EDISHER GARAKANIDZE WORKSHOP AT CLARENDON 1997 GEORGIAN CHURCH SONGS
Filmed by Jeremy Finlay.
A workshop with Edisher Garakanidze in 1997, 23 years ago! The singers have never heard Georgian music, few had at that time. We had asked Edisher to teach Church songs, not realising their difficulty and intensity. He taught 4 songs in 2 hours. After the filming ended he offered apologetically a joyful wedding song which perfectly relieved the tension.
This was one of Edisher's earliest visits to the UK after appearing at Giving Voice Aberystwyth . It coincided I believe with a session at the National Theatre workshop, preparing actors for a version of Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle with Georgian songs. We organised a second visit the following year but it was never to be as he was tragically killed in a car accident in Tbilisi shortly before the event.
Edisher's work in this session remains a benchmark for teaching Georgian songs, even though the climate has changed dramatically as singers have adapted to the genre with new visiting teachers (Edisher's pupils from Tbilisi Conservatory) and visits to Georgia.

'MEETINGS WITH REMARKABLE MEN' AN INTERVIEW WITH PETER BROOK

Peter Brook explains the new 'Director's Cut' version of the original film made with Madame de Salzmann.
The search will lead you to the realization you're just a bag of molecules. Remember, G said "I want to know science". They say your better off not knowing, its true, why do you want to realize all your thoughts, feelings, etc are nothing more than chemical reactions? Its interesting people realized this thousands of years ago.
I have watched this movie 30 times (not exaggerating)! It was so wonderful and so much wisdom!!!❤❤
a remarkable man in search of the truth , you took us with you , thank you🙏
the duel with canons scene with should be removed and those pretentious English accents. Otherwise good film
Thank you for the wisdom.
It was a special film for me, but I didn't know about the "diector's cut". Thank you. A great film nevertheless.
The SEARCH leads to the DISCOVERY that the JOURNEY is NEVER-ENDING and WITHOUT BEGINNING.
Those wiseacrings are about as useful as saying the sun goes down and comes up again Which clearly shows you have no idea who needs guidance and therefore are not able to guide anyone anywhere
@@gratefulkm You still drinking a bottle of rum everyday? lol
@@gratefulkm By the way, WISEACRINGS is NOT an actual word, but FOOL, is. rotflmfao 😜
@@TRUTHorSTFU Wiseacrings come from the same time in history, When Satan meant emotions :) It seems you know very little of what you or they speak How do you know if someone really needs help, Tell me a physical manifestation that appears in those that need help ? And I don't mean they IMAGINE they need help
@@gratefulkm OMFG Who in hell raised you? 😜 Pigs? No. No. HOGS! Pigs have some sense!!!! 😂
Thank you, Peter The search never ends
It does end. It’s called enlightenment where you discover there was nothing to search for. You had it anyway.
🌾🌱💚
Thank you so much for doing this film, Mr. Brook!!
Fly high , Mister Brook . You are already missed . 🕊
Thanks! I didn't know there was another version of the film. Is it something new? How to know? Where to find the film?
Predrag Nikolić itunes has the Directors cut. It doesn't sound like a radically different film - just one that has been tweaked a bit.
