Orobas Tube VCA Module - Unboxing and Getting Started
Thanks for the demo.🎶😬
Nice one! Will there be any demos with synth and drum machines?
there absolutely will, once we're all back in town!
love the asthetic of your modules.. plus they sound great!
@@jockcooper8888 thank you!
That’s fire!
sounds soooo good. expect nothing less from you. absolutely love it.
just got mine today. this is so good. i ordered the Orobas II after playing with it for an hour. excellent build quality and component choice. Will an expander eventually come for the Coma Reactor?
Thanks a ton! About the expander, we're not sure - we did make a couple of different prototypes, but feel they fell way too short of the mark and still need work. We'll probably publish a guide to all the different headers on the backs of our modules for DIYers. Honestly, there's nothing on the expander header that you can't access from the front panel - we were just hoping to save a few cables :) In any case, we're not going to be doing anything till mid-2025 at least, there's a lot in the pipeline already!
@@AnimalFactoryAmplification thanks for the reply and understood. I was hoping for the abilities to modulate the resonance and the feedback, perhaps even the wet signal. Looking forward to see what’s new. Also I received the Orobas and it’s a beast 🐺
add some distortion and you have nice HC kick
always add more distortion!
this looks like a really really fun delay.... I must have it
Thank you! It's pretty crazy delay. Definitely not one for purists. Our next video is actually going to be all about just this module, maybe just with an SQ-1 or basic CMOS based sequencer, going completely berserk! Any suggestions for a better title than "Stupid Module Tricks"? :D
@@AnimalFactoryAmplification maybe something like “slick-ass tricks for dope-ass bixchez!!!”
Super nice and ordered. This textural delay should pair well with my Aurora. Also looking at the The God Eater.
Thanks! By textural delay, do you mean our Coma Reactor module though?
yes@@AnimalFactoryAmplification
What's the module at the bottom left?
From left to right: AFA Bonesaw, Godeater, Baron Samedi, Bastl CV Trinity, AFA Tannhäuser Gates
absolutely brilliant mate
🔥🔥
How portable would your rack be with this in it?
The same as it was before.
The same as before, no real changes. The module is not deep at all, just a single PCB thickness. You'll still need to power the heaters with the additional adapter, but that's it.
seeing a Deckard's Voice jam here is a surprise, but a very welcome one 😊
nice one!
Hello, I’m searching a module for 808s bass/bassdrum. I will just use it to make my own samples. Wich module or combo of modules you will suggest me? I was thinking about a Malstrom Mandrake or an SSF UltraKick or Erica Synth Bassdrum…help me please 🤣 I hate spending hours on a sub bass/ mono synth plugin, or spending hours by listening to every 808 bd of the folder…I wanna make it by myself and by my hand…I know every mono synth can do an “808s” but I will have just 80hp, and I prefer to have some “full voice modules” instead a plethora of VCOs, VCFs/EG/VCA etc etc etc. Thanks in advance. PS I need typical 808 bass, nothing so much esoteric/experimental.
We sadly can't offer any advice on this, we don't have any experience with any of these modules unfortunately.
Would love a direct-out Line recording of this, if you've got it! Baron really hit it home.
This ended up being so damn good - had me floooored when you brought that gloom melody back, I'd forgotten it had even come from that! Hardcore.
Martin Gore from Depeche Mode is using one of this in his guitar rig for this tour (and the Godeater too). I love the sound of this thing.
Thanks for the heads up! Without DM, there would have been no Animal Factory... <3 <3 <3 wish we could get a photo of that board!
The crazy thing about this pedal is th- HEY! IT'S ENRICO PALLAZZO!
I love those LED indicators and how they serve to accent the panel art, that’s so smart!! And I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen actual pots that light up aside from Korg stuff. I hope I can still find this.
We love them to! Really love to get functionality into our designs as much as possible. Can find the module from one of our retail partners here: animalfactoryamps.com/pages/worldwide-shipping If it's unavailable, can always buy it from our site if you're based in the continental US. :)
Definitly want to get me one of those. Can heat power be applied from underneath the module?
In theory yes you can! There is a header that breaks it out, but we do not really advice that since the inrush current that the heater circuit draws is really high and can cause your eurorack power supply to trip. But if your power supply is beefy enough it might handle it. :)
@@AnimalFactoryAmplification Thats great! then i'll just give it it's own dedicated power supply. Thanks
I own a baron samedi and I can sadly only say, your demo's don't do it justice at all. So I'm afraid this goes for most of your modules. Looked at the bonesaw too and the extra saus compaired to a regular filter is awesome but it lacks great examples... I love the screaming and diode sounding destruction in the distortion units but due to a (maybe it only comes across to me like that) poorly planned video it all desolves into a bunch of noise in the end. I'd like to see better structured demo's with better examples because the feedback and self oscillation on the baron samedi can be crazy good! ❤🔥
We're always open to suggestions on making better manufacturer videos. What would you like to see more of in our demos? If you have a demo video that you think is excellent, we'd love to see that as well as a point of reference. Thanks!
I don't know if there's a "perfect" video for all your modules but I think a clear rundown of all the features and the same step by step audio through for all your modules makes it a lot easier to distinguish the differences and easier to choose for customers. Divkid does this quiet nicely with the 100 grit for example. A large variety of sounds, patch examples and going through the features multiple times. I choose the baron samedi on just a very short part of a demo that broke kickdrums to bits but it can do so much more damage... @@AnimalFactoryAmplification
@@BITE_MECHANISM Thanks for the detailed reply! We'll take a closer look at our longer demos - to be honest this particular video was made specifically to demonstrate the basic character of the different distortions, so we chose a monophonic since for this purpose and some chords. We continue to work on smaller demos showing specific applications, but this is really good motivation for us to start zoning in on specific differentiating *features* of our modules. Thanks for that! We'll make sure to incorporate that into our future demos. All the very best from Mumbai.
Sure no problem, your modules are amazing and I think they deserve more attention @@AnimalFactoryAmplification maybe you can send a demo-set around to youtubers to review and demo your line-up. Not to give them all away perse but maybe they can choose one module with x amount of views or something?
Great!
It’s hilarious that we as humans search the end of the earth for ear hurting noise. I love it! I would love to do a review of this pedal… The available mods sounds fun…
Not sure what i have just watched but i loved it.....
.... Good fucking god this is fat. Like this was the demo I was looking for, for these disto units. But good fucking god these breaks are thick. As soon as I start buying modular, I am buying one of these units (or more) as my first disto/saturation. Wildly high quality sound.
Thank you so much <3 just so you know, the Baron Samedi is available in pedal form with retailers in the US and EU, the new Godeater pedal will see the light of day in early 2024 and a limited reissue of Godeater v1 (we were cleaning up found some Goya faceplates we thought we had lost!) is in production right now. Just in case you don't want to go down the Eurorack rabbit hole ;)
@@AnimalFactoryAmplificationoh I am absolutely preparing to go down the modular rabbit hole 😂 do you mind if I ask; what was the modulation that the Trinity was performing?
@@sustomusickillsyoutube so the Trinity is controlling two parameters, it's controlling the 'Wet Vol CV' on the Godeater which gives the processed signal a kind of gated effect and more rhythm and the 'Burial CV' on the Baron Samedi, which just adds more fuzz and mangling but controlled externally!
That's awesome, really creative and unique!
Glad you like it!
would like to hear them on drums if its possible
There are a bunch of videos for this - the most recent one is here, but do go through our channel and playlists for more demos: th-cam.com/video/QGbew9bWB2A/w-d-xo.html - also check out the blog post here: animalfactoryamps.com/en-in/blogs/news/what-kind-of-candy-do-you-like-comparing-flavours-of-eurorack-distortion
Baron sounds so wild!
Would love to see some of youre awesome distortion circuits in a stereo unit soon!
👀
yep, for me a (perhaps simplified) stereo Samedi, or Godeater, would be fantastic tool for processing stereo stems from modular, daw, field recordings, entire mixes etc if it ever materialized, i'd suggest incorporating a mid-side circuit. non linear process like distortion, if used in simple dual mono config, tend to skew the stereo balance of the input source. and while not ideal, m/s helps remedy this to an extent. atm i use addac vintage clip with shakmat sumdif, and its a fantastic combo, but takes re-patching to engage/disengage.
@@clusterchord1 thanks for the great suggestions. simplified versions of our circuits in stereo have been on our mind for a while, particularly after Tannhäuser Gates. Yes, one thing that we always worry about is phase coherence in the low end post-distortion. We're going to work on it a bit more after the new pedals are out 😉
💣💥🥶❤Brutal❤🥶💥💣
I have been looking for a distortion that will make it sound like my speakers are breaking and that pit viper is calling my name 🙏🙏
That’s what we were kind of going for with that control! For the most part it’s a pretty normal overdrive, but that FM control just rips up everything.
Looks like I’m ordering one right after I come back from vacation. 👌
Thank you and enjoy your vacation!
The duck is siiiick. Good patch.
Hahhaha.....that snap
I hope they make it again in pedal format
Soon. ;)
Sounds great!!!
Interesting!

Your godeater is drunk.
˙ʞunɹp ǝɹ,noʎ 'ɹǝʇɐǝpoƃ ǝɯoɥ oƃ
I love your modules, they feel like cheating the sounds they are able create with some twists on the knobs.. Is there already any news on (the possible) expansions to come for this one and the godeater module 😇?
Love to hear that! On the expansion, we do have modules in development for it, will be announced as soon as they're ready!
Love it! Keep up the good work!
What is the estimated lifespan for those tubes? and what tis the length of the power cable?
Hey! It’s estimated about 1000-3000 hours according to the data sheet, the length of the power cable is ~1 meter.
Thanx to youtube algorythm otherwise I would never have found out about this company. I must have this filter. 😎
Glad the algorithm gods looked down favorably upon us. Don't forget to use code 'FIRSTANIMAL' for 10% off your first purchase on our site. 😉
@@AnimalFactoryAmplification I am in the EU. Anyway I will buy this VCF at our French store´.
@@randydarklight Amazing!
Amazing, any plans to update the godeater soon with SMT and led attenuators like the Baron? Might influence which way round I purchase them?
Hey! The Godeater is already 98% SMT manufactured, other than a 3-4 through hole parts. We don't foresee the LED attenuators coming to Godeater anytime soon, but don't let that stop you from picking one of them up! You can use code 'FIRSTANIMAL' to get 10% off your first purchase.
So, I got V1 yesterday. Probably 3-4 hours playtime since then, and it's good. Very good. My only wish is that it could have more spacing between the knobs (and maybe a freeze button.). Now I might need this one. Excellent work.
Thanks a ton! We added a couple of HP to V2 so we could space out the (sexier aluminium) knobs a bit more. The PT2399 chip doesn't really allow for an implementation of a freeze function, though. One of the many constraints when working with that deliciously nasty chip.
Those panels are beautiful. Digging the contrast.
Thank you! All done by @thebigfatminimalist, also check out our entire lineup at animalfactoryamps.com/collections/eurorack-modules ;)
What are the differences with v1 other than the tubes? Are these higher quality tubes or just different?
Very little. The circuit is almost identical except for some value tweaks to accomodate the new tubes. The control layout on this one is perfectly mirrored down the middle, unlike the previous one. The tubes are quite different. The original had metal can 6SJ7s which haven't been made since the 60s. We only had a limited number of those, hence the limited initial run. You can probably find them a lot easier in the US though. The new version uses either EF86 or its equivalent 6J32P, of which at least the EF86 is still in production. Although it was designed to supersede the 6SJ7, they don't sound nearly alike in our opinion (and probably others too).
This is some heavy ass next level tech dub. Subtle, but real nice.. love the trashy ending.
Can never have enough feedback. 😉
master of the universe!!!
By the power of grayskull!
Love the Godeater’s low end distortion 👍🏻
Can go from subtle to destructive very quickly! Hope you're loving yours. :)
@@AnimalFactoryAmplification absolutely I do! Even my wife thinks it’s a very special piece of gear.
