Oliver Anderson - Doctor - Purple Heart Sessions
A live acoustic rendition of my original song, 'Doctor' recorded at Purple Heart Studios.
'Doctor' is an indie folk/rock song written about my teachers telling me I should pursue something more academic than a music career.
Purple Heart Studios has an incredible way of capturing live music and making it sound like a fully produced track, while maintaining the rawness of a live performance. A huge thank you to all at Purple Heart Studios for having me in to play some of my original music!

A Song I Wrote During A Breakup

I wrote a new song about a break up I went through about 5 years ago. Today I'm telling the story of a relationship that ended quite sadly, and then playing a song for you at the end (which I wrote during the breakup) called 'Burning Leaves'. Thanks for listening :) 0:00 - Intro 0:13 - Story 1:47 - Song

Singing 'Birds of a Feather' by Billie Eilish without ever hearing it! I know I've been living under a rock but I haven't heard much of Billie Eilish's new music! So I thought that was the perfect excuse to cover the song completely blind. I absolutely love Billie's music, and I hope I didn't completely butcher this song!! Thanks for watching :)

By popular demand, I am sitting down today to listen from start to finish to one of the most influential albums by one of the most influential bands. Nintendocore is Crazy

Today I’m checking out some new music. I heard about ‘Nintendocore’ recently and thought I’d check some of it out. It’s meant to be rock/metal music that uses ‘video game’ style sounds from the old school days of Nintendo. There are so many ‘cores’ nowadays and this feels pretty crazy, but let’s check it out anyway because there might be some bangers in the nintendocore community. Credits: Musi...

The genre is "Beatles"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Eleanore Rigby" is strings galore!
Sgt. Pepper is a fine album.....but have you checked out Rubber Soul or Revolver yet?
1:Way down we go-Kaleo✅ And the others no lol 🚫
How do you not know naive😭😭
Okay listen i hear country influences in her music and finally seeing the chords it made sense! I love your version too!! ❤
Less Yapping...More Listening. Please.
Great little site for that, it’s called Spotify
You could react to "Dark side of the moon" by Pink Floyd
The Kinks did several "concept" albums. The best of these imho is the brilliant, but much ignored, "Schoolboys in Disgrace." No doubt you will ignore it, too. 😢
So relaxing watching a Brit react to Sgt Peppers. Americans constantly say: "What does it Mean???" They never shut up and enjoy the show.
Love to hear that you enjoyed :) cheers for commenting
I would do the same thing with Revolver. It's incredible.
Will do this next!! Loads of people telling me to, sounds like a plan
Next up you might want to listen to the Beatles “Revolver” album, it was released in August of 1966. While Sgt. Pepper was groundbreaking in 1967 for many reasons, many Beatles fans consider “Revolver” to be their best album song by song. When Bob Dylan introduced the Beatles to weed in August of 1964 in a room at the Delmonico Hotel in New York City it literally changed everything for them. When they began taking LSD in 1965 after they recorded the “Rubber Soul” album it was an even bigger transformation. When you listen to “Revolver” it will be immediately obvious that they had taken acid. No, they didn’t record the music on acid because it would come out good, but they ideas for the music and the lyrics absolutely show that they had “turned on” to acid. The last song on “Revolver” was “Tomorrow Never Knows” and it was extremely shocking in 1966 because it was so “far out”.
SOO UNDERRATED 😢 😻
@@Prii_118 thank you :)))
Amazing ‼️😍 and u heard skinny because of meee 😅 the last time I watched this video it had 1 like and 2 views 😭 great to see the amount you have now 😊
Such a sad song😭😭😭thank you for showing me that!
The Beatles IS the genre - they were a force and an entity. Just about every band that followed cite The Beatles as ground breaking, and a direct influence on their music including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Nirvana, Oasis - all legends themselves. If not for The Beatles, the music we love today would sound very different. They revolutionized music engineering and production, and weren’t afraid to experiment.
Please reaction to George Harrison - Try Some Buy Some
'They lived life, and they put it in an album.' That's perfect. The best albums often reflect something bigger than themselves.
Sickkk
Thank you :)))
Great reaction. Thank you.
I'm glad you think so man!
This album exhibits a characteristic of a lot of pop music at the time, which is the very deliberate splitting of instruments and tracks into left and right and center. There’s a track on here, “Good Morning, Good Morning” we’re towards the end if you listen, you can hear a pack of dogs running through your head via the use of stereo. You don’t get the experience just listening to the album off of phone, you either need headphones or an actual quality speaker system. It adds a whole new dimension to it.
P.S. Great reaction. I particularly like how you pick up on similarities between these songs and songs by other artists, either melody or overall sound.
I'll have to go back and have another listen to that!! Thanks for letting me know
Thanks so much, I'm glad you think so :))
gg bro
Cheers mate :)
Great seeing young people reacting to the Beatles. A little quibble we can hear you perfectly but the music is too quiet. Needs to be up to eleven. Amazing album.
Thanks man :) I'll see what I can do about the sound :/
I think it is to early in your musical journey to react to a full album, but I want anyway to point out, that the same month as Sgt Pepper was released, also Frank Zappa released his second album "Absolutely Free" (of 62 albums during his lifetime). The cover of the third "We're only in it for the money" include a parody of the Sgt Pepper album cover. At least the first album "Freak out!" 1966, may have had as much influence on rock history as had Sgt Pepper! But it was absolutely not a commercial success. It was produced on the other side of the world (California). No drugs were involved (except nicotin and coffein). Only musicians (like the Beatles) and a few fans listened to his music initially. But, you may found elements of later rock here for the first time - and actually any genre.
Youuu neeed moreeee recognition brooo!✨
Thank you so much!! Honestly you commenting helps a lot so thank you :))

One word to describe the Beatles is 'Brilliance."
Agreed
Well done, I'm one of the owners of Musosoup, thanks for the mention and keep up the hard work!
Hey thanks man! And no worries, you guys are doing great things for us independent musicians :)) much love
Whether you like the album or not, it's quite an experience to listen to, which makes it time well spent.
Oh yeah, no regrets, absolutely loved it
Love your reaction to this all-time classic album. Now you may be starting to realise how enormous the band was (I was there in Liverpool when it all started by the way) at the time and remains to this day. Your reaction to ‘A Day in the Life’ was fascinating to watch. Thanks for covering this absolute gem of a work of art!
I really am starting to get an idea, I think I'll go and dive in to some more of their material next week and get a feel for how they evolved over time
The Beatles sense of humour really shines through in their music, particularly with this album. Love the lyrics!
This was fantastic! Packed full of valuable information ❤ thanks for sharing all of this 🙏
You’re very welcome!! I’m glad it can be of use :))
love this version! smashed it
Thanks so much!!
Such an underrated hidden gem. Good song my friend and beautiful voice 🔥
Ah thank you so much mate :) glad you enjoyed
The time signatures in "good morning good morning" are ridiculous. The intro and bridge is 4/4, the first line of the verse is 10/4 the second is 12/4 the third is 9/4 and the last is 14/4.
They really weren't afraid of trying things out were they
Hmmm? I see 5/4, 4/4, and 3/4 only in the sheet music. Nothing like 14/4. Anyway, 14/4 would be broken up into bars of 3/4, 4/4, 2/4 and 5/4.
An album that will give you a similar experience of a journey is Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd!
100% agree, except with ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ he’ll probably need a box of tissues by his side which is the case for much of Pink Floyd’s music!
The Moody Blues' Nights in White Satin is also a great concept album listen from later the same year.
“The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” for me, recorded next door while The Beatles recorded “Sgt. Pepper’s”.
I've heard it! An incredible album and one of the reasons I was so excited to hear this one when I heard it was a concept album too!
Great gig in the sky always gets me :( It was the music they played at my grandads funeral (He was a very fun man)
When I'm 64 is a real period piece: 64 is still young these days! But in 1967 there were no joint replacements, no open heart surgery, minimal cancer treatments,.... Rita, Michelle, Julia,... Good Morning was forgettable even back then. He's looking at a box of cornflakes. A Day In The Life: a tasty morsel just when you think the record's over. A few prominent critics back then thought this was the only great song on the album. A lot of time was spent getting Lennon's voice just right.
Oh wow, really? The ONLY great song on the album?!
For some people of a certain age, With A Little Help... is a Joe Cocker song. His cover was the theme of TV's The Wonder Years 1988-1993. Oliver, for fun check out McCartney's Tripping The LIve Fantastic live album: He knits together the Sgt Pepper opening withe the Sgt Pepper reprise and some great guitar in between.
Will do! It's officially on the list :)
thanks for reminding me how much fun this album is!
I'm glad I could :) Such a great album
It still sounds "new" because it was unique!
So true… never heard anything like this again
Great!
Thanks very much!!
On good morning life post war Britain was dull, damp and cold. London was better because of the lights and life of the west end but smaller towns over the UK life was very dull and dismal especially in the winter so when you finished work that was it dead. There were only 3 TV channels then as well and that was it. A popular TV comedy series at the time was 'meet the wife' -hence the line go home and meet the wife
Ahh that makes sense! A bit of a pop culture reference then!
Yes Mr Kite. When the Beatles did the promo film for Strawberry Fields in Knowle Park Seven Oaks John popped into an antique shop and apparently the poster was there and John almost took the lyrics verbatim
Ohhh! That’s so funny🤣made for a great tune
Ouch - don't tell McCartney you thought it was Lennon. Yes, they're introducing you to the album. And the song comes back later on the album.... Not sure the song itself is iconic. The album certainly is! Enjoy the rest.
🤣🤣I’ll make sure not to tell him!! Also, just dropped the reaction to the full album and I absolutely loved it mate
Please try some David Bowie, he was to the seventies what the Beatles were to the 60s. Ziggy Stardust is a great place to start. If you really want Avant-garde, try Low or Heroes.
Absolutely love Bowie!! I’m from Bromley too so he’s a proper local legend round here, I’ve heard those two tracks, any others you think might be worth listening to?
Nobody will do it because a) They don't have the talent and imagination, and b) they don't know if it'll be popular. You knew this would sell millions because everything they released was popular, for the reason that their music was simply amazing. Another great album for you is The Beach Boys' PET SOUNDS. It influenced the Beatles in 1966. And Jethro Tull's THICK AS A BRICK from 1972 is another of those albums where there's nothing else like it, and it's 100% melodic and enjoyable. One 45-minute song that never gets old. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys might have topped SERGEANT PEPPER, but he had to give up his SMILE project in 1967. With the help of some friends he re-recorded it as BRIAN WILSON PRESENTS SMILE in 2004 and it won a Grammy, but it should have won "Record of the Year," or maybe even "Record of the Century." Give it a try for something very special.
Thank you David! I’ll definitely be checking all of these projects out! And I agree, the industry now is full of commercial artists and diluted pop stars. People can’t have an original thought without being cancelled, people can’t release an original song without being dropped from their labels. This isn’t an advert for my music but I’m giving a concept album a go! Inspired by Sgt Pepper, just recording it at home and seeing where it goes, might post a video about it soon
For this album specifically the remastered 2009 is the stereo version of the album and not the mono. So this album was mixed with mono in mind for months and stereo was mixed in 3 days. So I highly recommend the 2017 remix of the album since it’s way more faithful for the original mono version. The stereo mix also changes a couple of songs that were unintentional intent. So the 2017 Remix fixed the mistake.
Oh okay!! Thanks mate I’ll give it a listen, probably not on camera but will be nice to hear the songs as they intended
Dude glad I checked your channel out. Your reaction to Sargent Pepper was awesome. I subscribed. @michaelflanagan6583 your statement of Julian's drawing inspiring Lucy is absolutely true , however, John was tripping balls when he looked at it and creation on many levels happened. The drug references in Beatles music from Rubber Soul, Revolver ,Sargent Pepper and on is more referenced that I ever thought . I'm 71 and the Beatles still surprise me. Paul has stated in his later years that weed and LSD were referenced many times in their music.. Got To Get You Into My Life was about he and john driving around London looking for weed. Too funny
For the original vinyl album all production efforts were put into the mono master, stereo was still an expensive novelty, and previously catered for the serious jazz and classical music listeners. TV and radio was mono, so that is where the mass market was, songs still had to sound punchy coming out of cheap tinny speakers. Early stereo mixes were very basic and unsubtlety panned hard left, right and centre. The Sgt. Pepper album master was mixed from a 4 track machine, that's all they had. They could utilise another machine as a song was built up, but that was just for bouncing down from. To reduce the number of bounce downs to free up spare tracks and the potential loss of detail and the higher frequencies, there needed to be some amount of pre-planning and arranging done, and decisions on what elements were to be reduced onto shared tracks. It was basically mixing on the fly, and the final mix was more a matter of balancing volume, all the special effects and reverb were pretty much done at the actual recording stage. Any creative choices at the final mix stage were severely limited. Their engineer, Geoff Emerick, must take huge credit for many innovations in sound production, the songs are pure genius on their own, but the soundscapes are down to Geoff. The orchestral arrangements and harmonies are the collaborative work with The Beatles and their producer George Martin. (Except for 'She's leaving home' where Martin wasn't available and an impatient Paul McCartney, feeling snubbed, went to another arranger, which was always a big regret for George Martin) the Beatles could not read music, and Martin's knowledge of the orchestra was crucial to accommodating increasingly demanding ideas. They knew what they where aiming at in their heads but could not always articulate it. Martin and Emerick were constantly tasked with interpreting flights of fancy into ground breaking new sounds. There is a fascinating story behind every track on this album which I'm sure you'll enjoy discovering. Over the years there have been many more remasters and remixes of The Beatles catalogue, the most recent being George Martin's son, Giles Martin, who has remixed most of their albums for modern tastes with enhanced fidelity and subtler use of the full stereo field whilst respecting the original source material. There are purist fans who only rate the mono vinyl's as worthy, but then again it depends on the year of pressing. The good news is there is now an abundance of releases to choose from, the problem for new listeners is which to pick.
Wow! That’s so interesting. It makes so much sense that they would’ve been limited in many ways. It just makes it all the more impressive that they managed to release such incredible songs for this project. I am really enjoying finding out about the history of these tracks. It kind of enhances the listening experience more than anything you know? Really puts you in the room with them when you know what was going on. I’ve been told by multiple people to listen to all of the Beatles music, from start to finish, so I probably will do that from here. And some Bowie and a few others. Do you have any other recommendations for me at all?
@@BeingalivewitholiverYou would have your mind blown listening to Pink Floyd’s “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn”, which was recorded next door while “Sgt. Pepper’s” was being recorded. A far darker, proto-industrial, proto-punk take on psychedelic rock, with some fairy tale pop songs to balance it out.
The music on your channel sounds very tinny and bad. It’s hard to listen to.
@@MJ1 you seem to be part of a minority of people who have an issue with it😅maybe just don’t watch the vids!
You might find that Ringo's "With a Little Help From My Friends" sounds familiar because it was covered in a completely different arrangement by Joe Cocker, in fact I believe that when Ringo heard it he said "This is Joe's now".
Ohhh okay!! I’ll give it a listen, maybe I have already heard it!
Your audio sounds like tin ..empty of depth idk how to fix it but you might want to look into it because it sounds hollow and empty...and i appreciate you for your reaction..
It’s laptop speakers through a microphone😭😭but thank you!
" A Day in the Life "...yes John's voice is, was amazing. Sadly he hated the sound of it. This song is undoubtedly the creative peak, iconic track, and greatest Beatle recording ever. And that's saying something! I hadn't heard it in years and was so moved by it and your reaction. One note. Theybhad an entire symphony orchestra in the studio and members were instructed to go from their lowest note to their highest for that tremendous crescendo. There's a story behind the words, they are based on real life events but you can look that up.
Wow!! I had no idea about the crescendo!! That makes so much sense and really adds to it, thank you so much for letting me know!
