Simple answer. The builder/owner of a restaurant hires a manager and give that manager all powers to run the restaurant. The manager does not own the restaurant. The owner that built the restaurant and set it up still in charge, but he/she gave authority to the manager to run it. How dumb can people be.

But here is what the Lord led me to check after inquiring of Him today. When Stephen was murdered, he did exercise this power to forgive. He did not say to the people "You are all forgiven". Instead, he cried "Lord, lay not this sin to their charge." This power to forgive is only effective because of the Holy Spirit (John 20:22), and by asking the Lord for it.

Hence the statement " I and the Father are one ". Yet , this applies to all of us, in truth , because God ONLY creates in His own likeness, as eternal spirit. Hence the teachings " you shall know the Truth, and the truth shall set you free " And " you will realise that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you ". The realisation of our non - separation from God IS the Kingdom of Heaven, which Jesus said is within us.
