How to Paint EPIC GLOWING Space Marines Lenses
Good job! Liked & Subscribed 😊
Great video. Personally I think the glow from the weapon could be a little more subtle, but the finished article is still really good, especially from the side his head is facing.
Thank you, I do like the sound of that in the future I'll be sure to give it ago!
Super nice scheme. Keep up the stellar work
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!
That cloak is so smooth!! What was your recipe for that?
Thanks for this I used: Vallejo Dark Sand Vallejo Pale Sand Pro Acryl Bright Ivory I did a layer of dark Sand then done a 50/50 mix of dark and Pale then a layer of Pale Sand then about 80/20 mix of Pale Sand and Bright Ivory
Very good
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful content, and at the perfect time for me!! Thanks mate
Awesome to hear, thank you!
Nice! I always struggle with whether or not to 'fix' previous paint jobs, but you've presented a solid argument... :)
@@madnessbydesignVria Thank you! it's a difficult one as I like leaving them so I can see progression but I also like to try to make them better
@@renegadePainter Yeah, that's my inner battle as well - preserve the history of progress, or perhaps learn from history and move forward. Your choice produced a winner, so well done! :)
As some others have say, a glow up series is a good idea as it shows that you can fix "bad minis" after.
Awesome I will definitely do that! Thanks for the feedback
A glow up series would be really cool. Nice idea 🙌
Thank you! More to come!
Good video! 👍
Thank you glad you liked it!
I've absolutely done messed up and left the hull red paint banner across the screen my apologies!
Good tutorial. Thanks buddy
Thank you so much! Let me know if there's any other tutorials you'd like to see!
My brother in the emperor's will, you must share how you got that white so nice.
I've made a white scar white armour tutorial on my channel :)
The flaming sword is sick
Thank you! I still need to make a video for this!
I dont usually think Jump packs when j think Dark Angels, you're making my blood Angels jealous lol
Haha I've got to say I do love some blood angels!
Those metals look fantastic man. I like this take on him
Thank you I appreciate all the comments!
looks great, and seems very easy to achieve. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, that's great to hear. I want to make it accessible to everyone whatever level. I'll be making some further in-depth vids on OSL in the future!
Great explanations, keep up the good work 🙌💚
@@francesca6317 thank you!

These looks amazing! The ability to make it look like a proper light source with such a simple technique is so cool!
@@DukeMcHuge thank you so much! I try to keep it simple so anyone can follow along
brutal
Love the demo. Keep up the terrific work.
Thank you very much, Will do!
Great little video. A question, how thin are you running these layers?
The fluorescent comes pretty thin. I'm not an expert but stay thin and build it up. Since he also uses inks, I'd assume it's all very thin. Some of it pools and he says heavily watered down a bunch too.
As @alkalineatheris6171 stated, the fluoro paints are already fairly thin. You should have a play with the consistency as each paint will act differently. If I had to say on average I would say the consistency is a bit thicker than a glaze. In future vids I will show the pallette as that will probably help
Great work! He looks brilliant
Thank you!
I really enjoyed this tutorial, thank you!
Thank you so much!
right now i have the soilworks fresh snow texture paste. Have you tried it and how does it compare to the one you used in this video?
Unfortunately not, however the reason I like the AK variety is because it can be used in various different ways and you also get a really nice fresh powdery snow effect which from what I've tested not many company's have been able to replicate
Nice video! I would change up a few steps though, paint everything as you did but, skip the metallics for the very last step and before that give the model a coat of matte varnish. Quality is great and it looks very good on camera but the armour looks a bit glossy. Its of course up to everyones opinion but i think it would contrast your silver and gold a lot. Again, really great video 🤘
Ah yikes, I actually did use a Matt varnish over it I completely forgot to mention it! I varnished it all at the end, however your way sounds a lot better. I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time. Thank you!!
@@renegadePainter im looking forward to see more of your videos mate!
Majestic quality. How has your channel not blown up yet?
Thanks for the love!
I like those last two, they had what looked like darker streaks in the middle of the heat, that looked nice.
Thank you, For that there were some raised parts in the Jets so I just added some black red. Unfortunately I don't have any spare jump packs like them so I cannot replicate it just yet
How would you do the exhaust of a terminator? There’s another creator that did it, but I’d venture to guess that the tutorial in terms of paint colors and details are in the patreon
I don't have a patreon and dont gatekeep info, however, I'd probably do it a bit more subtle, also it depends what colour you want, I'd probably stick to the colours I do on this video. If you stick to keeping the brightest points in the deepest parts of the exhaust (in-between the vents) and making the vents darker you should be good, I do have some terminators which I could probably get a tutorial out in the next couple of weeks depending on my work if that helps?
very helpful indeed, you got my sub :)
I appreciate it thank you!
Good job on the vid! Maybe you could link your supplies in the info below, paints brushes etc. you could make some extra money with affiliate links
Unfortunately I don't have any affiliate links but I will find and start adding some links moving forwards! Thank you for the feedback!
Looks awesome! This has been my approach to DA for a few years also, albeit mine are a darker tone and a bit more blue (AK Emerald, Citadel Lupercal & Sons of Horus with a bit of Army Painter Angel Green). . .ive just never really felt the Caliban Green style and always wanted something a bit more grim dark without too much of the mess and grime. Ive also always given them Blue lenses, just feel it adds to the mystique a bit! haha
Thanks! I'm exactly the same, I like the traditional DA scheme but wanted something unique! I will definitely have to give blue lenses a try
Looks awesome! Any chance for a video on your Plasma effect?
Thanks for watching! Yeah I will be doing a couple very soon. Would it be better if it was all in one video?
the smaller two "vents" are the normal power pack exhaust and not jets.
Oh that makes sense, thanks!
I'd like to know how to do plasma effects on the plasma cannons for example on the dreadnought or hellblasters
@@georgevorkas812 I've got that lined up for a future video! I'll be doing 2 videos 1 making use of both the airbrush and brush, another just with a brush
Really nice technique. I am about to begin working on some jumpy boys for my bright yellow marines and want to do something similar but I am worried it might not work out because of how bright and saturated the miniatures already are coming out of my airbrush work
There are a couple things you could do 1. you could switch up the colour of exhaust you want, maybe use blue? 2. start with a darker colour and increase the contrast using this video as an example - instead of adding orange and yellow as the brightest points start with the orange and red mix and build to the darker red. Potentially go darker and throw some in some black. Its all about experimenting and finding what you like, if you have a test model it maybe worth trying on that first. I hope that helps :)
I will have to try a few different models with the blue, and the red as well. I'm not afraid of painting over a few times if necessary lol. I guess as long as a keep the contrast high it should come out alright. @@renegadePainter
ARE WE GETING A TUTORIAL?!?!?!
It's in the works 🙂
Looks absolutely EPIC !!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank you! 😊
That looks amazing man
Thank you!
Amazing bro, what’s your skin and and sword recipe?
Thank you! It was a while back since I painted this, I think it was all done with citadel colours Skin: khorne red, evil suns scarlet, wild rider red, fire dragon bright and lugganath orange Brass: Balthazar gold, runelord brass, sycorax bronze, canoptek alloy Silver: iron warriors, leadbelcher, iron breaker, stormhost silver I don't remember the inner part of the sword I would do it differently now though, It was a mixture of oranges/red and yellows
Which paints did you use for the green armor?
I'm currently making a video for the armour, I'm hoping to get it live for the weekend. The colours used are: Pro acryl - emerald, Jade Citadel - sybarite Vallejo - pale flesh Ak - ice yellow
@@renegadePainter Sweet, looks great. I have those paints -Citadel. I was thinking it was Jade. I use it for the armor plates along with Dark Jade on my Necrons. I kinda tried to copy the Necron killteam box art without Citadel paints lol
I enjoy the way you make it easy for the color recipes. Some content creators paywall behind their patreon.
Yeah, I want to make it as accessible as possible, I get why artists do it but for me personally I understand how expensive the hobby is/can be I'm not trying to make it more expensive for people. With that being said you don't need to use the exact same colour/brand I am using you can colour match with other brands. If it helps in future videos I can recommend some alternatives to the paints I am using?
You managed to come up with such a cool appearance and convincing effect with such a seemingly simple technique. As someone only just now starting to get into 40k, I definitely might use this down the line if I ever touch any units with jump packs or similar thrusters, amazing!
Thank you I'm glad you like it! I hope you enjoy the hobby and absolutely give it ago, have a play and see what you come up with :)
ahhh i like the 2nd version you showed more than the one you did, give me that video please xD!
The jump pack Captain? I'll have to see if I can create a short with it on 🙂
You could paint a few of the same models using different techniques to show differences & benefits of each technique. That would be neat <3 Also love the bite size video lengths and quality, good job 👍
@@ROHIRIMSK I appreciate the kind words! That's a good idea, I'll be sure to make this for a future video :)
Looks sick! How did you do the glowing effect on the ribs and jetpack?
Thank You :) I did this with a mixture of Ink, Fluorescent Paints and a couple of regular paints. I used wet blending to get the effect and smooth it out. I will be making a tutorial for specific effect in the coming weeks. I'm currently working on Astorath and will be doing the same glow effect on him too - Subscribe and stay tuned!
