Would this work for a nose breather? Are you. Supposed to mouth breathe using the piece? I always breath through my nose, even when I run ( I use the oxygen advantage breathing method)
I breath through my mouth to try and control it, works for me to do that and open the airways

Nah because if it was about tension you would remove the element of momentum entirely by doing slow and controlled movements.
