Gibson Mark IIC+ squeal issue
Figured I'd test the internets theory on how this happens. I'm gonna guess all the Mark IIC+ reissues do this

Here's one minute and 30 seconds of something I was working on, with a video of the solo I grabbed. This is "16 Whole Boobs" for the band Self Titled Album. Equipment used for recording this track is a Kramer Pacer with EMGs, 1982 Mesa Mark IIB for both cleans and distortion sounds, through a Marshall 4x12 with G12M-70s, and blended with an IR of a 4x12 with creambacks. In the loop is a Line 6 ...

Speed chugging lesson

I get asked a lot how I can chug so fast and tight. So heres a video of how, and what I learned to make it happen. Equipment used is Kramer Pacer Satchel with an EMG 85 in the bridge, and 81TW in the neck Laney VH100R 1980's Marshall 1965B 4x10 with original G10L-35 speakers

Wow, this is wild. I've never had this issue even once with my Mark IV. However, sounds like you are enjoying the amp. I love that they reissued this.

This is the price of entry for sensitive controls. On modern marks, the input gain is fixed at a value below what causes the problem in this video.

Tap each preamp tube with a pencil eraser. One of them will make a ringing sound. Replace that tube. Profit.

  • @davidfaustino4476

Literally the most common issue to have with any amp. It's a microphonic tube. $15 fix. If you don't know this WHY do you own a $3600 amplifier? I think the Boss Katana is more your speed..

@@davidfaustino4476 you must be talking pre COVID inflation prices. Preamp tubes are about a little over $20 USD now. This isn't a bad pre amp tube. Mesa screen tests their tubes to a specific tolerence. Whole reason they're branded "Mesa"... Now I need to look at the schematics, as well as compare to my 1983 Mark IIB, as the Mark IIC+ was basically a modded version, of that circuit. The main thing that changed between the Mark IIB and Mark IIC, was the effects loop.

My mark III blue stripe circa 1988/1989 did the same thing in these similar settings. If you want an accurate reissue of an old amp design, you gotta deal with the caveats.

@themodernguitarist if that is concerned normal in the mesa boogie world then I'm glad I never owned one because that is totally unacceptable to me.

This is from Mesa Boogie. The Boogie is intended to offer its full range of great sounds at any volume from soft to extremely loud. And in order to do this, the controls must be very powerful. When turning up the Masters and playing louder and louder, you should expect to reduce the settings of Lead Drive, push in the Lead Bright and possibly reduce Volume 1 or the Presence. Otherwise you push the 12AX7 preamp tubes beyond their feasible range and feedback and ringing may begin to occur. This is normal and there is usually nothing wrong. It is like having a Ferrari that handles corners great and will also go 160 on the straight...it still can't be expected to go 150 around a tight hair-pin turn! Learn to balance your sensitivity controls (Volume 1, Lead Drive, Lead Bright and Presence) with your power controls (Master, Lead Master). Having them all too high at once increases the noise and problems without improving the sound. Like the tires on the Ferrari, you will have to maintain your 12AX7 preamp tubes much more carefully if you insist on "flying around those hairpin turns" with everything wide open!

@@alexanderzaldivar2835 quite true. We also live in a world that lacks the common sense to RTFM. Even the original 2 channel Dual and Triple Rectifiers had this in the pages of the manual.

@@paulazzi1855 I enjoy this amp more then the HRG Blue Stipe Mark III I had in the past. And it fits perfectly next to my 1983 Mark IIB HRG. I don't feel the need to return the amp due to this issue, as I don't run the amp bright enough to make it an issue. It sounds fantastic. And I'm sure a mod will come around through forums to fix the issue. Just an oversight on Gibson's part.
