Sustainable Table/AFSA Solidarity Session - Addressing the National Abattoir Issue
A collaborative session, co-hosted by Sustainable Table and the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance (AFSA), addressing the critical National Abattoir Issue and working towards securing a future for small-medium scale livestock farming in Australia.
Speakers: Tammi Jonas (Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance)
The Problem: The consolidation of abattoirs, threats to small and mid scale farmers, and declining access to local, ethical meat.
Campaign Updates: Insights from AFSA’s campaign, including an e-petition to the Victorian Parliament and efforts to support alternative meat processing models.
Meeting Update: AFSA shares an update from their recent Ministerial meeting to discuss how the Victorian Government intends to respond to this issue.
Solutions in Action: Exploring collective models like Jonai Farms’ Meat Collective, tools to support small-mid scale abattoirs, and identifying State-based champions to drive national change.
This session was about more than identifying problems-finding solutions, building solidarity, and taking action.
