This was the beginning of the end of Canada folks. Never forget how Ron McLean never spoke one word to defend his long time friend and co worker. I remember well when back in the mid to late 90’s when CBC publicly stated that they did not intend on renewing Ron’s contract and Don stood tall on his behalf which in turn the fans followed suit ( because of Don ) and CBC broke down and re signed him. Being fired for saying what he said is a disgrace... I don't even watch the intermissions anymore. if you were at a bar during coach's corner they would turn off the music and turn up Don so everyone could hear him.... he's truly missed. Ron MacLean did counterpart to him very well; he did what he had to do on the show. That was the most watched TV segment in Canada. Everybody, anybody may agree or disagree with Don Cherry's comments on his show, but one thing is sure; no matter what he said, Don Cherry shared to viewers of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada his passion for the game of hockey. Saturday nights won't be the same without him and Ron MacLean on Hockey Night in Canada. Don Cherry is a true Canadian legend and he shall be missed by all hockey fans from coast to coast. Hockey Night in Canada will never be the same without both, Don Cherry and Ron MacLean. Both of them should enter the Hockey Hall of Fame, if it's not already done yet. Both of them will be very missed by all viewers of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. Finally, I agree with Don Cherry: Everybody, anybody should buy a poppy and wear it on Remembrance Day to remember those who fought and died for justice and freedom worldwide during World War I and II. The reason he was fired is he alluded to the fact that the reason poppies don't get bought is because of immigrants. That people that come to this country don't care about Canadian traditions. Yes, Don Cherry backpedaled and made up a excuse that is not what he meant, but we all know what he meant. I lost all respect for HNIC when they cut Don Cherry. Our family always looked forward to the 1st intermission to hear his insightful rants. He always put a smile on my face! McLean showed his true colours by putting an end to a hockey tradition in their broadcasts that true fans enjoyed so much & ruined his reputation by turning his back on his friend
