I too seen the donation dollar article and wondered what sort of moron would do such a thing, if it wasn't so serious it would be laughable. On replacement notes, with instances of damage post printing, in delivery and other reasons, damaged bundles of the same denominations have resulted in star and double star notes, where the replacement has been done on the return of the damaged items. I can imagine mishaps of all kinds, RBA to Commonwealth Bank, Australia Post and transport methods gone awry, the pay department of a large organisation had had their currency delivery partially or fully spoiled, necessitating the large number of notes being reprinted, resulting in some double star notes. I believe I'd read this in an article by Mick Vort-Ronald or in a Greg McDonald price-guide book.. I don't think I'm confabulating, but there's too many pages to look again through! We've viewed every last one, and I think it's worth letting the Facebook and TH-cam audiences be reminded they're there, with thumbnails that helpfully detail the many interesting subjects. Cheers to you both for these and your ongoing engagement with audiences, media, urgh, and the ecology, could I say, of the collecting bugs, buyers, sellers, traders, communicators, archivists, evaluators, historians of all kinds, and us many amateurs. As you've detailed, it often surprises what may come through the door, from the humblest or unassuming. I'm surprised you don't get more detectorist's finds, aside from raw gold, with rare and obscure early currency. Perhaps what's in demand of these kinds that you're interested in seeing may help bring these to light, or Mawson Lakes at least.

I would imagine not that much older currency is actually in the United Kingdom going by the number of visitors/tourist that visit each year. I know for sure I have some notes and coins stashed away away somewhere. Hope all goes well with your OP. Cheers Dave
