The 5 Simple Steps to Repot your Boston Fern | PLUS (How to Divide!)
Hey, thanks for this video has helped so much. My only question is if I have yellow soggy leaves from overwatering. I did move it to a bigger pot so I moved it back to a smaller pot with dryer soil. Do I take the leaves off that are dying or do I leave them alone?
Great info
This video really help me ❤ my grandma gave me her Chinese Evergreen plant she had it for 34 years and I’ve had it for one and it was n growing beautifully until now it’s yellowing
So at night. Time you want us to water it for nighttime.Because you don't want it to have a simple tangium.Like you said, and that's the patron from means that the Sun is gonna burn to leave. And you don't want that to happen because you're gonna get sunburned. And they are drought tolerant plants
?? Watering in the morning is best.
I have a hard time keeping these gorgeous plants alive but I keep on trying. Thanks for your advice!
Really helpful advice! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video. I learned alot!
Which plant do you want me to highlight next?!
❤ thank you
How do you know if they have spider mites or a pest?
You can usually see the pests... If you're still struggling, check out my Plant Care Pack. 😊 thegirlwithashovel.lpages.co/plant-care-pack-sales-page/
I have some that bloom beautiful and some never bloomed, I always water the top and I have a fluorescent light above them
My plant leaves are falling off, but they are a healthy green color.
Sounds like either overheating, or you recently moved it and it's throwing a fit lol
My umbrella is dropping leaves most green but a few with black soft spots I checked the soil and it is dry not overwatered whatsoever I have it in a west window which it’s been for over a year and was doing great up until a month ago.
This might be a bacterial issue. Look into this. 👍
I repotted one i got about a month ago and put it in a new spot twice (Christmas tree took its original spot and i put it in better light after repotting). The leaves are starting to lose stiffness, some dropping and turning brown (that started before I put it in a new pot).. noticed today that the stem is brown to about half way up. Can i save it? Should i just cut the top that isnt brown and try to save that part?
You're on the right track. Save the section that isn't brown. (As long as it's brown from having problems, not brown because it's growing it's mature stems...)
!!!!!
I put some micorrize in the roots
Great idea!
Which plant do you want me to cover next for propagation tips? I love hearing your suggestions! 😀
Good teacher 😊
Great video…… what is the remedy for cold drafts if you don’t have another spot in your house for it? My plant is really large. I’ve had it for a long time.😢 It’s dropping leaves daily. Thanks💕
If it's from a door then try to keep the door shut as much as possible. From a window, better insulate the window. From a vent, add a vent cover to change the air from being directly blowing on it. Also consider lowering your watering at this time. I hope this helped! 😊
No! If you have it in the shade, then put it in the shade out doors as well.
No! Please. The money tree likes indirect light in the winter and summer if growing in doors. THE LESS PLAYED WITH, THE BETTER IT WILL GROW. It uses very little water in the winter. No feeding in the winter. It goes formit like many plants. DO not move the plant during the winter days. Wait til during to move the plant dlowly. Keep away from the direct sun. It loves umbrella plants to protect it as well. I hope I have helped you.
mine is sprouting new growth but still dropping leaves! its by the window for light but maybe too draughty! But I've nowhere else to put it. Its tall. I wander if taking cuttings and starting again might be an idea? Do you have a video on propagating these plants? Thanks for your advice
Yep! You can find it in my "Propagation and Repotting" playlist. Good luck! 👍 😊
Great video that will definitely help my plant have a more stable life, but im wondering, should I take away the leaves that have fallen or is it Okay and or better to keep them in the soil to break down naturally?
I suggest take them out. Indoors you don't have the same air circulation and soil structure as outdoors. They can start to decompose and may cause bacterial issues for your plant. They also won't look good lol. 😆
My stalk is more brown
Bummer.
How do you cut it back correctly? Mine is so leggy😮
Check out my video on umbrella plant propagation. It's in my propagation and repotting playlist. That will show you where to cut your umbrella tree. 👍
Which aglaomena variety do you have? Or which one is your favorite?!?!
Very helpful
Hi Angela my umbrella plant is dropping leaves there brown and little soft thanks Angela love your channel
Sounds like it's been over watered! 😮💨
Thank you @@thegirlwithashovel
My umbrella plant is on a southeast facing windowsill. Still leggy.
Wow! That's crazy!
Mine keeps dropping leaves. I did overwater it once...so I backed off. I only have ONE main stalk left. Can I prune the whole thing back to nothing or should I leave the final stalk with leaves. I hate to lose this plant as it was given to me as a going away present :( Thank you for this great and helpful video. I subscribed :)
I would leave it for now. Let it recover for a year or so... 👍
I've just watched several videos about African violets and I can say that yours is the most succinct and the most informative. You told me everything I needed to know. Thankyou!
Thanks! It means a lot. 😊
This is an indoor plant dont put it outdoors thats why your plant hates being moved
Yes, but aren't all indoor plants really outdoor plants in a different environment? 😜
I love the way you explain everything
Please I need your help I just moved my umbrella from location to location like 5 minutes on car and the top part was out side because my vehicle small and the temperature is -20, coming home the leafs in the top went down seems get thermic choc because of the cold, what can do please 😞😞😞
If it's got frost damage the best thing to do is trim off the affected area. It won't be able to recover from this I'm sorry. 😮💨
How often should i water my money tree? My leaves are curling so i know Im inconsistent
Enough to keep the soil consistently moist. Get a soil moisture meter if you're unsure. 😊
Great information what if they drop leaves that are brown but not crispy subscribed thank you
Then this would fall under the "yellow leaves" section. 😊
I inherited a neglected one along with an orchid. Neither are flowering yet. The anth has the same sun spots and the stuff its potted in is musty. Bonus there are 2 stems. The stuff its potted in looks more like beat pulp than the orchid mix. When i get orchid mix to repot it and the orchid i also got, would you recomend rinsing or cleaning somehow the roots because of the mustiness? I would think that would be wise. Can i or should i seperate the 2 anth plants or would they be better off together? Since ive had both the orchid and the anth, they they have started to perk up. The anth has about 5 new baby leaves and even the orchid is starting to grow a new leaf so im rather stoaked about both of these plants. (I am a cronic plant rescuer so ive seen some crazy potting situations but never serious mustiness)
You can clean the roots with either water, or a hydrogen peroxide solution to get rid of any bacteria. Sounds like you're doing great though! Keep it up!
Kitty 🐈😻😻😻😹
I have an older money tree that is not doing well. I've tryed moving it to a less light, kept up to regular watering, but is still getting worse.
Bummer. Sounds like it could use some TLC. I'd check the soil. 👍
I loved the right to the point message. The closeup shot of where to cut was exactly what I wanted to know and actually see it being done. Thank you!
Great video and beautiful plants (and I like your down-to-earth friendly style). If I can ask: What if I have 2 pothos cuttings in separate vases? However, I was not paying attention, and the roots are now about 1 foot or more long. How would I transplant them into soil? Cut the roots down to 3 inches or so and place them in soil, or leave them long and place them in soil. Thank you for helping save my plants. Reply
I would leave them long. Just wrap it around a bit in the pot to get them to fit. Pothos don't usually have any issues with circling roots. 👍
@@thegirlwithashovel My plants and I Thank you so much for your response!
Thank you for the great video that should save my ferns. 🙂
Thanks!
My Boston Fern is at least 15 years old, and the stalks the fronds grow out of are almost 5" tall, meaning the fronds start way above the soil line. It stays inside from Oct-May/June and the last couple of years it goes on what looks like a slow march to death. It's been hard to figure out whether I'm giving it enough or too much water. This June-October it rebounded beautifully outdoors in a dappled light spot. Now it's doing quite poorly. I feel like I must divide and repot it now if it's to have any chance. Nothing I read addresses the tall stalk issue, much of which is old and dead. It's currently in a 17" pot which I upgraded to a couple of years ago. Any advice would be appreciated!
Ferns indoors are quite picky. They like a lot of light a lot of water and a lot of humidity. They do best outdoors in shade during the summer as you've discovered already. If your friends are tall, it could just be a different tall variety of fern. But if they are starting off full of leaves then dropping them, this is a sign it wants more light, water, and humidity. Your best bet is to increase humidity indoors and keep it moist and bright, and try to keep it at least alive during the winter months. Then just plan on moving it outdoors in the summer. Good luck! 👍
Very well said and explained
Meow! Lol
Yes my cat was being a bit of a drama queen lol! 🤣
Great video. How do I maintain watering of my very large Pothos while away for 4 weeks? Thanks.
Aqua globes or automatic waterers in a bathtub...
Im waiting for humidifier...i dont know what to do
U cannot water these plants!!!! As soon as u do the leaves turn yellow at the top then work it's way down on long leaves all my cuttings have died ...
They're terrible to grow they suck up water or something I had mass cuttings put them in soil all died from water? I didn't water u and used cactus succulent soil so I give up
You need to let the cuttings get a good callus before putting them in soil or water...
I put mine on a windowsill with 38 degrees outside. In 2 days almost entire plant dead????
?? You'd have to see. Any mushy portions are definitely dead.
@@thegirlwithashovel also I have some stems without points, just straight across with brown edges, Can I cut these into a piont?
