mono 7m2 and Duotone Pace 4'6'' foil board. The spot where I ride has the wind up to 20 knots so I was thinking to upgrade the wing setup to: Spitfire 840 at the front and Skinny 360/45. Also, planning to get the Axis Carbon Tray V3 110cm foil board. Any suggestion/comment/advises you can give me would be highly appreciated - thanks.

      Hi Alek, thanks. As I don't kitefoil I cannot advice you all the way. But as setup, I think the Spitfire 840 can better be matched with a slightly larger skinny. The Spitfires also work well on the advanced fuselages. Not sure where about you are from? But I could get my hands on a Tray v3 - 100 at the moment.

    Hi! great review!! very helpful. I am using the art999 mainly for wingfoiling wind bumps here in Buenos Aires, usually up to 18-20 knots and a 5m wing. Sometimes I feel the art 999 is a little stiff to carve aggressively, while it offers good gliding. What I do not understand is why you experience that it takes more speed for the spitfire 840 to get up...being a little thicker and having the same area I guessed it would get up easier...

    • @WingsurferNL

      Well with 18-20 knots you will be fine on the 840. I can feel the difference mainly in low wind, or when getting up on with supfoil.

    • @WingsurferNL

      It really depends on wing size and conditions aswell. For every step down you need more wind to keep going for a smooth ride. But how much exact is difficult to say. Probably figure out until which wind you are comfortable on for the 900. Then try and imagine in how much more wind you like to be out. If the difference is small, go for one step down. Otherwise go 2 steps down in size. Hope this helps.

    Lekker bezig Kris.

      Can't look in KT's head. But works really well when riding 95% with the same foot in front. Stance is more in the center. Other side being offset in the 'wrong' direction actually just helps going upwind. But would not mind a V-strap option someday.

    Hi Kristian!! I am 87 Kg as you and I am riding 5.5x27 88l. I am 50 years young and confident winger, dont jump but like most riding open ocean bumps, some waves and downwinds. I ride in the Atlantic (Canary Islands), we have a lot of chop and wind swell (20 to 30 knots mostly) as you in the Northsea.SHould i go down to 80, 70 or 58 ? My first thought is maybe 70 (15 to 20 less than my weight) if the start in moving water is quiet easy, if not maybe I should be more conservative and go just 8 liter down to 80. A downside is also I think that when you are in shore break you want to get up quickly and if you have to little volume you have to go deeper but maybe a 70 liter board will be a good compromise... other people say that its easier to start sth 30l less than 20l less...Well it would be really a super great help if you can share your thoughts about the boards/volume you have used. Thx a million Kristian!!

    • @WingsurferNL

      Hi Ramon, So far what i found is getting up is easier on the 56L - 5'4 KT board, then all boards in between (56 - 80l range) that are shorter in length. Only board that went easier was long, a 5'3 AK board. Shorter board will help with the waveride turny feeling. But I can't help you choose on something I have not ridden. Considering foil placements, I suggest to try an AK phazer 5'3, 65L .

    Thanks for the review. I currently use the Strike v1 6m as my light wind wing, do you think the 5.7 could replace it or do I need to go for the 6.1 just to be sure to get out on the lightest winds?

    • @WingsurferNL

      Good question! For the lightest of winds bigger usually works. The CWC v3 6.0 probably had a bit more low end then the 5.7. But it's really a small difference. But cwc becomes powered up more quick. For real low winds I take 7m CWC. 4 knots more and I'm out on the 5.7 flux. 6.5 Flux will have less difference

  • @bobkowalski4153

    Thanks for your interesting review. Do you think it has better low end then the strike v3? 5.7 compared to the 5.5? But maybe a bit more nervous in freefly then the strike? Have you tried the unit v3?

    • @WingsurferNL

      Thanks! Yes I think it's easier to get up and going with the Flux. It hsd more pull. With the Strike you really need to pump more. But the yes, the STRIKE wins in freefly. Just the best in doing that.

    • @WingsurferNL

      Thanks! The shape of the RS handles feels better. Probably because of the angle in the front handle. Build quality of the handles is better on the KT. They probably weigh about the same. Wind range on the RS is wider. It has a better high wind range. Construction.. Time will tell... But kt is 'simpler', which generally lasts longer.

      V1 and v2 CWC where basicly the same, different colors. The CWC always had a deeper, more 'baggie' design over the normal Strike. Same for the V3 cwc I think. But I did not try this one. It's been to windy here and the focus lately has been on 4m wings. 4m strike really performs well by the way! 6m cwc is on stock by the way.
