SIMPLE Articulated Streamer Pattern for Fly Fishing
Great pattern, nice tie. As always, great intro to new materials! Thanks
@genegorse312 thanks as always! Glad you enjoyed and glad I could introduce you to some new materials as well!
My dad Bob would love these!
@mellie5683 well, feel free share it with him! 😁
Hey, my name is Charlie❤ plus that’s also a sick fly pattern😊
@The_youngangler hahahah thanks Charlie! Glad you enjoyed! 😁😉
Great looking, simple tie!
My post just spins when wrapping the hackle. How do you avoid this problem?
Hey, what material are you using for the post?
@fischersflies just a thread post. Then tried span flex with a little better success
@janfrey3431 are you holding the post up with your finger in between the thread with tension?
Very nice! What kind of vise are you using? I love the clamp!
Thanks! I use a Regal Vise Hook Jaw!
@ Excellent. Thank you!
Nice bate man
@CodyWatson-pz2th thanks!
Nice Pattern! Thanks for sharing! I'm going to give these a try this winter at the vise.
Thanks! I'm hope you enjoy tying them and good luck!
Tough move; nice job.
@genegorse312 thanks!
I am enjoying your vids. Thanks for sharing. Keith
@keithcorodimas8093 thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying them!
How do you like that new Regal hook jaw for small flies as compared to the Regal stainless steel jaw?
@gregoneal1 I really like them! The hook jaws have replaced my stainless steel as my every day tyer.
That’s good to know. I was thinking about getting the stainless steel jaws for tying small flies, but I might go with the hook jaws instead. Landon Mayer told me at a show that he prefers the hook jaws, as well. Thanks for the info!
@@gregoneal1 you're welcome!
One of my most favorite flys to tye. And I love to fish'em. Good job Howie, nice tie.
Mine too! Thanks Daniel!
Howie! You’ve done it again! Incorporating unique materials into your patterns (this one I never heard of; shame on me I’m from NE PA)! Thanks for sharing more than great patterns - very generous!
Thanks again! Glad I can share an awesome company!
You are a great fly tier and teacher of the techniques used. Thanks!!
Wow, thank you!
Everybody blames the camera.
@anablakp3200 it's a real thing. 😅 when I shoot my camera is about 4 or 5 inches away from the fly. Trying to wrap hackle while trying to not hit the camera is tough.
Nice video! What is it about those jaws that make you bury the hook point in them?
@@gregoneal1 thanks! So, the hook jaws were designed by regal partly to do that to protect thread on small delicate flies and to allow you to have better access to the tail section on flies like this.
Interesting!
This fly definitely will catch fish!!!! I’m tying it, thanks!!
@@wvlongshooter3912 of course! I think so too! Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing, great ant pattern that i'll add to the box for next year.
@jimgillen5134 no problem! I don't think you'll be disappointed!
I always wondered why people like fly fishing. If you use a tiny bait, you’re gonna catch a lot of small fish. I’ve always wondered why people do it.
Simply not true. Many fish species around the globe subsist on insects and grow to be very large. Bugs are some of the most abundant and consistent food sources for fish, and fly fishing takes advantage of that.
@ yeah I know that I’ve always used a lot of small bats and never cut any big fish only like a few times and I fish at really big pond with the whole bunch of bugs there
@@Rediipandaiiur baits don’t look like bugs dude. Also trout are different u don’t fit fish for big bass. Big trout eat small bait mostly they don’t have huge mouths. It’s a different kind of fishing when u are trying to catch trout
You can catch plenty of large fish flyfishing as well!
Sweet; time to line my cupboards! Avidmax good company; do lots of business with them. Thanks Howie for great video and fly choice!
I agree! I like them a lot for sure. Great company and great customer service!
Amazing how fast tying is getting for larger format flies
@fishhandsfranky it really is! I think you'll like these materials. I think you should also check out the Craft Brushes from Fulling Mill too.
solid fly will catch loads of fish nice tie, I have been using just marabou nothing else and its super simple.
Nice! Yes, you can't go wrong with marabou at all!
Nice !! Short and to the point on tying that fly. Not spending 30 minutes to tie the same fly. Plus it looked really good !!!!
Gla you enjoyed! One of my goals is to be short but informative, so I do appreciate that feedback!
Nice looking patterns to return with!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Wicked!
Sorry for the delay, but thank you!
Pattern looks beautiful. How do you like to fish it? Floating line and twitched along the surface or sinking line and retrieved just above weed beds? I suspect both. You never mention the diameter of the Booby Eyes you use. Possibly you use different diameters depending on how you will be fishing the fly.
Sorry for the delay in responding, life has been extremely busy the last 2 months! On the trip I was using this I was fishing it on a floating line using mixed retrieves. The lake we were on has pretty good tall weeds so can't really use a sinking line/leader in the summer really. It did well and caught a handful of fish. The diameter I used on this fly was the 6mm foam cutter from Upavon.
@@fischersflies 👍
Gorgeous bug!!!! Thanks!! I love the Mayfly !!
@@wvlongshooter3912 I'm thankful it stood still for so long for me!
One of my go-to patterns I wouldn't leave home without. I tie mine 18-14 in yellow, black, green, and brown, use superfine to dub a body and a thorax, and skip the rib. I like my wings a litter smaller. So in essence, I suppose I tie a slight variant. But super picky tailwater trout on the Upper Delaware that are selective as hell eat this so long as it's dead-drifted. I fish mine during caddis or BWO hatches and they eat it just the same; it's more of a cross-dresser pattern as Kelly would say, looks like a midge, looks like a caddis, looks like a mayfly (sulphur in yellow, BWO in green, ISO in brown, etc.)... looks like an emerger, looks like a spent wing, a cripple, you name it. Floats insanely well too, you have to try to sink the thing. Nice tying instruction!
Sorry for the delay in response, things have been crazy busy lately! Sounds like that variation fishes just as well! I have always thought about dubbing or building up the body as the original version is super slim. I'll have to give that a try!
Nice One! Do you do it in any other colors?
Hey, sorry for the late reply, things have been super busy the last few months! Getting back on things now. Yes, I do all the typical colors in this Mini size. Tan, brown, green, etc.
Thanks for the video. Question: Does the UV cement that soaks into the threads and doesn't get any UV light ever get hard? It feels to me like there will always be wet UV cement inside the fly.
@neilfitch it depends on the scenario. In my experience the clear resin gets cured just fine pretty much. It's the colored resins that don't always get cured.
Have you found the hook jaw can replace the stainless totally for all your work? Thanks for all the videos.
Yes I have found that it has completely replaced the SS for me and is my daily tyer!
Very nice. Well tied.
Thank you! Sorry for the delay in response!
I found the website im excited to try that dubbing thanks
Sweet!
I want some of that perfect blend dubbing how can i get it?
Thank you and sorry for the delay in getting back to you!!
How much would you charge for these per fly?
Cool and fishy variation; George would approve! Interesting English material; I’ve been tying bugger-like patterns for years with sparkle eyelash yarns (craft store stuff) that is similar. Really cool vice! What is it? Nice job Howie, Thanks!
Looks kinda like an over complicated wooly bugger. But it is a good looking fly. Gonna have to tie up a couple.
Thanks Daniel! Aren't most streamers just over complicated Wolly Bugger's? lol
Nice idea. I starting to fly fish for them, how do you fish this fly pattern? Thanks!
Great tie. I like it. However, calling it a Duracell variation is a bit of a stretch. The only thing is shares that is the same as the original is the tail.
Thanks and sorry for the delay! Things have been busy! To your point, I did think about that as I was titling the video. The only problem is that if I called it something else people probably would have complained that it was just a Duracell with a different material lol
Beautiful! New trick (to me) with lateral scale tied in on sides, rather than flash over the top. Really enjoying your videos! Thanks!
Thanks! I appreciate that, and I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying my videos!
Nice and simple! Nice materials!
Simple indeed! Also effective! Glad you enjoyed!
Nice! Thanks John; thanks Howie!
You bet!
Beautiful! Great tip and technique with ice dub…very cool, thanks!
Thank you! Cheers!
Sweet! Simple and Deadly! Where do I get your blended dubbing? Thanks Howie, great video!
Hey Gene, sorry again for the delay! You can find my dubbing on my website: www.fischersflies.com
Great pattern, and new materials (to me!)! Thanks Howie, very helpful and enjoyable!
Thank you yet again!
Another great video and useful pattern! Very thoughtful and helpful tips and techniques I’ve not seen before (Why didn’t I think of that?!)! Thanks!! 🎉
Thank you! I am glad you have enjoyed! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! I have been insanely busy the past few months and am working on getting back on top of my youtube.
Howie, great job (with purpose), as always. Would love to see your take on a Murdich Minnow! Thanks for exceptional, and very helpful videos!
Thank you! I actually tied up some Murdich Minnows for a friend a few months back. I can add that to my list of videos!
Great video! That is a great way to put that type of bead on!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the tip! I hope it helps you in your tying!
How are you not famous that looks like something you buy in a store even better keep up the good work⭐️⭐️
I truly appreciate your encouragement and kind words! Thank you!
How does that lil nymph work during the summer months?
