They don’t like too much light but also don’t like medium light. This plant is such a diva 🙄 Thank you I will try moving it and hopefully that helps.
Yep. It is a total diva lol 😂
Well done thank you for more information 🇵🇹💯
Hello Girl, very helpful Video, good luck for your violets They have a vey knowledgeable ! Caring owner😊❤
I just discovered you and am so enamored 🥰
i have a little problem with my umbrella tree, she has some leaves with short stems on top and a little second brach on the bottom with amazing growth, very big healthy leaves in a short time, how do i get her to grow from the top as well ??
The only way to get it to grow where you want is to cut off any other growth... 👍
@@thegirlwithashovel Thqnk youm i zil try it out even though i don't like cutting off leaves
I have a question ive had my umbrella for 20 yrs ive repotted it again as it was dying its been a fortnite all the leaves are drooping but not brown ive removed the dead leaves but still no sign of life 💔
It sounds like it could be a watering issue. You'll have to check the soil and see if it is too wet. That would be my first guess in this situation.
@thegirlwithashovel I think I've overwatered it thanks for uour reply love from the UK 🇬🇧
THANK YOU! I can't wait to make my plants my own
You are awesome thanks for helping me with my snake plant 😅❤
Love your plants! My issue is light. My AV did start blooming again and I think I was keeping it too moist. I have two new blooms after cutting back on watering
Yay!!!
The information is good, but please sometimes I think that you talk to eight-year-old children
Seeing as I have 3 children under the age of 8, yes I probably slip into it from time to time lol.
My umbrella plant's leaves are yellowing and falling off. I've lost an entire branch already and a second one is yellowing fast. This happened previously and stopped when I moved it to a location where it gets a couple of hours of sun through a window in the afternoons. How do I save it this time? The top had been cut off when I bought it so it doesn't grow upwards, and it hasn't grown new branches to replace what previously fell off. I'm afraid if it keeps losing leaves and branches it will eventually die 😔
I would look at your watering. Usually yellowing is caused by too much water, or not enough drainage from the soil.
@thegirlwithashovel thanks for replying. I watered it a couple of days ago, when the soil was dry. It is potted in soil with pumice mixed in to improve drainage. I have a second tree in the same location planted in the same mix that is doing very well. What else can I look at?
Are there any other plants that you should watch out for? They have mites or spiders or bugs? I never thought of that before.
Mainly the palms and lucky bamboo. Other plants coming with bugs is hit or miss, but generally plants with thicker leaves have fewer insect problems.
Grow only one stock with three leaves then it show new growth and the good stock drops off
New growth is a good sign though. Keep trying to figure it out. 👍
Awesome advice & troubleshooting! Any advice with hydrangeas? Mine has been looking a bit sad lately :(
Are you keeping it indoors? I would let it get cool for a "winter" period to mimic it's natural lifecycle. Leave it in a garage or basement. Then bring it back out in a few months. This might help rejuvenate it. That and fertilizer. 👍
I have kept it outdoors until now. We live in northern Mexico, so it’s barely been below 0 degrees Celsius. I’ll try that, see what happens next year, really hoping it will look better next year!
Thank you. My 'Grandpa' plant is 40 years old and looks like a snaky plant with all it's twist and turns. He has needs a new pot for 10 or so years. If it had grown straight up, it would be 10 or 12 feet tall, but umbrella plants don't do that, grow tall.
That's impressive!
My close friend gave me a snake plant and it's been outside all summer here at the beach in Myrtle Beach SC and I'm not sure how cold it's going to get here this winter. It's looking really good now and I'm wondering how cold is too cold for it to be outside on my covered porch?
I would say anything below 50, bring it in to be safe. It could probably survive the 40s but definitely not anything freezing.
Ok, thanks for the tip@@thegirlwithashovel
Hi there. I enjoyed your video. I do have 4 fiddle leaf plants and am having trouble with two of them that I repotted about a month ago. I put them in bigger pots and used that miracle grow soil that claims it helps the dirt not hold too much or too little moisture. Now I’m thinking that I should repot it back into a smaller pot and use a different soil. I noticed that Amazon sells a fiddle leaf fig soil. What do you think? The leaves were turning yellow and dropping. A few leaves have a small brown spot too.
The fiddle leaf fig soil is usually just a regular houseplant soil but it won't hurt your flf. It does sound like it was too big of a pot but without seeing it I can't tell for sure. Just keep watching the signs. Good luck! 👍
Thank You :)
You said to plant it at the same soil height as it was previously. So it’s ok that the stem has gotten tall? Meaning a few inches without leaves between soil level and the first leaves.
Yep that's okay. Just means it probably wants a bit more light. Or it's a bit older of a plant. 👍
My wife Sandra murdered her plant by over watering. She’s in therapy.
🤣
Here I'm repotting my golden pothos (that's been in low light for about a year...) What type of pothos do you have?!
I was getting ready to check "oogle" if pothos do well in low light but you've answered my question. Thanks for the info and this tutorial.
I love your channel! Try to use compost tea after transplanting! 🇵🇹💯
Moving like to keep it lighted by indirect sun then indoor??
??
How do we propagate the mini umbrella plant?
The same way as a normal schefflera 👍
How do I keep my leaves. Or make my leaves grow on my rubber plant. It's top full, but none down the stork at all. It's not barring new leaves expect for the top only. Own the two storks. Help me please.
It will only keep growing out the top until you prune the top. Then it will start growing more lateral branches. 😊
Thanks for your video. If a pot is too big will that result in the plant not growing at all?
It could cause root rot. That's the biggest worry of having it in a pot that's too big.
They bloom when they are root bound. Pots should be one third the size of the top diameter of the plant . .
Hi thank you sweetheart given me help with my rubber plant leaves dropping off xx
My mom got an umbrella plant from her aunt's funeral, we had issues with fungus gnats so my stepdad moved it outside. The entire plant snapped off at the base and her birthday is around the corner and I've been debating on buying a new one. I'm going to try some cuttings first. I have growth hormone coming in tomorrow
Good luck! 👍
Is October too late to repot my money tree if I think it needs a smaller pot??
If it's having over watering problems because it's in too large of a pot then I would repot it no matter the time of year! 👍
If my umbrella plant lost a lot of leaves and is looking rather thin will those leaves eventually come back and fill out. Should I ever cut it back? It's almost to the ceiling now.
I wouldn't propagate it until it's healthy. It sounds like it is not getting enough light and it's stretching upwards. I would move it closer towards a window or get it a plant light! 😊
Should I cut of the curled leave?
You can if you'd like. It won't ever uncurl. 😮💨
My plant has some sticky, sappy stuff on it but I don't see any little bugs or scale??? Help.
They're probably there. Check for any webbing in the leaf joints...
I have a money tree and two of the stems are mushy and soft should I cut this down off where it’s soft or should I remove the entire soft root without trying to save it
If it's mushy down by the base then the roots are probably compromised as well... I would recommend removing the entire stems.
Thanks. Great tutorial ❤️
Thanks for the video. Is that a clay pot and may I have the size please? Someone told me to use clay pots. My plant is not happy so I will try this.
This is a clay pot. I would use a 6" pot depending on the size of your own plant. Good luck! 👍
Mine is not braided. They're growing exponentially! Any ideas to slow them?
If it's growing a lot because it's leggy then I would give it more sunlight. If there are short leaf nodes then you can slow growth through trimming.
I have a schefflera "tree," with one long naked trunk and sets of leaves at the top. It's about 8 feet tall. After a summer outside I can't fit it in my house anymore. I tried air layering but it has not formed roots and it looks like the area I took off has healed. Can I do a jumbo version of this kind of propagation? Just cutting the trunk below where the leaves are and using either soil or water??? I've been taking care of this previously neglected tree and am quite fond of it. I want to make sure I won't kill it...
The hard part is that the trunk portion most likely won't propagate. You need the green stem portion to get roots. But if you do cut a trunk portion back then if it's healthy it might give you new shoots at that level. It's always a risk though, as all propagation is. Good luck with it! ☺️
I've also heard they don't like being moved much.
I have inherited an 8ft very leggy plant from a neighbour who died. Lots of leaf shedding probably due to moving it and also I think I’ve over watered in my keeness to keep it going. So as it’s in low light I’m thinking let it dry out before watering from the base?
Yes the first step is definitely let it dry out completely before watering again. Then consider getting a grow light for it. They have some nice full spectrum lights and I know my money tree loves it.
❤
❤
❤
❤
❤
Thank you 🙏 I’ve watched a ton of snake plant 🌱 videos and with you I finally got my answer. I’m a fan❤
So should we water from the bottom up I normally put the water in a bowl and let the plants drink
Either way is fine. As long as you water it! Haha! 😉
Your hot
Hi there again. Excuse the many many questions but what brand coco coir do u use? I saw a brand that the coir had humus and earthworm castings as ingredients… I plan in following ur recipe here with the coco and am confused a bit… 😅
I don't have the brand name on me right now but I just bought some bricks off of Amazon. Just coco coir. Those extra ingredients aren't necessary (and I'm wondering if that's why someone was saying their coco coir bricks smelled weird). You'd get a few added nutrients but in my opinion if you're mixing your own soil then you'll want only the base materials so you can control what you put in it. Make sense? Good luck! ☺️
Makes sense. Ended up with a brand that is pure coir and organic. Emailed support to ask 😂. Also wondered about osmocote dosage… i found a cap inside the bottle (im using the exact same one you do) and wondered if that’s what they meant by a “capful”? Also it said to add it to the top 1-3 inches of soil so does that mean to add to the planter as i am potting a plant? I guess it all works out regardless but just asking 😅
My snake plants is rotten from roots
Bummer. Try propagating the leaves. 👍
I have only snake plants and they're all in terracotta pots with trays (so too heavy to move to the bathroom to be watered). I use my outlook calendar to remind me to check my soil (with a soil meter) every week and once a month to wipe down their leaves. If they need water, I'll water them. If they're still moist, I wait for next week to water them. I only bottom water my plants. Usually the tray needs to be filled twice, but I check the next day with the moisture meter just in case. I usually water them at night before bed. The only time I top-water my plants is if I've replanted them so the soil can settle. I have a plant light for my snake plants as I don't get any sunlight. I know they can survive in indirect light, but my plants seem to love the artificial light, so I keep it on a timer. One weird question I have that maybe you can answer: I have the Dracaena Fernwood plant. When I repotted it recently (a year after I bought it), I saw each leaf is its own root and they're not connected to 1 main root system/rhizome or to each other. In fact, they were bound together with an elastic band that broke when I repotted it. All my other species have all its leaves connected to each other and to 1 or 2 rhizomes... In fact, you can pull one of the Fernwood leaves right out of the soil without pulling another leaf out. It's growing taller, but at a much slower rate than my other species. Is that normal?
Yes this is normal. Just treat it like your other sansevierias and it should do well. And eventually it should have a few rhizomes connecting 2-3 leaf bunches. 👍
