Teaching my Baby Woodworking
As a dad the most important thing in my life is my family. I want to watch my daughter grow up and enjoy every second of it. I also want her to be challenged and experience new things and that is just what woodworking can do in her life. I want to introduce her early so hopefully she will learn to love it and we can enjoy woodworking together!
This video is timestamp in my daughter’s life and plan to do this every year in December! I hope y’all enjoy because I sure did love having her in the shop for the day.

In this video I go over how I accidentally overbooked myself and made 1000 dollars in sells in less than 24 hours. I made custom name puzzles with my Xtool laser engraver and these sold so fast. This is a very simple product and super easy to make. In this video I go over how I made these, how to market them, full price breakdown, and mistakes I made along the way. Hope you enjoy the video, if ...
The best use for scrap wood!
มุมมอง 595ปีที่แล้ว
I turned scrap red oak into a custom vanity for our bathroom. I used wood bleach and turned this red oak into what looks like white oak. This finish is super easy to use and cheap. I made reeded shaker style doors that look complicated but it’s pretty easy just time consuming. I hope you enjoy the video! #custom #woodworking #redoak #redtowhiteoak #diy #vanity #scrapwood #make #build #furniture

EASIEST Way To Make A FRENCH CLEAT Wall!
มุมมอง 37Kปีที่แล้ว
French cleat walls are a staple in every TH-camr’s shop so here’s mine! This project was made out of 1 sheet of ¾ plywood and some scrap pieces of leftover plywood I had laying around the shop from other projects. This is the perfect project to use up some of the wood we woodworkers love to hold on to. This is THE project you have been saving all those little scraps for. Measurements: Plywood s...
EASY Custom Shop Cabinets with Organization
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video I fix 2 major problems in my shop by making custom cabinets for each problem. The first smaller cabinet I made is specifically designed to hold a medium sized can of stain but yet be slim enough that it does not get in the way of the mini spilt or the jointer. Then the second cabinet is designed to be as big as possible and hold the small parts organizers in a center divided secti...
Reclaimed Wood Mantel w/ EASY Miters

Don’t be scared of 45 degree miters! 45.3 degrees is the magic setting. I show you how to build a custom mantel out of reclaimed shiplap with 45 degree miters. The lumber for this project is all recycled lumber from an old cafe so this project cost me nothing! These boards had so much character and my goal was to save as much of this character as possible. This is an easy build to work on 45 de...

How to make a modern console table on a budget. This build came in at under $100. $35 for lumber and $60 for all the finish which I only used a little bit of each. How To Build A Corner Entertainment Center With A Fireplace // Easy Built Ins

A few days ago I saw the splash screen of this video. Without watching, I jumped up and told my wife I can make that for our granddaughter. Went out to the shed, made it, she loved it. Since then I've had to make three more and I don't advertise very well. I don't have a laser so I did it on the cnc. I have one sitting on the bar right now waiting for my aunt to come and pick it up.
@@iwannaapple7190 I have sold so many of these it’s hard to keep up with the orders! Many people will buy one and then order more when they get them
@@grovebuilds Thx for that. Where do you advertise?
@@iwannaapple7190 just Facebook and word of mouth. Luckily I’m in the age group where everyone is having kids so they are a hot product right now

great work, man!! super cool to see it come together

Been looking for a way to hang my canvases while working on multiple paintings. One of my favorite artists uses a French cleat for all his work, but I wanted to see it implemented in a larger space. Came across your channel and now I will be doing this in my tool shed as well. Very good explanations and custom uses! Thank you so much!
Nice but think about safety eye wear. You have hearing protection but not eye protection.
A+
Bro, plywood must be free in America! Dear lord just a sheet of crappy birch plywood will run you $230 a sheet here in Sweden! Awesome wall though. I might just go with 2x4 for the wall cleats and then make the holders out of MDF and just paint everything in a dark grey.
@@HaasGrotesk I get mine for $55 a sheet at my hardwood dealer. Your plan sounds good too!
Puppy Inspector!!😀😀
My suggestion to simplify the glue up.. make a jig. Place the bottom piece in. Glue the top. Place it in. Have a clamp at each end and a top board to be used as a caul. Glue is most easily cleaned up when it’s partially set. At that stage you don’t need clamps. Just pop it out after ten minutes and clean squeeze out.
Great idea! I need to make a jig to speed up the glue ups
so where did u put ur xbox?
On the shelf behind the TV but it’s a pain to get to. I recommend using a TV mount that the tv can move out of the way to get to the shelf easier
Definitely a cool idea man. I’m going to try to give it a shot. Make a little extra cash for Christmas 🫡
These are perfect for that! I’m doing the same thing right now
@@grovebuilds For sure, I made a couple last night. Only takes 9 minutes for my machine to cut them out. Just made a post on FB, hopefully it goes well! Thanks a lot for the idea, super original.
Just curious, what kind of machine do you use?
Looks really good. Nice job!
Thank you!
Nice work!

No glue?

Are the cleats you used for the tool holders the same size as the ones installed on the wall, if not what dimensions were they?
Yes they are! I used the scraps and left over pieces to make all my cleats. I would suggest making several extra cleats to use for in the future while you have your tools all set up.
Nope. Bad idea. They won't sell. Don't believe these click bait TH-camrs.
It worked for me!
Very nice and neatly done
Thank you!
Great idea! I'm truly impressed that you can do all that cutting with the laser and it's not charred to death on the sides. that's where I struggle with wood. its always got nasty soot all around the edges.
The 5mm pine cuts really good on the laser. Some charring on the sides but not bad! I’ve tried other woods but they char too much like you said.
I'd been making these for years on my cnc. A bit of advice on the glue up use a mix of wood glue and ca glue in key areas. this allows you laminate the two board before the wood glue sets allowing you to avoid fussing around with clamps.
I’ve thought about this and want to try it, I just have no experience with ca glue. I really need to try it out though!
love that trick...works well.
I call BS - there's hundreds of these listed on Etsy. Everyone who tries to jump on the get rich quick laser bandwagon is going to be frustrated, pissed off, and trying to sell that laser within 6 months. Nice video but pie in the sky dreaming.
I can honestly say this worked for me! I had 42 orders in less than 24 hrs and had to stop taking orders because I was overwhelmed. I recently posted I was taking more orders and had 15 more puzzles orders in a few days. Will this work for everyone? No but for people who are willing to put in the work they can make good money making these. This is how I did it and it worked for me. Take that for what it’s worth.
@@grovebuilds congrats on your success!
He’s already made his money, that’s why it’s on TH-cam. You have to be the first one with something no one has done before. They’re on Etsy all over the place now because someone saw his item and copied it, and they copied the copy, etc. so now he can post it on TH-cam and make the view time so it’s icing on the already baked cake. If you’re watching videos for ideas, you’re too late. That’s why you’re salty AF.
Why the little circles nest to all the letters?
@@roymccarty6931 that’s to make it easier to get the letters out. Gives you somewhere to put your finger to get the letters out.

Great Project, Great Breakdown, & All Together A Great Video! 👍 💯
Thank you!!
What are you using for a blade on your table saw to rip the 1x4 s? And also, how many teeth blade? Thanks
I use a Diablo 40 tooth general purpose blade. You can get them at Home Depot!
Awesome work! What power xtool are you using to cut through 5mm?
Thank you! I have a 10watt Xtool D1 non pro
Also you could use Baltic birch plywood and that would give a nice look as well. Great product!
I actually thought about that but I was worried about the veneer coming off with kids playing with them. Just my thought
Thanks for the video. Which model of the Xtool laser cutter do you have?
Xtool D1 non pro 10watt
@@grovebuilds Thank you!
@@grovebuilds I might have to try cutting some 5mm pine. I've been using basswood and plywood type wood but anything over 3mm my D1 Pro 10watt struggles with. I'm guessing because of the glue and pockets (inconsitencies) in plywood.
I would save time on the glue up phase by putting something heavy on top of it rather than messing with all those clamps. It doesn't have to be super heavy either, think 2 bricks end to end or another board as a weight transfer with a gallon paint can on top of that.
That’s a good idea! I’ll have to try it out
Great product for sure. I've been making puzzles out of hardwood with my CNC machine for a few years. I like your variant - i just might start offering a second option! Nice work!
Thank you!! I’m hoping I can add a CNC to my shop soon so I can start using more hardwoods instead of just pine on the laser engraver
@grovebuilds Yeah. You'll love it... I started the other way around. A CNC machine and then three lasers. It's a fun journey - knock out a few more puzzles then you'll level up again and again! 😀
Outstanding video. Whats the watts on the laser?
Thank you! 10watt Xtool D1
I have a 20 watt. What are your settings for the 10 watt. I'm guessing I could slow the power down for mine?? (Just beginning my xtool journey. So far, it's been rather bumpy. Lol. 😂)
@@RoHof86 I set my speed to 3.5 mm/s and my power to 90%. If you have a 20 watt you can probably speed it up and cut the puzzles faster
Okay I see you Cuzzin AJ! This was awesome! Super cool! 👏🏻 Love the bloopers…idiot…😂

Yeah man!!!!
Cut your strips to 3 1/2 …not 3 1/4
Sure what Ricki said!🤷🏻♂️
@@grovebuildsI did it yesterday..I messed up half a sheet doing your measurements..made the comment for ppl following your guide measurements..great video besides that and my wall looks great!
Why the 3” spacer? Why not 2 or 5? I’ve seen others go up to 8”, however I believe that would limit the amount of tool hangers.
That is what worked best as far as spacing for my wall. I wanted it to all be evenly spaced but 5 or 8 inches was too big of a spacing. I needed enough space for my cleats to slide in easy and 3 worked great for me. If you put them too close you won’t be able to slide your cleats in easily.

This is a really cool video. I built my tool wall before I heard of French cleats. I'm going to strip everything off of it and re-make it with these cleats. I've also started marketing French cleats as home decor. First time watcher; new subscriber.
You won’t be sorry you did it! My only regret with French cleats is not doing it sooner. Thanks for subscribing!!
Any issues with your mini-split HVAC and dust in your shop?
No issues with the mini split. It works perfectly but I do try to keep the dust to a minimum with my dust collection. I’ve made some pretty big messes and the mini split hasn’t messed up. I also clean the filter regularly and blow out the coils too.
these videos makes it look so easy. not everyone is handyman or has all the carpentry tools at home. thanks for the video. i wish i have tools like you do
This project can actually be made with pretty basic tools. Miter saw, table saw, skil saw and drill. People would be surprised what they can do if they take their time and try new things. Thanks for watching!
Dude. How thick is the plywood!
3/4 inch
Awesome build! I read a comment where you said that this is free standing. It seems like it would be front heavy, so what keeps it from tipping over?
Honestly I put a weighted vest that I never used to weigh it down but it wedges in the corner tightly after trim so you don’t need the vest
Guessing on the problems in the shop? The dog was involved in a saw accident and lost the bottom half of his legs? lol.
We don’t like to talk about that day!😂😂
Really nice workmanship! Great videographer, too.
Thank you so much!
Ironic that you are teaching us how to hang stuff on the wall while wearing an off the wall shirt!😂
Never even realized! That is ironic😂😂
Absolutely amazing brother!!
Thanks man!!
Would you have a recommendation on what plywood to use for the cleats? Thickness, grade, type, etc. Ive built several 'walls' onto work benches using very nice expensive plywood. But that'll get really expensive for the full wall inwant to. Especially since im putting it onto a concrete brick wall. That ill first need use fir strips and full.sheets of plywood before the cleats go on.
I personally used 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood. Plenty of strength and it looks good. Don’t buy plywood from Home Depot or Lowe’s, reach out to a local hardwood dealer and the plywood will be cheaper. The bigger the dealer the better. My local dealer has 4x8 3/4 inch plywood for $55 a sheet. If you don’t have any local hardwood dealer, try a local cabinet shop. Sometimes they order in bulk and will give you a deal.
OK great recommendations, that's a great price!
