Rope Anchor 2.0
How to build a 3-piece anchor using just the rope.
1. Clove into the first piece at the desired height for a comfortable belay.
2a (guide plate belay - as shown in video)
Clove into the second piece, leaving yourself enough slack to tie an equalized master point from which you will hang your belay device.
2b (harness belay - not shown)
Clove into the second piece with just a few inches of slack - enough to avoid setting up a "death triangle" configuration.
3. Clove the rope back to your belay loop using a locker, and then up to the 3rd piece. Adjust the connections to each piece if necessary, so that your 3-piece anchor is as equalized as possible.
I AM NOT A GUIDE AND I HOLD NO CERTIFICATIONS. CLIMBING IS DANGEROUS. LEARNING TO CLIMB ON THE INTERNET IS A BAD IDEA.

9/2017 UPDATED VERSION: th-cam.com/video/OasGT6RggGw/w-d-xo.html I demonstrate one of the ways you can build a 3-piece anchor with the climbing rope. I am not a guide, I hold no certifications, and I would strongly recommend you seek professional instruction before trying any of these techniques in the field. Thanks for posting Jason, it's refreshing to see new takes on building rope anchors! In your previous rope anchor video you set up the guide belay off of all three pieces of gear but in this one you set it up off of two (even though you are equalized on all three pieces). Why do you prefer this configuration to the previous one?

    • @JasonKimPhotography
      @JasonKimPhotography 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a bit less complicated and saves some gear/rope, and I've become comfortable using 2 pieces as long as they are both solid. Just another way to skin a cat.

      Yeah great vids. I prefer the previous method too. I just use a tether right in the beginning since the rope is initially slack.

    • @piproa
      @piproa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregdavidd that was also my problem with the previous method. Love that it's equalised on all 3 points but as you mentionned, when tying in or cleaning the anchors it does leaves a not negligeable amount of slack in the system. Not an issue when you're at a really good ledge or stance, but that is not always the case. Thether does fixes that.

      @@JasonKimPhotography pretty sweet tip! By the way, can you do a vid where you show your method for skinning a cat? I have a pretty good technique but i feel like my cat skinning could be done more efficiently.

    Did the jmt last September with three of my buddies. We actually went from south to north. Started off horse shoe meadows , 30 miles south of Whitney. Two words- incredible and exhaustion . There wasn't any snow nor Mosquitos. I recommend everyone perfect dates to hike jmt first week of September and lots n lots of free food,toiletries,lotions , at John Muir ranch. I'm planning to do solo this sep. Good luck everyone and keep the food away from ur tents.
