Welcome - the name is Roger and this channel reflects on a few of my interests. The videos are biased towards mechanical and electrical topics but not exclusively. For what I have learned from people on TH-cam I am extremely grateful. You name a subject then there is someone out there that is sharing their knowledge for all to benefit from. My hope is that if you view any of my videos that they may be of use or interest to you. I try to keep them as simple to understand as possible for any first timer. We all have to begin somewhere so if you are young or old, have faith in your abilities, don’t be put off trying to learn something new or what you may consider too daunting. If you look long and hard enough there is someone out there with exactly the information you need and presented in a fashion you can understand, and you will find them on TH-cam. Naturally - nobody reads this stuff or do they?
VENTOY – Boot your favourite .ISO Files from one USB Memory Stick
Ventoy is a software programme used to create a bootable usb memory stick to carry multiple operating systems in the form of .iso image files ready for installation.
Covered in the video is the installation and running of Ventoy on Linux Mint and Windows (11); plus using the prepared USB stick to install an OS.
Video suitable for those with minimal experience of the subject. (Like me) Experts? - It’s too slow for you.
00:00 Intro
01:21 Downloading “Ventoy”
02:53 Installing and running Ventoy on Linux Mint.
09:38 Loading prepared USB memory stick with .iso image files.
11:29 Demonstration of a clean install of an OS (Windows 11) (Note: 1)
27:17 Install and run Ventoy on Windows 11
Note1:
This is a “clean install” for which activation with a product key will be required - ultimately! Should you wish to continue using it!
Please note: I understand that if you already run Windows 10 you can “officially upgrade” to Windows 11 for “free”. I do not know the method required to do this but it will save the purchase of a new “product key”. No point going to this expense when there is no need.

Ford C Max Broken Bonnet Lock - Bonnet/Hood Closed
มุมมอง 7221 วันที่ผ่านมา
To replace the bonnet lock on a Ford C Max (2009) the bonnet/hood has to be open. The lock failed with the bonnet closed and these are a few tips, including the tools used, that may help accessing the lock mechanism. The procedure I used was to remove the splash guard to access the back of the scrivets that hold the top or the radiator grill in place, and then push them out. (These are normally...

Hi, I repaired this charger, led green blinking but makes a weird noise
21:10 I just tried recapping the viewfinder to this cam and I get the exact same result. Personally frustrated that I'm currently seeing no way to reverse that:(
Mine stopped rotating, how do I fix that
How about cutting through the outer spring with a junior hack saw, and stopping before you cut through the inner as well. I don't know if you could then prise apart the two halves of the spring enough to get a grip on the inner. I don't know what I am talking about - I haven't got the car and I don't have the problem but do you reckon that would be an alternative?
Yes, you probably could use a junior hacksaw, provided the blade had the right teeth. It really is a case of how much room you have to work. It could be done holding a standard hacksaw blade in a handle, but that file worked a treat, it was small enough not to be cumbersome and the right coarseness for that metal. I could have used one of my small angle grinders. Probably, others would like to try a cutting wheel on a Dremel. (You don’t want to hear my opinion on these) However, the time taken getting the kit out, as to five minutes with the file, seemed a no-brainer to me. It’s easy to get fancy tools out and grandstand like the big boys on youtube, but I guess that those watching this video are looking for solutions - not entertainment. If a few find the video useful it will have done its job.
Hey man, how's it going ? I have a problem here. so bricked my Lenovo ThinkPad A275 bios and now it doesn't turn on but shows there's power. and I'm wondering should I replace the bios chip (I've found similar ones on AliExpress) or I should flash n reprogram it using the ch341a programmer ? the bios chip is a winbond W25Q128FWSQ 16mb, and 1.8v looking forward to a quick feedback thank you

hi, I have the marking of the second resistor on the first side, where the first one, as you said, is 330k and the second one is 11k, not 12k but 11k. did you manage to repair this power supply? if when you turn on the 220V network power the green LED blinks - is it normal? I did not check it with a load with a battery
Thanks for the clarification on the resistor values. It does help. I still intend to change them out as the markings have become unreadable, either by me when cleaning, or perhaps it occurred at the time of the fault. However the unit continues to run quite happy, and yes it is normal for the green light to blink with no load. Cheers Roger
The volume buttons on my hk695 works but the max volume is very low, is it related to this module?
My friend complained about very low sound. Initially I thought the problem may have been in the preamp which is housed with the subwoofer unit. The subwoofer was working fine. However, the side speakers were very low and slightly distorted. The speaker cones were non-existent! They had crumbled to nothing. Worth checking this first by removing the speaker grill to the side speakers. If these are intact then the problem is elsewhere. Always worth checking all the plugs and sockets first before looking for problems like this. Start with the simple stuff, don’t go looking for trouble unless you have to. As to the amplifier and preamp - I know nothing about the circuit details for fault finding.
@@colemanus1318 Thank you for the tips.

A POLITE NOTICE: This video is useless for those trying to repair their vehicle - go find another one - stop wasting your time here - at least read the description. Even if you think your actuators are faulty - you can’t test them to prove they work or not - hence you will never know.

Hyper useless clip whete this actuator located ffs?
So annoying !You wasted my time
Thank you🎉
You need a 690 Ohm resistor bettween sleeve and tip of the jack to add the volume. but the system always starts from default sound level (low) after being disconnected to power so you definitely want to assemble a simple button to raise the volume
Thanks for taking the time to post this information - this will bring a lot of hope to those struggling without the volume control. If anyone out there tries this, please respond with your results to confirm it works. It really does help all of us with the same problem.
U are the Best ❤❤
Yes went thru all that. Bottom line is that screw adjustment on the jack valve. To work properly with lever released that valve plug should be fully out. This means jack can be fully pressurized and no internal release of fluid can happen. The problem is that to obtain proper operation that valve plug will need to move in about a quarter inch. Only way to adjust. I personally do not feel safe with that. That valve plug should be fully out to ensure safety and no fluid release . Issue is the linkages are not properly designed to allow full valve travel. At some point I will need to correct that. I will build some rods to put under if ever heavy weight. Not very safe. The 500 pounders have safety bars built in for that purpose
Should've just 3d printed a thicker bracket so you didn't have to do all that metal work and just added the bracket and drill 2 holes and be done with it. But great mods!
On mine the air gun has a reed switch inside it that is switched by the magnet in the holder.
I never did get round to taking it apart so I'm not sure what is in this one. A reed switch makes more common sense considering the high temperatures involved withing the hot air gun. My assumption was based on another hot air gun given to me while working on this one. I took it apart, it was really well insulated inside and there wasn't anything that looked remotely like a reed switch, (not the ones of my experience). So I assumed "Hall Effect" and am probably wrong. Thanks for pointing it out.
hi re cap small caps is a right pain i have done it i have had to change 40year old caps in pro gear the pcb's going bad is a thing to not the caps because i recap gear later i worked out the pcb was bad
Leaking caps, if left, are so corrosive given time. Not uncommon for PCB track damage to happen. I'm itching to pull this camera apart again and another one of similar vintage. Basically, to check the caps! But the problem is time - I don't have any to spare.
you have a good point about the cable i have one as well i had to change the 240 cable as well i am the boss in my pad ladies are a pain i have cats lady's they are used to have a human one she was a right pain tryed to take over the pad in my name lady's like to take over the place so she had to go i have a work shop down stairs room was used as a sitting room some of the tec gear now is very badly made now i had so many poor toolss of the net it's a lotto now
If one has a permanent work area where test/repair equipment has its place, then that mains cable may never become a problem. Mine gets fairly well mistreated. As to who is Boss - guess who just came in and quietly put a cup of tea by my side as I go through the comments. It took a life time to find a lady to put up with me. I'm definitely not an easy person to live with. I agree with you about the quality of tools, but if one or two are really useful, it's wise to modify them to suit ones needs.
🙏🏼
My goodness it is taking forever to listen to this guy....he must have nothing else to do!!!!
Very interesting Roger. You are absolutely right about cutting away from yourself. If you want to see the results of not doing that, look at Big Clive's plastered left hand. As for the steppers, one might wonder about the fact that the Mercedes dealer I called in at ( in France) happened to have three of them in stock. That sounds as if they are a known fault so they keep a ready stock of them. If the ones they returned to me do in fact work correctly it looks like a scenario I am familiar with: All that needed doing was to un-stick some sticking plastic hinged levers, and spray them with a bit of lubricant. However, because they had to dismantle the dashboard to get at the levers they would feel justified in charging 4 hrs labour. Which they did take by the way. And the interesting thing about the invoice was that they charged each separate part of doing the job at different labour rates, ranging from €70/hr to €110/hr down to 0.1 of an hour. My nearest MB commercial dealer charges a flat rate of £180 per hour making it cheaper to drive to France to have work done.
Good to hear from you Andrew and thanks for filling in the detail of the repair, this will be of interest to others. 1. I’m with you - those flaps stick. It would be fun going down the airways with an endoscope and seeing what is going on for real. If the fans get in the way just drill an access hole somewhere convenient. 2. The cost of employing a certified Merc. Electronics Engineer and having a tester to check those units makes it far cheaper to just throw them away and fit new ones. The fact it worked is more testament to the connectors getting a workout, than the units being faulty. 3. Three units all failing together - NEVER! This is a very niche subject and I’ll email about what I could test - save irritating those out there looking for answers and not getting any.
Apology for referring to the vehicle as having a positive earth system? IT IS NEGATIVE EARTH. The pins at the connector are: Pin 1 - System Ground (Earth). Pin 2 - LIN Bus (At this point there is a 220pf capacitor to ground which is typical of LIN bus interface requirements at the chip, but some circuits do have a TVS.) Pin 3 - Is the way used to address individual units on the LIN Bus There is an approximately 1 ohm resistance to Pin 2. I think it is used as current sensing. This is all inside the IC. Surprisingly, there are several methods used to address individual units on a LIN bus. I don’t know how this one works. Pin 4 - System positive voltage supply. (+V) Note: The Ground (pin 1) to the Supply (pin 4) is protected from reverse voltage spikes by a diode within the IC. Pin numbers are arbitrarily assigned in the video. I was sent more units to take apart, hence this update of sorts. There is another video and I hope it’s the last one I ever make on the subject. (Yawns Loudly!) Link th-cam.com/video/v3iVwWMf1SI/w-d-xo.html
Video talk show
Couldn’t agree more - it’s always an unsatisfactory outcome when there is nothing wrong with them in the first place. I’ve tested 4 units to date, three supposed to be faulty and one new one. Difference - NIL - it’s one big yawn and a waste of time. There are no answers here for any of us.
Thanks so much from Russia! This was really helpful!
It's pleasing to know the video is still helping people around the World. Thanks for taking the time to comment
Can you repair my Sony handycam trv-97 viewfinder ? I’ve been looking everywhere to get it fixed it randomly shut off and stopped showing
I’m willing to pay ;(
Sadly, the answers no. I do all this sort of stuff for fun - it keeps me amused. There is one guy I know on TH-cam that does this sort of work. His handle is 12voltvids (@12voltvids). It's worth checking out his channel even if it goes nowhere. th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=12voltvids The only drag is that he is in Canada but do have look all the same. Lots of these problems are down to connectors and there are plenty in Camcorders. I only repaired that old Camcorder because I needed to recover my old Tapes. They are challenging beasts to take apart! Only those that know how (or are a fool like me) would try.

What about sticking a bunch of thermocouples to various chips on the board you might suspect and seeing which ones get hot?
If only the components were that large. If they were, one can get sticky temperature labels that work quite well. Most of the components are smd and lots of them are less than 2mm in size. The Rosin atomizer works well for this sort of work, and so does watching isopropanol (IPA) evaporating faster on the hotter components. I have used thermal couples to measure temperatures on large components, it works fine, but when the business end of the thermal couple is bigger than the component one has resort to something else. If I was earning a living doing this sort of work I would invest in a high resolution Thermal Imaging Camera, rather than choke on the fumes from the rosin or have the chance of the IPA going up in flames.
@@colemanus1318 "I would invest in a high resolution Thermal Imaging Camera" - you could also get one of the cheaper cameras for smartphones, and put a lens in front so it focuses up very close (This is what I have done - works great) Cloudray makes some PVD focusing lens for IR lasers, which also works with FLIR. I can't see much difference between Meniscius and Plano Convex, I got the 20mm diameter size - with various focal lengths for extreme close ups and longer away ones. If I put an USB cable on it, I can also use it as a 'webcam' on my PC :ø) It really is a useful tool, not only for doing electronic repairs but also seeing insulation/cold/hotspots issues, electrical wiring issues (bad connections gets warm), etc.
Is that met
NO! - It’s mainly Ethanol CH3CH2OH and Methanol CH3OH. To make it undrinkable it has other chemicals added that don’t change the structure of the Alcohols and it is commonly coloured purple to make it obvious what it is, the term for this is “denaturing”. It is sold in this Country as "Methylated Spirit" which is commonly abbreviated and spoken as the word “Meths”.
I think If you were grinding the Rosin first, It might be help.
Thank you for the suggestion, I did try powdered rosin and it proved too fine and difficult to fill the atomizer with the right amount. Grinding the rosin smaller as you suggest, (perhaps to the size of granulated sugar?), may make it easier to judge the right amount and worth trying. In practise, one soon gets used to selecting the right size chunk of rosin so that one doesn’t overfill it.
I don't know how to thank you enough for being so considerate of our time. I truly appreciate it.🙏
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated - we all have different skill levels and there is nothing more frustrating than going over subject matter we are familiar with just to get to the minute or two of information that attracted us in the first place. I try to make it easier for the experienced to find what interests them whilst still maintaining useful information for those not familiar with the subject. I don’t care about popularity, number of views, or anything else that drives the “seasoned youtuber” to make videos. If a few find what I have to share useful then the video has done its job.

Hi Roger. I've been able to identify the 2 unlabelled resistors mentioned at around 2mins. The upper one, just under the 2 capacitors is 104 (100k) , and the lower one in the bottom right corner is 472 (4k7). Hope this helps somebody. Brian
Brian - you are a star! Thanks for replying. Two heads are better than one. Strange as it may seem I was just about to order them. Now I can do it with some confidence I'll get it right! Roger
My cable actually came off the release handle. Would you happen to know how to reattach? Or can I use the adjustment bolt underneath to lower it?
No - I don’t know! The procedure, all though basically similar, will vary from model to model, or manufacturer to manufacturer. WORK SAFE AT ALL TIMES. If your table is raised make sure that it is supported with a block of wood to ensure the table does not collapse and trap you should you release the hydraulic pressure. Otherwise there is an extremely high chance of serious injury. Turning the table on its side is a safer option while servicing or accessing parts under the table top. EXPERIENCE: For those with limited or no experience of mechanical engineering, the safest option is to get someone who knows what they are doing to do the work. I find it worrying that anyone would ask this question, when to me the solution is obvious on the model I have. Please be careful when repairing and using hydraulic equipment. Never rely on it where your, or anyone else’s, safety is at risk. Be aware that hydraulic systems can fail at any time.
Around about 2 minutes in I mention two components without any marking. Please note: they are both resistors - the one at the bottom right corner is 4.7Kohm and the other one is 100Kohm.
Really appreciated you making this video Roger. It’s been very helpful. I'll let you progress on my repair once the parts arrive from China! Thanks again. Brian
Pleased to have helped you out Brian. And do keep us updated on your repair progress. It's always good to share our experiences as it does help others in the same boat. Roger
Hi Roger. I have a similar board for repair, and have found your video to be very helpful! Faults are the same, but the damaged components on the PFC daughter board are the two resistors on the opposite corner to the cap/resistor you replaced. (Same side of the board) The values look like 6202 (62k) The other one right on the edge of the board I think is 1202 (1k2). Would you by any chance know the true values of these please?! I've checked on your video but can't quite make out the numbers. Thanks very much. Do you have an email I could post a picture to you? Thanks Brian
Brian, it would be a pleasure to check, I actually took some still close-ups for future reference. 1202 is 12Kohms not 1k2. Currently I'm recovering from an eye operation and can't see too well at the moment, hence no vids in the pipeline. That little daughter board runs too hot for its own good in my opinion and probably is the trigger for most failures. Anyway, I'll post the image on this channel ASAP. Hopefully, later today. Cheers Roger
Thanks very much for the information. I realised I misread the 12k as I was in a rush to get out this morning. I'll look out for updates, and hopefully you'll be feeling better very soon. Brian
Great video and thorough progressive working through the problem. Thanks for preparing it.
