Broadway Phantom of the Opera Press Reel

In this press reel I found contains images of the marquee, then a montage of the main songs, including a curtain call. 12 minutes, 8 seconds long. Features the Broadway cast from the January 9, 2006 performance: Howard McGillin - The Phantom Sandra Joseph - Christine Tim Martin Gleason - Raoul George Lee Andrews - M. Andre Tim Jerome - M. Firmin Anne Runolfsson - Carlotta Marilyn Caskey - M. Gi...
The love of my life. My Daddy. He warmed up every morning in the shower-one of my many fond memories. This was the role he dreamed of. He was a theater kid. People boycotted him because he was Black and Christine, white. This clip was timed for TV purposes. I saw it live three times; it still haunts me. 61 years old singing two shows a day, falling down trap doors…he had to step down because he contracted Shingles. But what he did with this role can never be undone. I love you Papa❤
I first encountered your father's music watching Benson and hearing him doing an incredible version of "Oh Holy Night" and was just floored. I had no idea he could sing! I've been a fan of his work and music ever since. Really love his version of "Send in the Clowns". Great man, sorely missed.
He put an elegant, powerful twist to the character.
When you realize Rafiki was a Phantom.
Michael nails the character - although in the book, Erik’s love for Christine Daaé becomes true and unconditional - and his love is undying even though unfortunately, he soon does die from a broken heart. And spoiler - Christine does return either shortly before or afterwards and leaves him with the ring he gave to her, which is found on his wedding finger years later.
Oooo goosebumps!!!
I got to see him in phantom of the opera
Michael Crawford is fantastic 👏 1:49
someone please leak the whole footage.
Sarah was Rose with Marcus Lovette as alex in the Broadway production of aspects of Love.
Oh my goodness, what a beautiful voice!
Awww Michael is absolutely darling.
I've been binge watching "Benson" and was thrilled with his voice in the few episode in which he sang.
This is the first time I've seen Robert Guillaume's rendition of MOTN. Thank you for posting it, I wish there were more recordings of him as the Phantom out there.
Ann Runolfsson was a tremendous Carlotta
he was historic
This is Living Proof! That There Was Much More To RG Than Some Silly Situation-Comedy Tv-Series That Was On Far, Far Too Long!
Wow and what a beautiful voice too....my favorite show...BENSON
Fun fact: in the 60's Guillaume was in a newly formed folk trio called The Pilgrims that Columbia Records put together as an answer to Warner's hit folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary when a barely known singer/songwriter brought a song to the studio that their producer was hoping to buy and release as the trio's debut single. But when the producer heard the demo sung by the singer/songwriter and his buddy he gave them a contract to record it themselves and The Pilgrims released their debut album "Just Arrived" without that song. The singer/songwriter was Paul Simon, his buddy was Art Garfunkel and the song was "Sound of Silence" 😮 There's a video of Guillaume on TH-cam singing another Simon and Garfunkel song "Bridge Over Troubled Waters"
So wish I’d been able to seem him perform this live.
I wish the same as well...
Her interviewing style leaves a lot to be desired.
Never heard him do Phantom. Great but one criticism and that could be the Directors doing. He's rushing it. Should be slower.
Can you sing it better? I think he sounds great. Everyone does not have to sing the same way. Where is your performance?
Dale Kristien made strange choices. A lot of people loved her for some reason. But I'm still bitter that as the first Christine I saw live, she had a weird voice and acted like a robot like she did in this video...
Agreed. She's like a bot
Alec Mons I like it and Love I like it for you and new by news welcome back and points of the return thank you for my support and thank you again
Come back the phantoms of the opera I need new show by Minnesota Minneapolis thank you
Despite this being a lovely performance I still cant get over 0:50 😂😂😂. Sennnnnnnse it, as if someone strung his vocal cords like a guitar
I like that delivery myself
I liked Robert Guillame, but he was in over his head here.
Yeah... he was. He wasn't the Phantom for very long. The Los Angeles production in the 90s was kind of phoned in, anyway. Phantomania was so strong that it would sell out whether or not the talent was good
@@AndrewMacLaine It sounds like the jealousy is great.
His performance was awesome. If you can do it better, please show us.
Agreed. Admirable effort but not sufficiently Phantomesque.....
The black hahnd. The black hahnd.
?
My right ear enjoyed this
😂😂😂😂
I think this cast has the most perfect chemistry in all Phantom's history in Broadway. Maybe not the best ones (although Howard is close to be...) , but definitely the best team! Joseph e McGillin works so perfectly together (even better than the Joseph-Panaro squad) , Gleason was their perfect Raoul (He'll be a great Phantom too, but THIS s his role!)
god, I REMEMBER watching this when it was ON.
I love finding these gems 💎 Flawless performance 💙
Lovely man
Well that was half-ass.
Well, you are totally wrong.
I love Huge Panara as Phantom
The first time I ever heard Robert Guillaume sing was on Benson. The episode was called, Solid Gold, in which the gang are in Las Vegas and Kraus and Benson are hypnotized on stage.
He aged kinda bad considering this was only 10 years after Some Mother’s Do Ave Em
14 years actually
He actually aged well.
❤❤❤❤❤
I always regretted that I never got to seem him in Phantom. Thanks so much for posting this.
Jane Paulette sounds condescending !
Joan
I saw the Phantom of the Opera four times he was the Phantom two of times, Dale Kristen was Christine all the times, would have liked to see Michael Crawford as the Phantom.
Robert Guillaume was my first Phantom. He had replaced Michael Crawford after Crawford left the Los Angeles production for the first time (he came back New Year's Eve 1990). Guillaume was wonderful. RIP sir.
Yes I heard him perform Phantom live too. The first major stage performance I attended in Los Angeles as a boy growing up in metro LA.
I was Davis Gaines. I used to walk everyday past the Ahmanson in Los Angeles and would see the Phantom poster marquee starting with Crawford, Guillaume and Gaines. Marvelous production!!!
Same here. Traveled from San Diego in high school to see the production. Not disappointed.
He was my first Phantom, too!
Oh what I would give for the either production in this professionally shot quality!
TY!
Well done.
Such a soulful singer and fine actor. We miss you Robert. Blessings to you in the hereafter.
He was so very talented. RIP Robert Guillame. Mom and Dad saw you in Phantom and never stopped talking about how wonderful you were. They'll be thrilled to see you in Heaven, but we are sure sad to see you go. Rest in Power, Sir Thank you for all of it.
REST In PEACE ROBERT GUILLAUME (1928-2017)
RIP😭
RIP ROBERT GUILLIAUME :(
