    Is that exterior wall sprayed with sealant first before the plastic covers it? On the back that is.

    Thanks for posting this. My dad was a concrete finisher and always said this was what he would love to build for himself. I could never visualize what he meant and just envisioned an animal den-like structure but he was adamant it could be awesome. I’m excited to see the rest of your posts. Thanks for the gift - my dad is now gone but I’ll watch this and think of him. ❤

    How much is this house costing to build?

    • @diamondlakenc788
      @diamondlakenc788 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would be about the same cost or less as a typical house that also has poured concrete basement walls. Realizing that 3 sides of the house will not never need siding, brick, stone, painting ect.

    Hello, I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing. Will that concrete eat through plastic protection? Will plastic protection decompose over time?

    • @diamondlakenc788
      @diamondlakenc788 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be good for many years. Polyethylene can last up to hundreds of years in the environment if it's left untouched, a plastic bottle takes up to 500 years to disintegrate, although if it is buried, this time is even longer. You could use 10 mil plastic instead of 6 mil plastic and use 2 layers if you wanted to.

    • @diamondlakenc788
      @diamondlakenc788 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ames Blue Max Liquid Rubber Waterproofer 2 coats, let it dry in between coats. The 6 mil black plastic was placed over that, next time I would use 10 mil plastic, it would be thicker and tougher.

    Why not get an excavator in there to dump over that wall?

    • @diamondlakenc788
      @diamondlakenc788 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. Yes, a excavator would be great. I own this tractor so it saved me money, because I do not own a excavator, it would have cost me at $50-100 per hour for several hours. I was just saving money using what I do have.

    Im curious how you prevent the water from running down the outside wall and on top of the plastic and into the footer? Does the plastic get pulled up the outside wall? I am looking to do something similar. Thank you

    • @diamondlakenc788
      @diamondlakenc788 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My video will help you understand: Earth Berm House #8 construction Waterproofing Footings & Walls. Yes, the plastic gets pulled up the outside wall. After the wall is poured, I put the plastic on top of the edge of the footing and then up the wall as far as it the length will reach, you can hold the plastic in place by using some type of tar to make it stick to the bottom of the wall, then the plastic you put on the wall should over lap the plastic at the bottom of the wall.

    I think I'd be satisfied just making sure I had good drainage away from the house. I imagine it's more moist in the Carolinas than in Northern Idaho. Anyway, I don't think the moisture barriers hurt, but if there's underground water, no amount of water-proofing will keep it out, forever. I've read some horror stories about building earth-sheltered homes, where insufficient attention was given to where the water wants to go. Make it so the water wants to move away from the foundation, and your foundation will be bone-dry. It's more about making it so it's easier for water to go somewhere else than being waterproof, because you're not building a submarine. With the plan of rock and drainage pipe going in around the perimeter, you should be golden, as long as there's a place for it to drain TO. Very nice to have buried power lines. They do that in some of the newer housing developments. Overhead power lines are an eyesore. Buried lines are less prone to weather, but I wonder how hard it is to work on. Definitely worth the investment if you're building something new.
