It is called the Viola. The viola is distinguished from the Violin by the certainty that the viola player is to be found either tuning their instrument - or playing out of tune. So, give them a break! (I was made privy to that gem some time ago as an inside joke.)

I think viola jokes are quite silly. However, for people who enjoy that kind of humor, here are two more. 1. Why do people take an instant dislike to the viola? It saves time. 2. What's the difference between a violin and a viola? A viola burns longer. ​@@_____725

We are great fans of him as humble musicians and his performance for Corelli's Op.5 is very educational for us. I discovered Pachelbel through the Canon in D. Then, I began to dabble and discovered many other works, like this exquisiteness. Now I almost forgot about the Canon, without denying that it is a beautiful work as well.

@@patricioerrico4048 Not to diminish the glory of the Canon to make us familiar with Pachelbel. After all, I know him from the same piece. It's just sometimes strange to so how it overshadows so many of his other pieces.

Without getting into cultural attitudes toward pieces in minor keys (which I think there is a prejudice against, at least in the US), this particular one sounds cold and bleak and icy to me. It sounds like the sun rising after a very long winter night over a bitterly cold expanse. That's not to say I don't hear great beauty in it.
