Bonneville 2024 Saltinator 155mph hot intake temp run
มุมมอง 73หลายเดือนก่อน
This was the first run of the 2024 season. We experienced a loss of power above 150 MPH that we hypothesized was due to intercooler ice tank slosh causing vapor-lock of the intercooler pump. The calibration is designed to reduce power and protect the engine when intake temps rise; which is exactly what happened here. Since this was still faster than the record, we took it to impound and did wha...

Bonneville 2024 First Qualifying Run
มุมมอง 1912 หลายเดือนก่อน
First run of 2024. Ended with a 155mph run and a problem where power fell off in mile 3. We later found that we had an intercooler air-lock problem and the protections in the calibration pulled spark to protect the engine. This was remedied the following morning. Although problematic, this run was still faster than our record run last year, so we went to impound.

Did not align them, just installed them and took them for a test drive. Alignment could be slightly higher I think maybe but I'm going to leave it like this until I see the reaction of other drivers. So much better than the old sealed beams. low beam is much wider and brighter with less hotspots. high beam is like daylight compared to the old ones.

    Unscrew your centerpin and use it to bolt the shim to the bottom of your leaf pack. Now the centerpin head (bottom side) can do what it normally does without the shim in the way.

      I opened the trigger switch and swapped the terminals around too. The switch opens easily by levering with a sharp blade. It isn't glued closed or have any clips. It worked a treat without needing to solder anything. I have the DMP180, just like the OP. I did need to bend the terminal by a few degrees though to avoid a clash with one of the screw points. Thanks for the inspiration @byronrace

    • @byronrace
      @byronrace ปีที่แล้ว

      My video skills suck, but yes...it's a rapidly accelerating fun machine now, thanks for the great engine! I can only imagine what this would do with a high-rpm capable flywheel and a stronger rod with no governor and a bigger carb/less restrictive exhaust. It would be a holy terror. As-is, if I put a final chain drive on it to gear it up, I have no doubt it would do 30+mph, which is about 15mph faster than you should ever go given the brakes and center of gravity. It's a lot of fun.

  • @DuroMaxPower
    @DuroMaxPower ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome Engine swap! How did it road test?

    • @byronrace
      @byronrace ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! I left the engine governed and I'm using the factory carb/jetting with that low-dollar filter kit stuck on the end of it, and the exhaust is going through a very long pipe and a restrictive club-car muffler. The gearing is the same as a factory club-car, so at the governed RPM, the top speed is 15mph. However, due to your lovely 440cc engine, that's 15mph straight up a 15% grade or 15mph on the flats...which is exactly what I wanted. Also, 15mph is about the limit for being able to let someone else drive this thing without a rollover, so I don't intend to change it. The acceleration is outstanding compared to the stock 290cc engine. It's 0-15mph in 1 second on pavement; very fun to drive. Starts easily, idles smoothly, couldn't be better...and the price is amazing; quite a value. Thanks for the great engine.

    By tomorrow it will be fine to drive on to retrieve your trailer. Been there many times in the same conditions. Only Bozos get stuck and can’t get out. It takes a lot of driving to make it soft on salt. The thinner parts where you can see brown from thin to no salt are to be avoided.

  • @jamestone265
