This is based off the theory that the little girl in his flashbacks is actually the original Marian before she became a Nikke. In my fanon, the Commander was in the hospital as a child due to constant experiments done on him by Ark scientists to see if he could become the host of the Rapture King. His life was even worse than Rapi's, with his only solace being the young girl he met one day... Marian... unfortunately, he had his memories of her wiped some time ago, as were hers when she became a Nikke, but they still subconsciously recognized each other, hence Marian actually snapping out of the Rapture corruption to save his life and why he took her death so hard... and why he wants to get his daughter back...)
