Trail of Cedars and Avalanche Lake Hike
Very little of the Trail of Cedars (it's a short hike!) and significantly more of the Avalanche Lake Hike at Glacier National Park. July 2022.

Leisurely Wing SUP in Corpus Christi
มุมมอง 2183 ปีที่แล้ว
One day after a killer 20 knot session, I went out for about an hour in approx 13 knots. Wish it had been windier. Still, there are worse ways to spend a Saturday. As I say in the video, fast for a SUP, slow for a wing.

My first time out with a GoPro, and it shows. That is, I didn't wind up with the awesome footage I thought I got. But you do see some pretty blue sky and clouds, and hopefully you can get a good sense of the speed. Wind was about 15 knots in Corpus Christi Bay. SUP Paddle to Blue (Green?) Water on Mustang Island south of Port Aransas

My buddy and I tried hard to find wind to play with the wing and SUP, but ultimately had to just give up and enjoy the beautiful weather on Mustang Island. Always worth having a stand-up paddleboard and paddle around. Music by Beat Connection.
Wing SUP in Port Aransas June 2021

If you are wondering what it looks like when you use a Wing with an ordinary stand-up paddleboard, here you go. I am also using the Slingshot sUPWINDer keel attachment which allows me to sail upwind. The wing is a Naish Wing-Surfer S26 5.3 m. I have a separate video in which I review the sUPWINDer keel.

Review and discussion of my experience with the Slingshot sUPWINDer keel fin for using a wing to sail paddle boards. Some clips of me using the set-up (with Naish Wingsurfer 5.3 meter, and 10.6 foot Riviera SUP) in Port Aransas, Texas.

    The instructions tell you to put it 75 cc, that’s to far back because you stand more in the middle of the board and then you keep going down wind unless the upwinder is closer to where you stand so you can move the wing back for up wind then forward to go down wind.

    Great, would you suggest someone who has sailing experience to start learning with a sup and not with a foil?

    Hi. I'm hoping you can help me with a few questions, please. How was the parking situation? Did you arrive super early? I have seen pictures of the trailhead lot and looks small. Also, being there in July how was the air temperature? I'm coming in August 2022 and am wondering about shorts vs pants. Did you have to get a parking permit in advance or pay in the lot with an envelope and cash? Thanks.

    Hello from Galveston area! I am doing Wing SUP too! I'm also doing the prone foiling on the hopes that the skills will all come together and will help transition to Wing Foiling in the surf. Cool baby dolphin at 03:21 🤙

    I’m considering the Slingshot sup winder inflatable and the fOne inflatable board. One offers the dagger board and the other as fins in the back and on each side of the middle of the board. Thoughts on which will rise up wind better?

    it says on webpage that SupWinder cannot be used on inflatable boards? The sUP WINDer from Slingshot is the first of its kind stick on keel. Convert any non-inflatable Stand-up Paddle Board into a "Wing-Surfing Board" in minutes.

      Not really. Took a long time, but honestly I knew I was going to put another right back on top of it and didn't worry too much about any scratches I might make. I got to say, the second one has been working great with no problems.

    I love the video! Wing-suping with dolphins, wow. One question, how do you turn? I just started wingsuping and have no background in wind sports. Would love to see a video on that.

      @coastoftexas-ethanthompson4072 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! I need to make another video! Truthfully, there's a limit to how much turning you can do with a wing and SUP, basically just reaching upwind and down....not nearly as much as you could if you were actually foiling because you have such a bigger board and are dependent on wind direction. I'd say this is where sailing experience does help in my case. You can turn some more when going downwind to change direction, but most of the time, I'm just trying to catch the wind and go back and forth to the same spots!

    Thank you for posting this. I have a 10FT VESL SUP with a sUp-Winder attached at the specified distance forward of the rear fin. I have a heck of a time going up wind, I can only go on a broad reach with it in this position. I am thinking of ordering a new Sup winder kit and moving it forward to give a better tacking angle. I do have a wing - foil board and foil setup but learning the wing handling aspect is much easier on a SUP with this sUP-Winder kit. I think it's a good product with its limitations, and recomend it as a first step. I was concerned about delamination on the fin box but you answered that question for me. I emailed Slingshot about the blisters that appear on the base as seen in your video. (My kit is doing the same) and I wanted also to purchase a new self adhering fin box to make the adjustment forward but recieved no resopnse from them.. This was disconcerting to me so I purchased my whole wing foiling equip from another brand based on this behavior.. Yes it is expensive to purchase full kit, and customer support for even small stuff like this is important. I did this on Slingshot's customer support email link on their site.. It sounds like Mac kite made it good for you. (Likley at their expence). Good business practice, hats off to them... Lastly, I agree winging on a SUP with a sUp-Winder kit is not spactacular, or flashy. But it is very enjoyable, and is essentially sailing but with much more physical balance & fine motor skills involved. It's a clever and economical invention and I give it a thumbs up. Well done video and honest reveiw...

      There is any other brand doing this kind of Fin?

    • @jamescarter3883
      @jamescarter3883 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mixedbydave Hi Dave, I don't think there is another stick on fin & finbox kit... (yet !) Haha! However Bixby has a stick on fin box and I suspect you could order one and place a large quality Sup Fin in there and have some success. But the sUP-Winder has a great solution with the large fin and box together.. They really nailed it pretty well!!

      Thanks, James! I have to admit that I have not had any more problems, though there is certainly a limitation to how much upwind you can actually sail. With the replacement set up, I did go slightly further forward and it certainly hasn't hurt anything. I agree on the customer support point. I may make another video soon to at least give credit that I have not had any failures of the replacement supwinder.

      You are correct! Too far back is not the balance point to manipulate the wing for upwind!

      yep, how could you tell? :) I've windsurfed occasionally over the years but never regularly. i actually tried windsurfing first, but surfing was way easier for a 12 year old! then about 9 years ago I began sailing a small dinghy, because my son was learning and I was tired of him having all the fun!
