well done
The fuck did I just watch?
Bravo!
This sounds like hentai
Dax to the max my guy
Congratulations!
I can definitely see the applications of this in the soundtracks for horror films . . . .
In all of the Daxophone videos I've seen, no one ever uses the fretted side of the slide, which I assume is intended to produce quantized pitches. Are there any videos showing the use of the fretted side?
My Dog started barking and howling at it around 4:40.
It sounds like Bjork.
The sheer pointlessness!! All it does is create a variety of dog yelps and howls!
It's not pointless. It creates sounds that are a mixture of animal and human voices, has a great bass and also the vibe of a synthesizer. Could be great for horror movie sounds as well
Almost as pointless as the electronic bleeps and bloops my college "composition" professors were producing with their NEA grants
The tongs must be made of dog wood. Or gopher wood. Perhaps gibbon monkey wood if such a thing exists.
yep
めちゃくちゃ良い!
Can you tell me approx how thick the tongues are in this demo? They look quite thin, maybe only 2-3 mm? Whereas in Hans Reichel's pdf I think he says his tongues are about 5mm thick on average.
This is so gorgeous! I am going to stop playing cello and get a daxophone!
I'm so glad I found this
Super amazing sound!
Very inspiring performance. Thank you for sharing
Do you use a piezo buffer? If so, which do you use? Thank you
No. Just piezo
très bonne démo _ bravo
Oh god this is absolutely insane. I must get one and learn to play it.
nobody really sells them. you gotta make it yourself. 😜
This is what hell would've sounds like everyone is trying to communicate but you cannot decipher a single word. Everything sounds like some kind of disturbed dream
seek therapy
Really nice jam at the end!
So. Trees can talk
What wood is your most trusted tong.made of and how thick? Are the edges where played all rounded over. Your videos are a wonderful introduction to the possibilities of this instrument.
every tong is different. but let's say i like ebony
I noticed you did not demonstrate using the dax's fretted side. Is that side of limited utility? Out of curiosity what scale length governs the placement of the frets? Thanks for posting this informative video.
i am using in the further videos. check them out !!!
4:14 play
crazy...wonderful feeling, wonderful musicians.
great sounding.
WOW! AMAZING band! I especially love the theremin solo from 25:40... ELECTRIC!
AMazing!! Thank you for sharing
Love the split bow-hair technique. Will be trying that for sure (but probably with a very cheap bow...) I've tried mounting reverb springs and metal plates on the sound box and bowed those, and found some nice 'horror movie soundscape' effects that way.
i can imagine. thanks for the tips. i never try metal material.
p.s. another great video with lots to think about in terms of making more tongues. Thanks again.
Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any mention yet of (bass) rosin in these videos? I find it essential to get a good grip on the tongue.
i didn't mention it but i prefer dry one. soft one gets sticky
Love these videos. 'play crazy' indeed :) I think this is a good indication of how well you might expect to get at playing 'in tune' if you practice a lot. And I'm even more sure now that some of Hans Reichel's recordings must have used sampled daxophone for highly in-tune parts and chords.
According to this: www.fmp-label.de/fmplabel/catalog2liner/fmpcd046_t.html it turns out Reichel used a harmonizer rather than a sampler to get those tightly coupled 'chords'. But the result is the same, and it would be pretty much impossible to get such 'perfect' tuning otherwise with a daxophone.
please check my recent daxophone album .I am singing imany songs n tune innocentrecords.bandcamp.com/album/singing-daxophone
please check my recent daxophone album. I am playing many songs. I am playing in tune. innocentrecords.bandcamp.com/album/singing-daxophone
I think its possible for sure
Uchihashi, yes that's amazing playing on your album. But not many will ever be able to play the daxophone in tune anywhere near that level. It takes many years of dedicated practice, just like with a violin or cello.
Superb and inspirational instructional video from a master daxophone player. I look forward to #2. Thanks very much!
wow this is amazing!
beautiful thanks
Just discovered this awesome instruments and then subscribed to your channel! I have a question.. Do you need a specific bowl to play it or does it works with a simple violin's bow? Big thanks
For most tongues you'll need a bass bow. Anything lighter (violin or even cello) won't work very well.
i uses normal german contrabass bow.I tried many kinds of bows but this is the best
i tried all bows but contrabass bow is the best because it is widest . Of course you can use any bows if you like.
