This was a song written by Major Joy Webb and originally recorded by the Joy Strings in the mid 60's. It has always been one of my favourite 'Joy' songs. Simple lyrics, but what truth they hold. Have Faith In God Learn to believe again Have Faith in God His love will never fail.

Hi, nice and interesting video. My dads family came from the blockhouse, dad was born in bowling green terrace I think, my great uncle was the landlord of the Waterloo pub for years, I’ve traced a lot of family living there over a long period. The name was Andrews, also the Holes. Cheers (you don’t have a photo of the Waterloo pub? Been trying to find one for years)

Hi! Hope you don't mind, I just noticed your comment as I was looking through & thought I'd let you know that there is a photo of the Waterloo pub on the Changing Face of Worcester website, as part of the Marsden collection, which came from the Worcester Life Stories Project (run by the Worcester City Historic Environment Record). Unfortunately it's not a photo of when it was in use, but it is nice, believed to have been taken post 1965. It's Marsden sleeve 16, photo 10. Naomi

@@naomitaylor1806 Hi Naomi, thanks for the reply it’s much appreciated especially as I’ve been looking for a photo of the Waterloo for years. We have a long association with the blockhouse area going back 150 years and probably more and we still own a business premises in Carden close. Many thanks again. Rich.

The streets looked so much cleaner than they do now. Fast food disease has made us fat, the streets dirty and plagues of vermin.

Wow - I have no recollection of the passenger overbridge at Foregate Street station. Do you happen to know when that was demolished? I guess the photo would be between 1958 and 1965 judging by the DMU.

Thank you Keith! In my schooldays my two favourite shops in Worcester were Frosts - for model railways and Porters for electrical items. That picture of Porters is exactly how I remember it. Only in very recent years have I thrown away the TV aerial I bought there. It could be the one shown in the window!

I was an electronics hobbyist kid in the 70s and went to school round the corner so was a regular customer. Many years later my wife took a job working at the estate agents that use the shop now. The inside is unrecognizable.

Hardly any changes they made were for the better. We've lost so much that, if it had been kept and renovated, would have enhanced our precious city. Far too many jewels were destroyed in the name of ''progress''. But thank you, Mr Lewis, for reminding us how it used, so that we can look through the greyness of today and see the well-loved buildings that we remember.

Love Worcester, stationed at Norton Bks in 71, loved Norton Bks, beautiful countryside & town centre. Would start our pub crawl at Dudfields, Shakespeare, Horn & Trumpet, Dolphin, Dive Bar (hic), stagger to Swan & Two Necks & a good Chinky curry or saveloy & chips, taxi Norton, bed 🥱😴

Was stationed at Norton Bks 1971 & loved the Bks which is rare in soldiering & also Worcester, married there till 1986, worked at Berrows Newspapers & miss the place every day & my ashes will be scattered there.

I came to Worc in 1971 as a soldier at Norton Bks. Bliss, Norton Bks was the best ever & the town centre & the area became my home. I married a local lass but sadly parted. I unfortunately don't live there now & miss it every day, I still visit & go to the pubs still left, ahhh the Dive Bar at the weekend was heaving, so many pubs in a small centre. The pub crawl. Secret fav was the Gaiety Bar.

I understand that the condition of many of these terraced houses was very poor and at the time it must’ve seemed that demolition was the only option. I cannot but reflect that had wiser counsel prevailed as it would today many of these buildings would’ve been saved and we would’ve had a much nicer city. Rose tinted spectacles I know. But I am reminded of the motto of Banks‘s brewery. “Unspoilt by progress“

Those were indeed tough but happy days as a child, folks would say good morning to each other even if they didn’t know them, tin baths in front of the fire. I’m off to see my auntie today, she’s 86 I’m sure we’ll get the old photos out and swing the lamp, looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing.

Now I have done all that... Well, truthfully, I wish I was back there finding out that my life has been just a dream after all & my Mom, Dad, family & Worcester are all just as I left them fifty years ago... Thankyou...👍❤
