Bravo. The level of basic mathematical education today is just tragic. We mathematician will CURE the world form stupidity. But to be honest the problem isnt in line 3. The transformation from line 2 to 3 is correct (f.e. u can do transformation 3=9^1\2, but u cannot do 9^1\2=3). The problem is in line 7. i^2 = -1, any number sqeared has to give positive number XD. Other mistake is in line 5 - in function like x^1\y, X here HAS TO BE POSITIVE.

I tried to solve this in a another, simpler way... : w = woman d = daughter w = 3*d //woman is three times older w-8 + d-8 = 112 //woman and daughter 8 years ago have 112 years together (3*d)-8 + d-8 = 112 // replace 'w' with 3*d 3*d + d - 16 = 112 4*d = 112 + 16 = 128 d = 32 w = 3*32 = 96 So the requirement is fulfilled for 3 times older mother than daughter, but the result is different. Can there be many results? :)
