Very true. I think that's where I struggle with the "she was framed" theory as well. I know there were horrors in that time period (see Țepeș, Vlad), but these charges were so brutal and specific, it would have been so much simplier to go a more common route for charges - as you said, witchcraft being a popular one at the time. You also make a great point about the land staying with the family and the instability of the monarchy in that time. He wasn't trying to expand, he was trying to maintain control over what he had. It's definitely possible. Although there is physical evidence in the castle to support some of the claims and as we mentioned in the video, there was at the time a belief that the royals believed the blood of the young could "replenish youth". But, as you said, if you look at the political climate of the time there definitely a case to be made that some of the evidence may have been faked or circumstantial. It was interesting that her servants were put to death but she, herself, was simply just locked away in her room - albeit bricked up so she could never leave until her death - which might have been a worse fate, honestly.

The Greeks were the first to employ this style of government. Many have taken the lessons learned and adapted it over the years - for example, the United States promotes democratic ideals but is considered more of a Constitutional Republic. Yet many of the foundations of the country can be found in what the Greeks built so long ago.

No, George definitely wasn’t the one who squandered the fortune. You’re thinking of Cornelius “Neily” Vanderbilt II, and his brother Reginald “Reggie” Claypool Vanderbilt, the fourth generation. The former spent vast sums to retain the Vanderbits’ high society status while doing nothing to increase their fortune. The latter was a playboy and gambler who squandered his fortune on those pursuits. In addition the more and more descendants they had, the more the fortune was divided without anyone doing anything to add to it. Eventually, the money ran out. As it was mentioned in the video, George II’s legacy, Biltmore, is one of the few remaining examples of the Vanderbilts still at their height.

It was interesting, Anderson definitely qualifies as a “forgotten Vanderbilt” but until he wrote his book, he never really acknowledged that heritage. It’s hard to think of him as a Vanderbilt decedent. George was kind of forgotten because he left the New York jetset behind and made his life in North Carolina. George’s story was also truncated because of his tragic early demise but his legacy remains as one of the few examples of the Vanderbilt dynasty in its height of power.

There's definitely a good argument for that. Now, is what happened post Biden-Trump debate as impactful as Lincoln-Douglas, or Kennedy-Nixon, or the others we listed? Remains to be seen. It could be said that the impact won't be known until November 5th. If Trump goes on to win, well...I'm not sure the course changed all that much other than the opponent he defeated. He was on track to beat Biden. If Harris wins - that changes everything and it surely would rank the Biden-Trump debate as one of the biggest game changing debates.
