How long to keep DE on the plant?
Thanks..great video.. I can’t wait to start my worm tea project..Miracle Gro is way too expensive anymore..made my winter vegetables too expensive to grow..
Hi Carey I'm here to learn about flea beetles 😄
DE seemed to burn my plants. So I have very small tomato and spinach now and I'm afraid to use DE
My sunflower leaves are being eaten should I use DE
Yeah mine too. Flea beetles. They’ve been eating my peppers and hyssop as well
My wife and I haven’t had any issues with aphids ever since we purchased and released 6,000 lady bugs in the garden/food forest!!! Our garden/food forest covers just under a 4 acre square, 398 ft x 410 ft area ( 163,180 square feet! Aphids never touched anything of ours except for our corn and watermelons!
D.E. is NOT a pesticide!
DE DOES NOT KILL BEES, it would and can however be an irritant. ALSO IS NOT AN INSECTICIDE. YOU can actually inject it yourself, no problems ,however very bad to inhale, wear mask, it’s like microscopic glass. Hard shelled insects die from it. Ie beetles , also kill LADY BUGS, CARFUL WITH IT. it’s not toxic.
Mylady you don’t needs all those ollas or pots, just make a hole next to a plant and water through the hole.Planted tens of trees like this.
I use regular tap water and it seems to work okay
Works okay. I’m sure it would work great if you didn’t use tap water. Tap water had chlorine, bleach and ammonia in the water, to make it drinkable. To kill the bacteria that will make us sick. But the city’s don’t care to filter out the chemicals they add to the water. So while the water won’t make you sick immediately after you drink it (which is all they care about) you are still drinking chlorine and bleach.
Why unsulfered molasses?
Than you for not having on your title Ollas Pots, since olla means pots in Spanish
I tried this. The taste is not great. Should i add lemon?
Raising worms is fun & easy. Why any gardener would not raise worms totally eludes me
First of all, I would like to thank you for this wonderful video. Is it possible to add beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi to the mixture with the sugar and vermicompost?
I’m going to assume that the worm tea used in soil plants would be plenty. As you can’t over do the worm tea, I think it is possible to add to much of the things you mentioned. But I’m not 100% sure.. since they can have too much nutrients, too much sun. Too much of anything is not good.
Excellent 🎉🎉🎉 I subscribed to your channel 😀🙏
Thank you for this video! Very informative! HAPPY GARDENING
Where can I find that or a similar aerator
Helpful content. Real good for farmers
Can put in vestable? How many times a week n.burn or not. n smell bad? Thanks
Did you mean vegetables? I would say yes. And she said the worm tea doesn’t burn plants like other options do. You can’t over due the tea. But you do have to brew new batches frequently.
and i wrap the tulle around a cluster of tomatoes
Sholgʻommi
if stored in bottles, what is the expiry date of this tea?
TIP !…..Don’t post a video about a certain product for gardens and then proceed to not answer people who watch your videos questions!!!!!!
I thought DE couldn't get wet? But, if it doesn't dissolve, I imagine it wouldn't matter. Else, how could it be effective for internal parasites?
Really, you can mix with water? I’d heard it could only be used dry!
How do you save a flowering plant then??
Don’t get the DE on the flowers. It’ll kill the bees butterflies etc. Not to criticize but the amount used is over kill and never use on a windy day. Reapply after watering or rain.
Is it a must to have an aerator?????
Well done and engaging. Rare stuff. Thanks.
I wish I could lay on the ground in my garden, I'm in SW Michigan on the IN border the Ticks are so bad here I usually have to pull them off me after I go into the garden, just checking the tomatoes for suckers and looking under the Zucchini leaves one gets on my clothes 😢 . I'm going to treat the entire garden with DE and some other things hopefully to thin this issue out, they are probably from all the Deer, Raccoon, Coyotes etc running around here.they can't get in the garden because of the Electric Fence I have around it. At least they haven't gotten past it yet. Fingers crossed the Deer don't jump in when the corn is closer to harvest.
If inhaled, DE can irritate the nose and lungs causing coughing and shortness of breath. On skin or in the eyes, it can cause irritation and dryness. Wear a mask and eye protection!
can you just put it in the earth mulch and knock them of the plants into the insect death trap?
Chicken mites?
Worked on the coop and my Brahmas... I use it dry.
I’ve heard yes.
Where did you get those nice tomatoe cages
Hi dear!! Where to buy this Diatomaceous
You can buy it at home depot if you are in ÙS. Probably amazon or Ebay has it. A lot of places have it.
I thought DE had to be dry
If it’s suspended in water, it does not dissolve. Once the water evaporates, a fine layer of DE will be left behind.
I’ve heard that you can take sheep wool and place it around the root of the plant to get rid of flea beetles. I understand the wool is like a net to capture the beetle (and other insects). Do you think this is correct?
The Beatles just kept chewing them up
Diatomaceous earth didn't work on my potato plants
Can well water be used to make the tea?
No. Well water is usually salty, which can kill a plant
Can you use to much worm castings?
Watch the video she explains it
OK so the chemicals and drinking water make it safe for us to drink but they kill biological activity?
is it important to heat up the water? i was always told to put a water heater in and warm the water to about 28 c as the bacteria like it warm
Well explained, but one remark though: why would you use molasses? Those mainly stimulate bacterial life, which already dominates the majority of soils. Wouldn't it be better to use fungal feeds instead? Fungi are the best allies of perinnials and also help sequester carbon in the soil. If the fungi were restored in the soil then the soils are back in balance. Which would be helping the plants, the surroundings and make the soil more aerobic once more.
Very good information. I’m new but like to learn. Use molasses to make compost tea reason is supply nitrogen. It helps to Creat an friendly environment for fungi’s. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you
@@joes5222 Well dr. Elaine Ingham, one of the most knowledgeable soil scientists out there, assures that molasses should not be added unless you want a bacterial brew. They barely will support any Fungi because the bacteria multiply way faster than Fungi and will very quickly limit your fungal growth. That is also the reason why many soils are so high in bacteria and barely have any fungi left, nitrogen fertillizers.
Your recipe calls for "unfiltered" water.
Great video! Thank you ❤️
This tea takes disgusting, I had to add so much molasses just to get it down Lol jk
I'm pretty new to gardening, specificaly indoor, and i have a question. If i use properly brewed worm tea once a week and add high quality worm compost from time to time, will i nned to use some kind of fertilizer to grow nice and tasty vegetables ? Thanks for very usefull video 😉
Worm castings are highly beneficial in that they provide and amazing amount of microbial activity there by bringing the soil to life. That being said, worm castings and the tea are not high in N-P-K (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium). You can give it a try and if it looks like you have signs of a deficiency, fertilize accordingly. You can use organics such as blood meal- high in Nitrogen, Bone meal -high in phosphorus and calcium as well as alfalfa meal which is high in potassium. If you use synthetic/non organic fertilizer, you may want to use it sparingly depending on the salt content. The inorganic fertilizers tend to kill soil life. Hope all works out well for you. Happy Gardening!
While I'm always interested in the theories behind various gardening practices, I'm more interested in the results. That is, does a particular practice give me noticeable results as compared to my simple practice of applying compost only to my garden beds. This worm tea concept looks intriguing and I'm wondering if you have done any field trials that show significant improvements by its implementation. That is, using healthy garden soil, growing identical crops, in the same season and applying worm tea to one section and not the other? Thanks for the video.
I'd love to see this too.
This is a good vid, but it makes me wonder what the digested sugars become when consumed. As example in brewing, yeast eat sugars and their waste is alcohol.
