Very nice documentary that provides a general overview of the pineapple industry and the people and workers involved. As one who grew up in one of the pineapple plantations and worked picking pineapple during the summer the “banggo” was pronounced “baang go”. It’s nice to see a local production on the history of Hawaii. I really liked the measured pace of the narrator.

Wow! This shows yet another vantage point of Europeans traveling to take over other lands. Once there is a sign of valuable land, crops, oil, gemstones, and the like- the TAKEOVER began. It’s nauseating how natives were always treated as less than while their lands were pillaged. This is quite informative. Another commentor says it is biased as it SHOULD be. I’ve visited this beautiful place twice and always have many questions regarding generational wealth. It appears that the Hawaiian people don’t have ownership and have been pushed out. I’m certain that it feels as if you are a slave to your own land. The Dole pice is ridiculous! Governor of a foreign land that you purchased parcels from???? The housing market prices are now absolutely absurd! A once peaceful way of life/living has been forever tainted.

Thought this was fairly well done for a documentary. Documentaries often can be boring but this held my attention. One way attention gets held tends to be by the use of hypnotic music or beats in the background, and also sounds indicating to the viewer what emotion they should have or more precisely what emotions the viewer should attach to the scenes; thank you for not doing that. That being said, people are so used to the hypnosis in the background, that without it, they might be bored, No solution here, but from my view it was much easier to listen to without hypnotic beats. THANK YOU.

Thank you! This was such a thorough and accurate history. I learned a lot. I never knew that Queen Liliuokalani tried to usurp the power of the Hawaiian legislature for a third time! Once when Kalakaua was King, once in 1893 and AGAIN in 1895. It makes more sense now as to why she was finally confined to the Iolani Palace. I hope that you have other videos the quality is amazing.

I’m sorry this stories you are spinning are not facts. Stanford Dole was a citizen of the Hawaiian Kingdom thus a traitor. America committed an act of war by landing troops in Hawaii which was sovereign nation with treaties with: America, England, France, Belgium, Japan and most European countries. The biggest sin of America was illegally Annexing Hawaii. America the treaty breakers must give back the queen’s land to the Kanaka Maoli.
