Max FAULKNER Open Champion Golfer 1951
This is one of my favorite old golf photos. Shows Max Faulkner, British Open Champion 1951, doing radio commentary behind the scenes.

doesn't look like mickey wright. hogan said she had the best swing he'd ever seen.
I have another video called Historic Golfers. In that Mickey is at around 45secs. Think it’s quite a good likeness? Let me know your thoughts 🙏
It’s ironic that Arnie would be teaching Mickey Wright. She had a better swing than he did. Almost all other male pros as well.
😀or maybe it is Arnie saying 'is it like this I should be doing it?' :-)
I put this up to preserve the history but am not sure if there is any real interest in this kind of thing? I love the great black and white photo of Arnie on the front as well as the old articles and advertisements. Some things have changed over the last 60 years in golf and some have not. Let me know your thoughts?
Palmer was magical. Such charisma !!! The most popular golfer ever !!!!!
He was - a gent with such talent! Arnies Army 💪😊😊
I’m not sure, but is it possibly Mickey Wright? She looks to have a very nice swing.
@@Hoganwantabe you’re right! 👍 I have another video up with a photo of Mickey Wright, taken by Alex J Morrison. Thanks 🙏 😊
@@vintagegolffilms cool! Have always loved watching Mickey’s swing. A beautiful motion.
Nice golf carts!
At 0:36 and 4:46 Arnold Palmer !
These are from a young Bobby Jones by the time he won his first major in 1923 his swing stance was much shorter, with the pitching clubs his feet were touching even with the driver and woods his feet were not very far apart . He felt that the wide stance was locking up his hips.
Very cool video...thanks for posting
Glad you enjoyed it! It is a cool video and reminds me of how much has changed in golf but also how little. This great swing would still put him at the top of the rankings today :-)
Is this the best swing ever?
I reckon it is!
He takes it way inside then way across the line at the top. Todays teaching pros would say its terrible and try to change it.
Not Peter Thompson, but Peter Thomson.
The Only True Technique to a Great Swing is Owning it....!!
The Greatest to Ever Play the Game!!
Gary Player said he had the best swing he’d ever seen.
Would agree with that - so natural and smooth. One of the greats from those days used to say you need to swing like it was oily (we oils fluid). I still have that swing thought and try 😊
It was Sam Snead who said ‘keep it oily’
0:25 - 0:29 on the very right, beside Bing Crosby, is Phil Harris. The one on the very left reminds me of baseball player Ralph Kiner, but I can't be sure
Great! Thank you 🙏
Awesome VGF!! Now I have a face for the legendary name. I knew his famous "Roll the Feet" in the swing made it to Jack through the path you listed amazing!!
Thank you!! I think AJM is somewhat under-rated. He was a true ambassador and committed to many parts of the game - instruction, photography, author/journalist. I have some more images, including a great one of him doing an exhibition, which I will look out and put up in a part 2. Please Like and Subscribe as I hope to grow this channel and it helps bring more vintage golf films and images to a wider audience. These things should not be lost. Thanks again!
I'm subscribed for sure I love your channel I'm 60 I love golf and especially it's history I find the pioneers are so interesting I had no idea of the interests of Mr Morrison thank you so much for your efforts. My father made me aware of an Egyptian quote "Speak my name and I live again" which I love!
You will find another pic of AJM in the new video I just put up 👍
Deep turn. Reminds me a little of Jake Knapp.
Yeah, good comparison. They both have a very smooth fast motion, kind of just gliding through the ball
Wow! Great teamwork!!! Appreciate all the inputs..... all players except 2 (just 15 seconds of footage) are now named! You are great!! 0:03-0:14: Group including Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Jack Burke, Jimmy Demaret, George Fazio, Cary Middlecoff at 0:11 Byron Nelson (in the Hogan outfit/white cap) 0:14-0:26: Sam Snead 0:27-0:37: ?? 0:36-1:00: Bob Toski 1:01-1:29: Byron Nelson 1:30-1:55: Jim Turnesa 1:55:2:00: ?? 2:00-2:10: Jimmy Demaret 2:11-2:45 : Sam Snead 2:46-3:42: Jimmy Demaret 3:44-4:24: Cary Middlecoff 4:25-4:40 Peter Thompson 4:40-4:45: Cary Middlecoff 4:46-5:00: Bob Toski 5:01-5:25: Gene Littler? 5:26-5:48: Bob Hamilton 🏌♀⛳🏌♂😃
What brilliant footage! Thanks so much for posting. I don’t want to be a killjoy but I’m fairly sure the ones labeled as Bob Toski aren’t him. I don’t know who it is unfortunately. Whoever it is is about 1’ taller and 30 lbs heavier than Toski, ha ha. I think the ones you have as Cary Middlecoff are actually Tommy Aaron and can 100% confirm the red sweater is Gene Littler. Thanks again for these. If you have any more I’m sure many like myself would love to see them. 👍🏻
@@samosborne2918 great input. Much appreciated😊 Please like and subscribe to help us along a little to enable more of these old film reels to get digitized and get on here 👍 Thanks again!
Awesome footage, don’t know where you dug it up but thanks.
I have the original film real. Not sure where I got it but probably at some golf auction or on eBay many years ago. Glad I could convert it and put it up here. Seems many people appreciate it! If you have not already subscribed, please do so I can keep bringing new vintage golf films on here. Thanks again!
Play it at 2× speed and it's even faster.
I think 1:30 to 1:55 in the pink sweater is JIM TURNESA
Upper torso is behind the ball on downswing which leads to major shanks hitting behind the ball. What gives?
This is pre 1960, Bob Toski is one of the players at :36. No Knudson, Weiskopf that I can see. Littler is at the end, he was on tour in mid 50's, which is when this was filmed. Byron and George Fazio are in the Hogan caps, guy in the pink pants at the end looks like Bob Hamilton, who won pga championship in late 1940's
Great inputs- thanks! Was thinking mid-50s?
Excellent inputs! Have updated the description now with your good inputs!!! Many thanks!
Swing your swing
When golf was king
And Elvis 😊👍
Love watching these "old school" swings...How on earth did Sam not win a U.S. Open? Byron Nelson's head looked like it dropped a foot at impact...LOL...I did notice Peter Thomson near the end of the video and possibly Al Besselink as well..
Thanks for your inputs! Yes, just shows there are many ways to do it. Even while we all look for the secret recipe, it turns out there are some common ingredients and then some individual ingredients! Please subscribe - more coming! Thanks again!

Snead had trouble with the flat stick. I don’t know if there’s a prettier swing than his
The guy that thinks Bobby Jones swing sucks...really..how many majors has he won!!! Give me a break!!!
It is actually a great swing in my book - very efficient and smooth! Fantastic striker of the ball. Top top class!!!
I love watching the old school naturalistic swings. Once video was common everybody started trying to copy someone else's swing. I think that ruined a lot of golfers.
Yes, a lot to be said for going with what feels natural. Difficult today to ‘go your own way’ with so many comparisons to the video swing of the ‘greatest’ player 😊
Ive always tried to swing like the old school guys..Way more accurate and using the club for your rhythm makes the game so much easier..Back never hurts either haha
Snead, wesikopf, Nelson, Thompson
Thanks for inputs!!! Can you give me time where you see Tom W?

Who’s the gentleman at 1:32 ?
My guess is Chick Harbert but I'm not sure? Any ideas?
@@vintagegolffilms not a clue. I was admiring the symmetry of his golf swing, very nice.
I think it's JIM TURNESA, I recognise him from the footage of him with the Ryder Cup team of the era
0:11 Byron Nelson in the Hogan outfit
Yes, exactly my thought.... is that Hogan as it's a Hogan outfit...then, no it's Byron!! Thanks for the confirmation!

I think that is Peter Thomson in the pale blue jumper (the high left shoulder; and this is before he injured his left arm, it's straighter here) and I think it might be Cary Middlecoff in the visor (he often/always wore.one).
Thomson around 1:08?
Cary around 4:00?
@@vintagegolffilms No, that is definitely Byron Nelson at 1:08 - he had what his fellow pros called "a vertical sway" not that it impaired his great swing (and results). Thomson is at 4:32.
@@vintagegolffilms Cary, I think, starts at 3:44 up to and then also briefly again after Thomson.
He's not off his left heal, he's all the way on his toe. Such a big turn. Phil Mickelson and John Daley must've studied Bobby coming up.
They all had sweet swings that would last a lifetime. With current equipment you can go at it harder and that is why guys swing so hard today.
Would be great to see the old school play in the modern game. No doubt they would still be greats!
I agree that's Peter Thompson at 4:32, maybe Demaret in the background at 5:01. Could be Gene Littler in the red sweater.
Great footage, thanks for sharing 👍
Glad you enjoyed it👍😊🙏
I just know the obvious ones Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Jimmy Demaret -all very distinctive. Possibly George Knudson from far away and maybe Tommy Aaron crossing the line with a driver. There's a bunch I have no clue about.
What time do you see Demaret? There are a few inputs on him so just to clarify?
@@vintagegolffilms Demaret is on from 2:00 til 2:10 and 2:46 mark to 3:42.
great footage, thanks, what year is it? Looks like Peter Thomson at 4.32; maybe George Knudson in the pink trousers at 2.04
Thanks for the inputs! Not sure of the year. I'm guessing 50s??

He's turning and releasing out like modern long drive contestants.
Top of the backswing is so far out of position but he got it back square every time and won almost everything there was available.. doesn’t matter how…
Yup, looks like he gets the club head well behind him at the beginning of the swing. However as you point out, by the time his hands reach the "V" on the down swing the hands and lag are right where they should be.
Nothing is “out of position” lol. That’s Bobby Jones lol. The only reason you think it’s out of position is because we have been fed “today’s swing”. This is more natural move that most players would be better off trying to do IMO. I’m not trying to be a jerk by the way only trying to say I think I’m with you when I see it but I really think we think that because of the golf channel and the swings that have come like tigers. His swing worked and is great but hard for most to achieve- the older players all have some common aspects that I think are easier to do with a more average body and make it more accessible for us normal people to play our best.
swing sucks but he was the 🐐
Some elements of the swing are not too different from top guys today. The over the top swing on the back is not but the stance and impact positions not too different. He could shift it :-)
you would have a very hard time swinging like that with todays shafts
Some elements are similar and some of course different. Can you imagine what he would be like today with the modern equipment? :-)
no question he would still be one of the greats
They had beautiful follow throughs back then flowing and smooth
Great swing - fluid and very effective 👍👍
No one would ever teach this swing. It is purely his own.
@riley-arr-g I agree all the fundamentals are there, he's the most celebrated golfer in history but he's wearing a dress shirt and has hickory so some dynamics are different but wow what a weirdo comment. Bobby Jones. Yes definitely do not teach that free flowing beautiful tempo. Instead wrap em into a straight jacket of their own with positions and tucking this and that and xyz factors. And they wonder why handicaps actually go up every year.
Can you imagine what he could do with the equipment today? :-)
@DoctorPecker I know you should see me miss my first tee shot of the day....small bucket anyone.....sounds like you're having a great weekend dude.
