This was their masterpiece... I think they won their olympic gold here: after this performance, no one could place them second in any competition and behind no one!!
@steps1 I personally pick T&D over G&P but just a few points. -94 was not really T&D 10 years too old. They were in their mid 30s, most dance teams compete until atleast their early 30s. They stunned most people by turning pro in only their mid 20s. -G&P started their primes in 1995. They were still developing in 94 as show by their never having beaten a non legendary team like Usova & Zhulin before that season (and might not have that season too had U&Z not had their marital problems).
@steps1 Well what about Bourne and Kraatz? They were pretty amazing too, and they broke out of the typical style of skating in Ice Dancing and came out with more progressive routines.... they even used Trance as one style of music for one of their programs! I loved it! The unfortunate thing with Bourne and Kraatz however, was that they were always so unfairly judged. I don't know if they were the best of their time, but they certianly deserved better than what they got.
Bourne & Kraatz were a badly overrated team as they could never handle good content. And many of their compulsories were a hot mess. Their compulsories in Nagano were probably the best example of that as they made multiple errors in both the golden waltz and argentine tango. They were nowhere near the calibre of Grishuk & Platov.
@steps1 Torvill and Dean were good...... in their time. If they did their Bolero program in competition against this however, they wouldn't even come close. And, the music in this program is incredible, even more trance like than Torvill and Dean's Bolero. Of course skating is only going to keep progressing over the years, so it's understandable that Torvill and Dean's programs wouldn't hold-up against some programs now.
There isn't any judges at exhibitions. After every competition there's a gala where the first 4 from men, women, pairs and ice dancers perform something. It can be something funny, something really nice, where they can put elements that are forbidden in the competition.
I remember also, watching this amazing skating on TV. I was crying, and I was happy to see such nice things. Thank you very much! I am very glad I can watch this video now on the youtube. This dress is just fabulous!:-) The dance is full of emotion, the moves were perfect. Some of them seems dangerous and very difficult, BUT very attractive, spectacular. Greetings from Hungary!
It's unfortunate that Pasha let her overblown ego get in the way of their skating. The sex scandal with Alexander Zhulin and her appalling attitude made her one of the most disliked skaters in the history of amateur skating. Which is why they were always met with subpar applause from the audience.
I can't say exactly when I have seen Grishuk & Platov for the first time. Probably during 1992 Olympics or 1993 Worlds but I can't remember. My first memories are from 1997 Golden Gala Euros and Olympics. Season 1996-97 also brought a new exhibition piece to "You'll See" by Madonna, one of my all-time favorites. Ice-dance champion Pasha Oksana Grishuk the only ice-dancer in sport history who has won Olympic Gold two times + 5 time World champion (1994 -1998))
Amazing. Back in 1997, I was jumping up n dowm in front of the tv when they got those sixes. I have searched for this performance everywhere. Thanks so much for posting. Tesekkurler:)
Brilliant skater and best in sport history.
Das braucht keine Worte, danke, noch heute gänsehaut... :-))))

Seeing this again reminds me why I used to love ice dancing so much.
Superior to any ice dance team I've seen since their retirement.

ahh, that's what I thought....nice to get that cleared up, thanks. That explains why it is soooo good then. This routine is beyond amazing.

so exhibition performances must just be for fun then? It isn't something the judges judge?
yes, but it was an exhibition performance and not a competition program. :)

If this was C.O.P, she'd get negative GOE on everything for that disgraceful Dye job!! Apart from that, this is 90's dance at it's finest! Swoon.
doesn't surprise me.
this is the best routine they ever did
the most beufitul thing I've ever seen!
This is not their old style. Still ... best couple to watch !
i agree this and memorial requiem were the best long programs ever!
THAT WAS SO BRILLIANT! I waited 10 years to see this!

Она любимая и гениальная, а это всегда раздутое эго, иначе она небыла бы Грищук!
