On The Rivet
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ส.ค. 2006
Do you love Zwift racing and cycling IRL? My name is Nathan Krake and I'm an avid Aussie Zwifter and I love racing. Watch my videos to learn about Zwift, what it is and how you can win races.
On The Rivet is a cycling term meaning to give maximum effort. When a rider is pressing hard they will scoot forward on the seat to press on the peddles with their hips over the peddles. This is apt metaphor for many things we experience in life and sometimes we find ourselves on the edge of our seats, trying our hardest. On The Rivet is where I record my races, experiences, who I am with, what I see and who I meet.
My children, Benjamin (Ben) Krake and Claudia Krake are my inspiration.

Some strong sprinters going quite long, good race!
Good ride. They got the jump on you in the last 500m 😢
Thanks mate.. my sprint timing needs a tonne of work..
@@OnTheRivet just a little too late reacting to the few that went. You’ve got good power 👍
Nice work! 🎉
Only stopped pedalling a couple of times and on the downhill.. but happy with that otherwise..
Nice clean race that 👍
When do you sleep
Sleep is for the weak!
I watched this video and used your attack strategy on the first hill. I managed to get a podium finish and recorded it for YT on my channel.
Oh wow.. send me the link 😀
Fantastic ride!!!
Amazing to watch mate. Welldone on 4th. 💪
Good stuff guys 👏🏻👏🏻 That was a tough race !!
That was fun to watch!! Well done boys!! Having just finished my very first TTT it was nice to see how it was supposed to be done, learned a lot.
Thanks mate. Get your captain it check out zwiftgopher.com/TTT/ for the next one - its really helpful. And having a DS in discord is also really helpful. Other than that, its just biting the bar tape for 35 mins. How did you go?
@@OnTheRivetwell I did 2.9w/kg for our effort. A great learning experience. We started with just 5 riders, lost one after just 10 minutes. Then our 4th was having a few issues so we slowed to try and get him back in the group. So it was a fairly easy TTT for sure. I like how you guys did longer pulls. We were swapping out every 30 seconds which just seemed to cause a bit of chaos for newbies. Lots of good info though to make the next one much better.
nice one , you guys can defo be quicker , better paceline and Dalton with his breakaway attemps , no one was screaming , cmon , well we managed also 2nd place with just 5 , had only TT Mascot as DS while racing , hehe that was fun
Yeh, I think we did pretty well, given that it was the first race of the season and we had a mixture of weights in the team - not that it influences the power to much, but still harder for the lighter riders to sit behind Brodie and I for a full minute and then take a turn. Overall, we had a plan of aiming at 42km/hr avg and we got 41.6/7 so we did really well. What was your time (and congrats on 2nd)..
@@OnTheRivet 33:52 , i made the TT plan gave 3 guys 30 sec pulls , 1 was on 20 sec and myself at 60-90 sec , decided to give the 20 sec guy a rest after Aquaduc for 5 km so he could pull again for the last 6 km , we had a decent paceline for max recovery , speed was +43 kmh average , not bad at C1
Try being in Div 1B LOL....... i died so hard & multiple times hahaha... gonna watch your race now buddy!
Hey DV, yeh that doesn’t sound like much fun. What time did you do the race in?
Just finished 1hr ago @OnTheRivet
@@darrenvandit Will check it out..
Great racing guys. Is that Huddo shouting instructions?
Yes sir.. Huddo was our DS, keeping us ordered and in check. That baritone voice of his was worth at least an extra 50 watts each. We finished 2nd overall by 20 secs
@@OnTheRivet I thought i recognised it. Amazing job, smashed it. Well done everyone.
@@RyanCondon TTTs are always tough and often aren't practiced enough. there is a real knack to pacelines, especially when there are bumps and rollers. Its a shame you aren't in the series as well, it would be very interesting to hear your take on it as someone that hasn't done this kind of team racing yet..
What did I miss
Me groaning like a cow giving birth..
@@OnTheRivet I’m sure it wasn’t that bad
Ouch !!
Great podium, looked like a strong group at the final Brae, but then the gradient made the difference!
Yeh mate, 1st and 2nd were on different levels.. but happy to take 3rd behind them.. cheers
Nice one Nathan - I gave it a lash yesterday but landed the Anvil as last PU, all 5 that finished in front where firing off feathers (and were all 5-10kg lighter than me already 🤣) on an uphill sprint finish - but I was just happy to be in the front bunch. Great course. Are using OBS to get that nice glow around you? I like the effect.
Oh wow, that’s super unlucky with the PU.. even more difficult when the weight isn’t on your side. I like to stomp that last climb up, but with that break away attempt, I was gassed.. yeh I use OBS with the glow plugin for the little outline.. so you like it?
Nice podium effort there Nathan!! A 🥉 place with some good suffering is always welcomed. Think now I’ll give this one a go tomorrow. Well done!!!👏🚴💪
Cheers mate.. good luck and let me know how you get on..
Great effort mate. 💪
Thank mate.. for legsnappers for fun. When are we doing the next race together?
@@OnTheRivet Im avoiding you like the plague. Youre new found increase in ability will not do anything for my motivation in Cat C. 😆
Great job!
Thanks Brian.. tough race.. difficult but happy to come in behind the 5th best C grader world wide and the 3rd best in the Netherlands..
Nice podium Nathan! You're that cat C rider that ruins any hope I have of staying with the lead pack in races. :) That attack up the climb at the end of lap one destroyed the pack. Great vid, your progress is very impressive.
Thanks mate.. it was just one of those things where in I think in terms of Texas Holdem' - don't let them see the flop for free. When I am feeling strong(ger) I want to make sure that there aren't too many free loaders. Anyway, it was a great race and I came 3rd behind the 5th best "C grader" in the world and the 28th best (Peter) so hard to be upset by that.. (I'm ranked 455th..)
@@OnTheRivet they need to be in B then. 😅
Great result man!
Thanks Rob - tough race, but we kept everyone honest!
Well done Nathan
Thanks Doom - saw your comment onscreen, were you floating around or getting ready to race this one?
@@OnTheRivet I raced same time 😀
Cheers thanks Nathan won it on the last leg snapper.
Oh wow, yeh couldn’t stay with you guys on that last climb. Although got close to you in the last 2kms.. bloody well Done!
Id need like a beach cruiser seat if I’m doing this lmao
Have you tried out indieVelo yet? I would love to watch some of your videos on that platform! Upcoming series races are the indieVelo Grand Tour and the Heroica 3 👍🏻
I have done a couple - if there were more races I could join in, I would. Let me see what is coming up and I’ll see what I can do.. thanks for watching g
@@OnTheRivet FriYay time slot 2 is really good - especially in Pen 1. Also the Tuesday Sprockets Smash is great!
Very helpful, I’m still struggling with what software/application you use to for editing. Also, are you filming yourself with a camera simultaneously while you’re recording your Zwift ride, or overlaying it in the editing process?
The pain is real. Never give in 💪 and all that 😮 Cool you man enough to pack it in when u not feeling it tho’. Besides you can always delete this before Rob clocks it.
Nah makes for good conversation when he does..
@@OnTheRivet have to love the banter 🥰
Tough night mate. That’s a hard climb at the front went sub 8mins up Box!
Thanks mate.. yeh head and heart weren’t in it.. just gave in, which I have been doing a bit of lately.. anyway, gotta just keep my chin up and keep punching away..
@@OnTheRivet for sure, keep smashing it champ. 10 more races and I’ll be drafting you
Should have bluffed it, like the trainer disconnected 😮
Haha.. maybe, but it’s ok to let go once in a while too, after all we are riding in a Make believe world for imaginary points, can’t take it too seriously all the time.. ❤️
To be fair, you didn’t completely roll home and that shows a cracking level of commitment. 💪 🚲 Every race I do, 5s in, I am thinking, “…what am I doing? Why am I hurting myself like this?” 😂
Thanks Simon - yeh, its a rare individual that routinely forces themselves to endure prolonged periods of pain.. Life decisions eh?
You did a perfect final sprint. it can't be done better! Great work! 💪🏻💪🏻👍👍
Thanks Tomi. I was good to take something positive away from the race. Have you done this one yet?
@@OnTheRivet I'm riding this race tonight 18.12 local time UTC+3. Let's see how my fitness is..? I've been on diet and I hope I have enough energy. The track is too familiar.. 😁 We drove in the 2022 Herd summer series in one race as a points race and 10laps. 🥵🥵
I feel like you give up mentally before you do physically. Haven't watched a lot of your streams, but it seems a repeating pattern, something you definitely need to work on ;-)
Hey Jes, I try and work on that every day. Sometimes I do ok, like in last Thursday's The Chop race and other times its different.. But thanks for watching..
I saw a bit later sounds like you had a hard day, so sorry if it sounded a bit flippant. You did well in the second group :)
This was a tough one
Thanks mate.. yeh, it was 4 x tough.. will have to try again.. hahaha
Valiant effort! This new arrangement of the groups has made these races a bit more insane. I rode the 285-385 the other day, I WAS at 372 at the time, but i came in 11th because every other rider in the race was holding mid 3s to low 4s w/kg on their 5m efforts. I can barely hold 3 w/kg for 5 minutes yet i was at the top of the points range. I’ll try again, but i think someone pushed a bad software patch for these points races… either way, great video, great race!
ThE kRaKeN oooooph 😅
Great race mate and made the B and A's really have to work hard to catch you guys.
Thanks mate.. it was tough race but overall a good result. Just didn't have enough to stay with As and Bs for the last 500-600m
Well done Nathan. Tough chop!
the physics on mywhoosh is the worst ever... even zwift in the very beginning when it was still a beta was better.
I'm not looking forward to 2 big digs on this.
Great race! Perfectly executed, always in the right position... I should have stuck with you to the end! Looking forward to the next time we can race together.
Thanks mate.. I tend to feel guilty in races like those, did no work on the front, just made sure I was on the right side of any gaps and then a short sprint at the end (barely touched 800) anway, a wins a win! Lets do it again!
Outstanding! Good one.
Aww thanks very much.. happy with that race, but would have been good to do it 1 or 2 more times.. The August schedule is not going to be kind to me at all..
Nathan, it wasn't even close to being the last one. Now just to ride more B races. Great job mate! 💪🏻🫡
Yep, next B race will be on Tuesday night.. #sob
KABOOOOOM!!! Great racing, man!
Thanks Rob
Awesome stuff mate
Cheers Doom..
deactivating ERG before the sprintsegment might work and change it to an 1 min all out effort without any watt target , good effort
Thanks.. I think I will change it to be a free ride for 30-60secs straight after the sprint.. thanks for watching by the way..
You said I'm near the top of Cat D and so after today's race, I got bumped up to Cat C!
Great effort mate. Shame you couldn’t push on after that damn hill on the second lap. Great effort
Thanks mate.. will try again tomorrow
Looks good, but I'm not interested in racing in a field of mostly bots. You had a group of 60 riders at the start and I would venture to guess no more than 5 of you were real people.
Nice effort despite the disappointment, Nathan! 🎉 Not a favourite course for you 👈
I probably wouldn't use erg mode in the sprint, "free ride" blocks are probably the go-to there, otherwise it's more like doing a lifting session.
But I know that if I don’t “lock” myself into pushing 800watts (or attempting to) my legs just won’t ever get there by themselves.. I guess I’m trying to train my legs and brain to know what 800watts for 20-30 secs really feels like
Its funny how your warm-up at 170w is 3w shy of my max FTP! lol
Haha.. horses for courses.. are you a lighter rider?
@@OnTheRivet i'm 68kg and only started about 8 weeks ago
@@theonlyketan thats awesome mate.. 2.5w/kg FTP would put you right at the top of D cat? How are you finding Zwifting, enjoying it so far?
@@OnTheRivet I love it and am pretty addicted to it. Confused about whether to race, do climbs for the Tron bike or get all the route badges! Just having fun doing whatever I feel like with no structure or thought.
