    Hi Carsten, you describe exactly what is happening to my 2005 ST1300, while slightly annoying, is there a danger of doing damage to the motor cycle if I do not replace the clutch parts? How many hours did it take to do the clutch repair?

    • @carstennielsen6584
      @carstennielsen6584 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I dont think it can harm the motor not to change the clutch, as long your clutch works fine and just the sound is anoying. I think the job can be done in 8 hours total.

    Carstan, Thanks for the video. I have the preload collar off my shock but don't see how to take it apart to replace the o-rings. Is it just the o-rings holding the inner part in? Thanks, Fred

    You never took the shock apart. It needs a lot of internal cleaning and servicing. That is not a shock rebuild, you just serviced the pre-load adjuster

    Love that illumination! Glad your clutch noise resolved, as peace of mind is highly desirable for confident riding. As a new ST1300A rider, looking to soak up as much information as possible, I am thrilled, even excited, to view with such clarity, the ST1300 clutch. So, just sharing, my first thought while seeing the super-clean parts, was that perhaps the needle bearing was dry while you spun it? I imagine not, but as a reminder to others, ball and roller bearings must be clean and oiled in order to examine them by feel. And the safety reminder is to NEVER spin them with compressed air. Ouch! Interesting to have the pushrod flat explained as a path for lubricant; wondering if Honda might supply that part with a lazy-spiral groove instead of the simple flat. Now I lust after a lift for my garage....

    Thank you for this video. Not a lot to find on you tube about this. I too have the same issue with my 2006 st1300. 98,000 miles on it. Are you claiming that since you could not remove the clutch basket bearing that you bought a new basket assembly?

    If you put a higher rated spring on the damper, do you not need to uprate the damper as well, especially as it will have worn out some?

    Hello sir, Im from philippines, I have some minor issue about my ST, everytime i hit the gas hard or accelerate faster, the F.I lights goes ON, and it will turn OFF when in its low speed or low rpm, I tested it on a long ride and the FI turns on and off quite a while but ive not encountered any running issues about the bike.

    • @dc78759
      @dc78759 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a way to check FI error codes without any extra equipment. Check the Service Manual for the procedure. My personal bias is to suspect a vacuum leak, but I believe the bike's computer will give you some clues.

    • @blinddecks
      @blinddecks ปีที่แล้ว

      If you read your fi code I can nearly guarantee it will be 25 or 26, knock sensor r/l. It’s almost never the knock sensor itself and rather it is a fault of the Ecm that the wiring sends signal to and ends up shifting out. If you take your bike for a ride and don’t rev over 4K rpm the light won’t engage but if you go over it will.

    Hi Carsten - have you got this sorted? I have had two ST1300's and an ST1100 and they all have a noisy clutch largely because of where it is exposed at the front of the engine - the plates tend to rattle especially if the oil is on the low side. The flats you describe are to allow oil to get into the mechanism and lubricate the push rod. As long as it is not slipping under load, I leave mine alone!!

    • @carstennielsen6584
      @carstennielsen6584 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi PDG - Yes i did replace the clutch release bearing as well as the plates and the springs. The noise is gone. I think the noise was comming from the push rod that release the springs and not the bearing itself. I also had an ST1100 with a metallic noice, but it was not from the clutch, it was the dics plate that hold the timing belt.

    Hi Carsten, I have the exact same clutch basket rattling noise on my 2004 Honda Pan European ST 1300. The noise goes away when I press the clutch lever, or with depressed lever, when the engine in higher revolutions than on idle. In my case the noise is most noticeable when I try to pull away in fist gear, depress the clutch lever to the biting point, press the clutch lever again, put the bike in neutral and quickly depress the clutch lever. Afterwards a very noticeable rattle can be heard, which subsides in couple of seconds, but does not go away totally. I have consulted my local Honda dealership as well as my mechanic, and they say that a noisy clutch basket is not uncommon for Honda, and that this should not be something that I should worry about. However, a friend of mine who also has a 2003 Honda Pan European does not have this problem at all, even with a higher mileage bike. I have 49.000 km on the odometer, provided that this is the actual mileage... and in my case, the biting point of the clutch is quite high, which is indicative to a higher wear and tear of the clutch plates, perhaps by the pervious owners, or to a higher mileage of the bike, than the one displayed on the odometer. My friend's Pan European clutch has a mid range biting point, with progressive engagement, and most importantly, the clutch doe not have this annoying rattling noise.. Did you manage to fix the problem? Regards, Vladimir Belgrade, SERBIA

    My 07 st13 with 29xxx miles has a noise at idle, in neutral with the clutch engaged. If i pull the lever in to disengage the clutch then the noise goes away. To me it sounds like a bearing inside the transmission making noise. I've also noticed that since i've switched to running 2 qts of 10w30 HP4S and top it off with 10w30 GN4 Honda oil at my last oil change then the noise is hardly noticeable. I've herd of others hearing the same noise as mine with 90xxx miles without problems. Hope the helps in some way.
