Ed Parker Seminar with Steve Hatfield 1987
Seminar hosted by Lee Wedlake. Mr Parker was demonstrating how to expand the variables from point of origin and to recognize weapons and targets. This is only a piece of the seminar we managed to video tape.

I had the occasion to meet this man at a seminar I had attended for another martial artist, and when time to train, we agreed to partner up. The drill was a very complex joint lock technique and as we were practicing, I was just a little confused on certain dynamics

Al, with just a few words, had me moving at lightning speed. This happened throughout the beginning of the seminar, where his calm approach was almost hypnotic. The actual "star" of the show, who will remain unnamed, saw us training and commented on Al looking familiar.

Turns out he was a fan of weaponry and recognized Al from years ago on the other side of the globe where apparently al had been hired a an advisor on a clandestine video shoot involving some sort of techniques for special forces of that region.

I can only assume it was something to do with this "hypnotic yet explosive" force thing I had experienced earlier. Immediately the host of the seminar began bowing to him upon realizing himself who this guy Al, was. I was totally confused but then the guest artist also began bowing and kneeling while chanting some catchy little mantra.

The whole group stopped what they were doing looking confused since the guest was seemingly mesmerized with my "partner".Once the drills continued, a new energy seemed to fill the room, and by days end I personally felt like another person, totally invigorated and stunned. Mr. McLuckie disappeared shortly thereafter and no one seemed to know where he went, so if anybody reading this knows anything about Al McLuckie, please share.

@clearcombat MMA is incomplete actually: Fouls The following acts are universally considered fouls in the mixed martial arts world: Headbutting Eye gouging Hair pulling Fish-hooking Attacking the groin Strikes to the back of the head and spinal area (see rabbit punch) Strikes to, or grabs of the trachea Small joint manipulation (control of three or more fingers/toes is necessary) All of which are a part of Kenpo.

At this time it was great stuff, but Kenpo has not improved. MMA is a complete system for the street and the ring.

Thank you or sharing a glimpse into the Ed Parker past as he visited the Hatfield school. Looking back on those few moves, from the perspective of 2010 it seems so basic now. But I'm sure at the time, the idea of continuing to attack areas with a single move must have seemed genius. Ed Parker is still a genius in my view.
