There's not always a need to bother the school system if the kid is sufficiently motivated. In a similar situation, I just gave my math-interested son, who we were home schooling for grade 8, my old first-year university Calculus textbook. A year later he's most of the way through that, and about to start on a good Abstract Algebra text I found. He's understandably bored in grade 9 math, but using school to make friends his own age.

My sister married into a family like this. A large traditional family where the children and women eat first and the men eat last. I asked my brother in law why they did this and he said if the family doesn't have enough food for the children and homemaker, then the husband has failed to be a provider and doesn't have a right to eat. The idea behind it is his hunger will encourage him to work harder to be a better provider.

This is a culture thing in my family and our culture the men are fed first their plates are made for them by their wives if they are un married then they make their own plate before the wives make plates for the children.

Any "provider" knows they eat last. Always make sure everyone else has food before you get yours. That's how the traditional role works, so deal with it if you want the trad life with a trad wife.

OK, on one level this sounds like a silly argument but that's because I've never been in this large a family. That aside, what kind of childish t**t is brother in law anyway? He's a grown man, he's not going to starve to death in whatever trifling amount of time it takes to get the kids squared away. If the kids are constant brats and it takes longer than necessary, that'd be a separate discussion about poorly raised kids.

In my family, you fix the kids plates first, the elders soon after and everyone else just fix their own plate in order of arrival. A scene like that would be brushed off as childish. You are a grown man, fix your plate and eat without making a fuss.
