The C60 by Comandante is a beast of a grinder with huge new Barracuda burrs. The 150% increased surface area means a lot more torque so we're keen to find out if the SkopeX motorizer has what it takes. www.madkatcoffee.com #comandante #comandantec60 #comandantec40 #coffeegrinder #manualespresso #coffee

Do you have dimensions for this eg height?
Good idea but for 300 bucks? Come on guys be realistic, no one will buy it at that price
Please tell me where can I buy this Comandante C60?
Thanks for the shout out Shauvik it's been a pleasure working with you and I am super pumped looking forward to getting your Madkat Skope on my bench for the C60 and greedy man that I am, I also ordered one for the ZP6 😮
How is the taste in comparison to kinu for pourover (kinu with both burrs > c40 in my perception)
I think the Kinu grinders are all excellent. I’ve tried the espresso burrs and they were a pleasure to use. I’ve tried the pour over burrs and they were some of the cleanest brews I’ve had although they did take a very long time to grind. I’d say the distinct characteristic of C40 is that sparkling acidity plus good sweetness which puts in such a great position as an allrounder. If it’s clarity (tea like brews) you’re after get the Kinu POB. If it’s just espresso, I think the Kinu espresso is pretty on par with the C40 except the C40 has a bit more in acidity. The Kinu does have better adjustment though unless you get the Red Clix for C40. If you’re doing both then the C40 could be the one grinder that does both. Espresso and filter call for two very different things which is why I just swap out between a filter grinder and an espresso grinder. :-)
@@madkatcoffee thanks :) but where would be the c60 in this comparison?
Oh of course! Ha! When it comes to espresso, C60 is in my books very hard to beat period, mainly because sweetness is so important in espresso. With filter, it’s a bit like different camera lenses for different things. I often find high clarity burrs to have more abundant acidity than sweetness so the C60 makes things a lot easier to get to a balanced cup without muddiness. But if it’s just clarity you’re after, Kinu POB and ZP6 are still probably the ones to get (I haven’t tested Pietro yet but I hear good things!), it’ll just take you a few attempts before you have a recipe/grind setting you’re happy with. I found myself switching between the ZP6 and the C60 because sometimes I wanted a clean lens to “see” the coffee but other times I just wanted a nice balanced cup. :-)
@@madkatcoffee sounds like the c60 is similar to lab sweet? And I already have lab sweet and kinu :)
@@johannesscheiber3193 Eyyy! Good for you man! You're pretty well set then I'd say! :-D Yes, closer to Lab sweet. A Weber Key is probably the closest thing to it. You'll notice a lab sweet in the background in the photos in the video. Yianni has run a bunch of comparisons with the lab sweet and the crazy thing about conicals at very low RPMs is how close you can get to flat burr profiles (think around 60RPM or even less) especially with something like a lab sweet that's trying to go for more sweetness. If you have the time, I'd try very slow grinding with the Kinu (maybe espresso burrs because the pour over burrs are a bit too slow i think :-D) and see how they compare with the lab sweet. Lab sweet will still present softer and more lingering acidity but you might be surprised at how much of a clarity boost you get just by slowing down the grind!
How much is the product? Collar and motorised stand?
is it also compatible with K Ultra?
Yes it is :-) We’ll also share 3D print files for the lock collar adapters so you can print your own if you’re able to!
Huh, that's a great idea. I'd love this idea more if it allowed the grinder to be angled 45 degrees to slow feed (unless that was already designed in the feeder) as it appears that reduces fines. I use a Kinu M47, so different compatibility options would be amazing.
Slow feeding is totally the way to go! In fact working on something along these lines! :-D The 45 degree is interesting in that it slows down feedrate but also creates a misaligned load on the burrs causing inconsistent grind size (this is from tests performed at Comandante). This is the main reason why we’ve kept the motorizer orientation vertical. The Skope X works with Kinu M47! We have an adapter for it that allows for quick swaps between grinder types including Kinu and 1ZPresso.
@@madkatcoffee Hmm... Interesting! I was wondering if there were a downside to angling the grinder. It's crazy how I've only gotten into coffee around January and I'm still seeing new data by the day.
@@GaMEChld Wowsa. You got in pretty deep for such a short time! Welcome to the rabbit hole! Yes, there are a number of good peeps running heaps of experiments and putting out great content and information like @LanceHedrick. Great time to be brewing coffee!

@justanerd414 yikes thanks for letting me know! Will make sure to check for next time!
Rock solid on the C60! That's massive, can't wait.
@tomsgrinderlab thanks for lending the C60 so we could test! Completely agree with you that it’s an awesome grinder. Benchmarked with a Ditting lab sweet and it did absolutely fantastic. Very hard to get deep bold flavours without adding muddiness and somehow the C60 manages to deliver! Looking forward to getting ours soon!
As a j-max owner I gotta know…
Hey @Anonymou5No1! We've had decent number of people ask about the J-Max so we'll definitely get a waitlist going for it! We've tested with the JX-Pro so shouldn't be an issue. Do you have access to a 3D printer?
Please consider shipping to Mexico
Looking seriously robust. That's a no-slip grip for sure. Looking forward to getting the Skope X.
Hi, the knocker can be retrofit on previous version of skope motorizer?
That is awesome! It would be amazing if in the future we could get more adapters, or 3-D print add ones to the adapters shipped with the Scope. That way it could support even more hand grinders!
❤️ Love this!
The answer to my problems! Great!
Cant wait🎉
wow, way cool :) looking forward to the kinu grind demo video
Coming soon!
Looks very sturdy!!!!
Looks good!! When will it be released?
when is this gonna be back in stock? I love my C40, interested in electrifying it.
I want to buy it, can it be shipped to Korea?
insane price lmao. make it $120 and you might find buyers.
Is it compatible with other grinders like 1zpresso?
Wish you guy will find the way to put back the knocker somewhere since some static may cause the grounded coffee stick at the bottom of grinder
Yea! Maybe a V.2 of this model? The other one is a little bit over the top. But maybe that part could be added...
Hi Tiyatat and alemholas! Thank you for your thoughts and feedback! While we enjoyed designing and using the knockers on the 1st version of the motorizer, we found that there was no better substitute for properly cleaning and maintaining the bottom of the grinder than with a brush. With the new Skope design we’ve emphasised quick and easy removal for servicing and maintenance so you can continue to use the Comandante C40 in the way it was intended, but with the addition of a motor for additional functionality. We will continue to explore and are open to new knocker concepts but for the moment we have no plans to include it in the design.
@@madkatcoffee that is a very good reason! Thank you!
Hi there, Madkat, cool product y'all have! Will this be able to work in 110v countries? Thanks!
Hey there! It sure does. :-) The included power adapter is both 110V and 240V compatible.
excuse me, how much is it?
Hi Edward. Current pricing is AUD 399. Feel free to check out more product info on our website at madkatcoffee.com!
@@madkatcoffee Hello! When will it be back in stock? Thanks!
Hi, I’m really interested in this motorizer! One question: can it grind espresso? Around 8th setting of C40. Also on your website all products are sold out. When will it be available?
Hi Jo Yuan Hsieh, Thanks for your interest! The Skope motorizer can grind down to 1 click setting. Eight clicks on the C40 won’t be a problem. Incidentally this video is a demo of grinding at eight clicks for both the regular clix on the Wenge Comandante and red clix on the Ironheart. Eight clicks on the red clix is the same as 4 clicks on the regular clix. We’ve sold out the initial limited quantity pre order. We’re getting things in place for the next pre-order sale and will announce the release date very soon. Feel free to sign up on our website to receive notification once the sale goes live. Cheers, Madkat Coffee
Any reason for removing the knockers you had on your older model?
Hi Khang Dang! Thanks for your query. We found that users could achieve a similar effect by tapping the side of the Comandante with their fingers. Please feel free to reach out for any further info. Madkat Coffee
