Painting Through the Seasons is a step-by-step watercolor floral course for beginner watercolorists and flower lovers who want to capture the unique characteristics of twelve different flowers in a loose watercolor style so they can learn how to enjoy the painting process, increase their painting knowledge, and boost their creative confidence.
There’s a tropical vibe going on with this week’s flower, the hibiscus. I love the wide petals and the long stamens shooting out from the middle. It makes me want to go to an island. Instead, I’ll grab some peace in my day by painting with watercolors. How about you?

That was reallly cool thankyou Jen. It’s so good just being loose and intuitive in your art just letting go in the moment in the flow. Thanks for the awesome ideas and have a lovely day. Happy painting.👍🙏 Thanks🎨🖌️🤩
Please tell us about the palette you use. I've been looking for something with large, deep wells and mixing areas. Thanks you
The palette I used here was a cheap plastic one I found as a 2 or 3 pack at Hobby Lobby. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this and my fav was the one you loved the misted too! The third one I also adored upside down. 🎉
Thank you so much!! They were a lot of fun to paint!
❤
Beautiful- I have watched a few of your flower videos and need to try them!
Please do, it’s a wonderful way to play with watercolors!
Love this, thankyou! I have the acrylic inks but i’m not making enough use of them.
Definitely try them, they’re so fun!!
Hi Jen love your videos but am having a hard time hearing you. Iv'e checked all the volumes, perhaps you could turn your volume up.
So sorry about that, I’m not sure what’s wrong. It’s loud on my end.
An inspiring depiction of mark making. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and skills.
Thanks for the encouragement!
I love it ❤
Thank you!
@@jenfletcherart3391 you make me so inspired to make art work 🎨
they are beautiful❤
Thanks so much!
Hi from Eastern NC. Thank you for your video ! I can watch calm artists demonstrating different techniques and color mixing all day. It is so very relaxing for me and helpful as I try to polish my skills.
Thank you! I’m so glad you could relax here!
Sound is way to low can’t hear you. Could be why you don’t have more views. The only thing I can make out is the ads.
Thanks for letting me know, I’ll check out what’s wrong.
Hated Harry Potter book and movie, why are you talking about it over and over? I was here to hear about watercolor, not a book review
To each their own, that’s why there’s so many books out there!
So glad I found you 🌷
You’re so sweet! Thanks for being here!
Very much enjoyed watching this. Thank you😊
So nice of you to comment! Thanks!!!
This is very helpful thank you. Happy I discovered you today, from New Zealand😊
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
That turned out really well. Such a fun challenge, I need to work on speeding up because it really loosens things up.
It really does help so much. Especially when battling excuses to not start or when dealing with creative block!
You covered up that wonderful pinkish color. 🫣 Otherwise I love it. ❤️
I know!! When I rewatched I was bummed too, took it too far. But, I can always paint it again! Thanks for watching!
This is a great set of lessons. Im just getting back into acrylics. This layering technique is the aesthetic I love. Thanks for these videos 😊
I love layers so much! Thanks for watching!
I just found you TH-cam channel and I love these 10 minute paintings! Can you explain how you choose your focal point? Also what was the crayon you used was is a pastel? Thanks for the videos can’t wait to try this!
Hi Jessica! The crayons are called Neocolor II and they’re made by Caran Dache. For focal points, that takes a lot of practice. But, some basic composition tips are to choose an off center point on your page, use a large element surrounded by smaller ones, or use complementary colors (like blue/orange or red/green) or darks and lights next to each other to draw attention to your focal area. Hope that helps without being overwhelming!
I love how you explain what you are doing and why.
Thank you! I want everyone to experience how amazing being creative can be!!
That was very relaxing watching you do the swatches. I have a tube of Buff Titanium and now I have some ideas on how to use it. Thanks for the video 🌸
Thank you so much, I’m glad you already have a tube and can try it out!
Does Winsor & Newton work the same? Great video. Thank you
You would still need Potters Pink from Daniel Smith, but you could mix it into your Winsor and Newton colors. Try it and see.
Thanks. Just tried it. Gonna go back in with some gesso and white charcoal for extra fun. Got me thinking to paint some black grid squares and use white materials over it on the opposite page.
That will be so fun to add in!! I want to try dark backgrounds more often.
Loved this am gonna try it!
Yay, let me know how it goes!
Nice swatchs ! My favorite mixers are potter's pink, buff titanium, lavender and viridian 👋
I’ve never tried lavender, I might have to pick that one up!
Interesting color mixing with some fyn new colors! Never read or saw Harry Potter. 😊
Thank you!! If you’re ever in the mood for a great book series, no matter what age you are, read them!
Swatching never gets old. The buff titanium leans towards a warm yellow, so I would expect blue colors to become more green when mixed with it.
It really doesn’t, I think I’ll be swatching colors for life!!
I like it a lot. Such vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes.
Thanks so much! This was a fun one.
Love all of your ideas!
Thank you so much!!
I have used this potter's pink and buff titanium trick for a while. I could not resist the new Daniel Smith offering of five granulating colors for the price of four. Serpentine, Sodalite, Piemontite, Hematite, and Mars Black. All five are amazing and worth the price. I bought it for the green to use in landscapes but have fallen in love with the hematite for gravel, concrete and other grey-brown surfaces.
Serpentine is one of my absolute faves!! Isn’t granulation so much fun!!
Potters Pink has been on my wish list for a while. I really like the results. I'm a Harry Potter fan too! I have read the books a few times and watched the movies many times. I love the books more, but at this point, I like how the stories are handled in each medium. And yes, Goblet of Fire is my favorite. The movie scene with one character crying out "My boy!" gets me every time. Thank you for the video!
That scene gets me every time too, so good!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! 🤩 This is really interesting.
So glad you liked it!! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for doing these. I think color mixing is alchemy! (Tying in to your Harry Potter theme) I liked the books best. This was fun! Have a great day. 🌻
Yes!! Color alchemy, I love it! I love the books too. Which one is your favorite?
DS lunar earth! IOne of my favorite granulating colors.
Yay, thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try it out.
This was a fun one! I love that you are using the same chart, so we can see the effects together! The cadmiums, ultramarine and cerulean plus the lunar black (PBk11) are in some of Schmincke's super granulation series. Most of which can be mixed at home. If you really love Viridian, but hate the dried up rock that it tends to be in most brands, get M Graham's version. Very highly tinted, very granulating and soft. It's the best IMHO. Thanks for sharing and happy exploring! 🌻
Thanks for sharing!! I was getting ready to try some new watercolor brands, so I’ll check out Schminkes for sure. I love these multi-row color charts!
Seems to me these are beautiful landscape colors! Wouldn’t any of the granulating pigments work the same way?
They would be beautiful in a landscape painting!! And yes, the granulating pigments are amazing! I just got suggestions for a few other lunar colors to try.
I have played with mixes of Lunar Red Rock
Thanks for the suggestion!! I’ll try it out.
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have to try it out!
Hey there Jen....Rus here from Pennsylvania and I am a new subscriber! Ive been a Professional Artist since the mid 70s and also a teacher during these past few years...I mostly work in Watercolours but dabble in all mediums from time to time. I came across your channel during my daily search for inspiration and truly love your videos! You are honest and creative...and have so much to offer the creative community! I have been also seriously considering starting my own TH-cam channel to teach others and to review products for both those just starting out and the old dinosaurs like myself.. LOL!...Anyway I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself and to say hello..and to thank you for giving me the inspiration I needed today! We all keep learning on this creative journey and the best part is we can share and learn from each other! So again thank you and I wish you many blessings! ..Sorry for the long winded message....Rus from Bucks County Pennsylvania...❤️🖌🎨🤓
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an encouraging comment. I’m so glad you found a bit of inspiration to keep you creating, that’s my number one goal!! Also, I live in NC now, but I grew up in Bucks County, small world!
These are gorgeous. I don’t have Lunar Black but I do have Lunar Blue. I’m going to try this with the blue to see what happens. Do you have any good mix combinations for a peach color?
Yes!! I love peachy coral colors. In my main watercolor palette I have opera rose, quinacridone burnt orange, yellow ochre, cadmium red medium, and I think it’s cadmium yellow medium. Mixing and matching these colors make some amazing peaches, pinks, and corals. If you have any that are too bright for you, try toning it down with its complementary color. Have fun!
Cheaper than purchasing multiple bottles of granulating medium. Thank you!
Yes it is!!
This was a fun and informative video. Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching!!
This was calming and peaceful to watch. I’ll try it.
I’m so glad!! I want to share with everyone how painting can be such a fantastic outlet for stress relief.
Hi Jen, Just found this. This was so cool to watch. Thanx for the inspiration!
Thanks for watching! I had fun making these.
Lovely! Catch my comment and like to support your creative channel! From the bottom of my heart I wish you success! With a friendly smile, Mr. Hi!
Thank you so much!!
I love it. !! ❤❤❤❤ I started abstract painting like two months ago. I’m starting to feel like that’s where I belong. 😍 I love working with different mediums. Your work is so beautiful. 💗
Yay, I love when things start to click!! I use so many different mediums and tools to keep it interesting!
Beautiful ❤️!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the encouragement!!
Love this. I’m going to try making something similar.
@@sarahspitzer7498yay, please share if you do!! I love getting those emails.
The 3rd was my favourite ❤
Thanks Cindy!
This looks great! I thought the mother color was to be made from the primaries used in painting. You used different colors to make mother I think. Can you explain this a little? Thanks
Hi there, thanks for watching! I first learned that a mother color could be made using 3 primaries as well. Later on I learned any mix of colors can be a mother color when you use it as the harmonizing color for the rest of your painting. So, mix that pile of color first and then mix that color into any other color you’re using. Even the smallest amount makes it harmonious. I started exploring this concept and have created some gorgeous shades. There’s a video coming up where I take you on a tour of my color sketchbook and you’ll see pages and pages of experiments! Hope that helps!
Yes! Thank you
Love this!! You’re an amazing teacher
You’re so sweet, thanks for watching!
