Episode 32: Curriculum Tip: How to Start Every Group Program
In this mini-episode, we’re diving into a critical yet often overlooked aspect of creating powerful group experiences and curriculum: Opening Content and Exercises that Build Engagement and Readiness. Whether you're leading a retreat, teaching a course, or delivering a workshop, how you start sets the tone for everything that follows.
Why is this so essential? Neuroscience and human behavior show us that even the most excited participants can lose momentum before the first session begins. By creating a "container" from the start, you help participants build investment, overcome resistance, and feel safe enough to engage deeply with your content. Without this foundational work, even the most compelling curriculum can fail to deliver its full impact.
Episode Highlights:
Start with Inspiration: Share why they’re here, why you’re here, and what’s possible through your program.
Clarify Intentions: Help participants identify their personal goals and assess their starting points.
Foster Connection: Facilitate early interactions to build community and engagement.
Create a Safe Container: Use proven strategies to prepare participants emotionally and mentally to receive your content.
Success in Action: A real-world example of how these strategies transformed engagement in a program for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Today’s episode is a mini-tip that is just one of seven transformative strategies I share in my free masterclass, The Transformative Power of Curriculum: Create a Program That’s as Powerful as YOU. If you’re ready to elevate your programs, definitely register to get that content asap:
