Episode 78 - James McCann, Teledyne Imaging
How do image sensor companies approach new product development? Oftentimes it involves developing custom products for customers and then using the resulting IP as new products. Sometimes, however, these products that may target specific applications such as machine vision end up adding value far beyond the factory floor, from surgical guidance to indoor pet monitoring. If a camera can produce a crisp image for a customer, ultimately its intended use is of no consequence. In this episode of Manufacturing Matters, James McCann, Director of the Low Noise Business Team at Teledyne Imaging joins TECH B2B Marketing’s Jimmy Carroll and John Lewis to discuss the company’s latest technological innovations and the applications in which they add value. In addition, McCann discusses its approach to working with camera customers, single photon imaging, and more.

I notice Rbtx robotics are quite suitable for Front End manufacturing automation whereby you can pair these robotic arms with Front End processing machinaries to enhance productivity metrics. However for Back End application perhaps you could approach Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, Tesla and Nvidia for a broader perspective of their use case potentials (not just hardware automation, but also software integration as well) → produce an 1hr episode of this if possible (when succesfully secured invitation slots for the above mentioned guest list). Good luck.👍
The audio really needs some work, you shouldn't use a center attached lav mic when you spend most of your time with your head turned to the left or right. Echo and over modulation on the guy in the middle, and the guy on the right is to loud. This is a good example of when to use a 32-bit float recording, (a sound check goes a long way). Also, I would have had the group away from the wall, they are casting hard shadows and the wall is in focus, but they are not.
Great episode! It’s fascinating to see how far robotics have come in 50 years, starting with ABB’s first microprocessor robot in 1974. The discussion on the evolving role of robotics in the workplace and the impact on the labor market was insightful. Looking forward to seeing how AI and the recent Sevensense acquisition shape the future of industrial robotics!
Speaking of Trends & Technology in Manufacturing, as I was looking at Future Energy Consumption Pattern of several G7 advanced economies (namely 🇯🇵 and 🇺🇲) and based on the Energy Axis (or Scale) trajectory forward there're going to be Exponential Growth in Energy Demand due to several factors (that might indirectly contribute to Manufacturing Sector advancement) : (1) A.I. technology application pursual (in various sectors), (2) A.I. enabled Data Centers (new & upgrades), and (3) Factories coming online (new or existing expansions). Above scenario spawn several opportunities in Manufacturing Sector among the Advanced Economies such as addressing labor shortages in 🇯🇵, incorporating A.I. technology in running factory automation, and A.I. application in raw material logistic & finish good distribution. In other words, how would you want your factory to look like in the era of A.I. boom (or how best do you want to apply A.I. technologies in shaping the New Manufacturing scenes) ?
