Metal Dragon/Life on Mars Evercade Cart Review
I had fun completing this game on stream. It's definitely odd but not that bad.
Yeah, it's a pretty good game. Not particularly challenging, despite my pathetic efforts on some of the levels. I blame the flu.
@genejoke8538 🤣
I'd pretty much agree with your summary there. Solid year without any bad carts. I've loved Thalamus and Bitmap 2, Tomb Raider even though many haven't.
@@CrazyBurger yeah, I guess it helps having fairly broad tastes and the time to put the effort into less instant games.
This was a heck of a ride going in blind!
Shaun was the last chimney 😢
This was a great year. I have loved every year, and it's hard to rank them, but I think this was my third favorite year after 2020 and 2023, and just behind 2023. Then again I haven't opened my surprise Alpha yet...
I have almost no nostalgia for C64 or Amiga games, but I have loved all of them but Team 17.
@@KeenRetroGames yup, you just have to put the effort in with some of the games. To some degree I think data east arcade 2 falls into that category too.
Great video mate 👍
HAIL VECTRON!
Good luck! Yeah, a few of those games are manual-required, including Buzz Bombers.
I really like this game and is a great addition to Indie Heroes 4.
Absolutely agree 👍
I think about the lucky kids that had a neo geo back in the day
At 1:05 I kept thinking there were more platforms above and it kept throwing me off.
The Genesis version has a much wider viewport where you can easily see the moving platforms ahead. I don't know why Blaze uses so many inferior SNES versions but I wish they would stop.
This almost makes me want to go against me better judgment and pick up the Sunsoft Collection 2 :-)
The fish give you presents
Spot l'opportunité pour le fromagé!
This is a present 'em up, or premup for short
@@KeenRetroGames premup sounds like something else entirely
I want a sega one someday :D maybe they can work out a deal
Built-in games only and no carts would be seen as a betryal in the eyes of the most loyal fans, who have just bought their Street Fighter/Megaman Alphas.
@@CZpersi yeah, I think that would disappoint everybody, but it sounds like cartridges are on the cards though.
Finally one of my favorite companies, I'm ready for the pre order
It's probably gonna be an Arcade BarTop again 😊 I doubt the evercade can handle the spirits scaling effects 😅
I don't think it'll have any trouble running the games, but another bartop wouldn't be a huge surprise.
Neo Geo was powerful for it's time but Evercae can definitely handle it.
Read the press release. It's going to be Carts, Super Pockets and Bartops. They say several thing from SNK throughout 2025-26.
I'm not sure if the Evercade will be able to cope with emulating NeoGeo so we might end up with the PS1 ports like Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors on the Sunsoft Collection 2. I'm pretty sure all the earlier arcade games that appear on the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection will be no problem. Just a thought. Keep up the awesome work!
Pretty sure the cheapest Raspberry Pi has the horsepower to emulate the Neo-Geo - I was playing Neo-Geo Arcade games on our old Pentium II 400 Mhz machine in the late 90's, so I'm not sure why they would have any difficulty on the Evercade hardware. Not like they're trying to emulate the Saturn or the Dreamcast or something.
@yellowblanka6058 Let's hope so :-)
Good summary
You can break the seal's trail by going through the water.
Astrosmash gives you so many lives it can be played forever with little skill. The Atari 2600 port is much more challenging and lots of fun with a paddle controller.
Congrats on your new channel and just subscribed. Came from the Evercade Discord channel
Great video! They take time to meet on their own terms, but I find INtV games always have some brilliant little idea that makes them an interesting play
@@VGRobot thanks, you and Joshua game me the push to get on and start giving them a proper go.
Just reminds me that we need James Pond 2: Codename Robocod on the Evercade :-) Keep up the awesome work!
@@jayme69 Robocod would be great. I never played the first game. I never got very far in the 3rd one though.
Good video and a fair assessment of the games, I’ve tried ultimate tennis on my exp and vs-r and both have the invisible ball bug from the start,I’ve never tried to save on either system, is there anything I can try to get the ball back? Keep up the good work really enjoying your video’s
@@antonyhopkins4585 I think a recent update might have exacerbated the issue. It definitely worked pretty well a few months back. It's been reported to Blaze so hopefully they'll fix it in a future update. Haven't found a way to get it to work on VS, occasionally it does, very occasionally, but for now it seems borked.
@@TheEvercadeRetreat thanks for clarifying, hopefully they will fix it as it was definitely one of my main reasons for buying,I’m really into the Silk Road at the moment so still happy with the cart overall
I really enjoyed everything except the fighting games. Definitely guilty pleasures except for Ultimate Tennis, Steel Force, and Silk Road.
@@KeenRetroGames yup, there's definitely fun to be had with all of them to some degree.
This cart is one of my guilty pleasures and yes I've experienced the invisible ball bug with the tennis as well. Interestingly I noticed that Diver Boy, Burglar X, Fancy World and Steel Force are included in the Bonus Games on the Atari Gamestation Pro with another 30 Piko/Gaelco games from the various Evercade Collections. Keep up the awesome work! :-)
@@jayme69 yeah, I saw there's a whole bunch of other arcade games Piko have on the Gamestation pro. Some looked interesting. It'll be interesting to see if there are any future Piko collections, arcade or otherwise.
Excellent game. I still need to try the rest of Toaplan 3 but this keeps pulling my attention back to it
@@bestselling_octopus yup, similar here. I've played through both versions a couple of times and played a fair bit of Outzone and a little Truxton 2. The rest is untouched so far.
Nice! My next 2 carts just shipped.
@@Evercade_Effect Batsugun and Outzone have grabbed me the most so far, I've been neglecting other games as a result.
@@Evercade_Effect there's so many good games on them though.
Great review and good content/strucute. Only a little hard to hear. Need a better mic and reduce the background music sound a little.
Usually his mic sounds fine but the background music here is both very attention getting and very loud. It makes it very hard to focus on Gene's dulcet tones.
Good video to catch up with the Toaplan carts with. Very much looking forward to Toaplan 3 with those run ‘n gun games!
The only flaw in your plan is the very idea that Disney might actually make the right decision when given the opportunity to do so.
This is my 41st favorite Evercade cart. I like Minky Monkey but it may just be the rudest game on Evercade.
Blockout and Mysterious Stones are two of my favorite games on Evercade.
This came in at #9 in my Evercade cart ranking. World Rally is so good on Evercade and so bad everywhere Piko has released it.
This is like a collection of games from those arcade cabinets at the back of your local arcade that were left on 10p a play because they simply weren't popular. All ok but nothing outstanding and a good pick up for your Evercade Alpha. Keep up the awesome work!
Minky Monkey is a stone cold classic and would definitely rate higher for me but fair comment with the Double Dragon offerings even though I am a fan, jank is jank :-) Keep up the awesome work!
Excellent cart, very strong start to finish!
Looking forward to picking this one up with my Alpha
Really enjoying your reviews. Like the music tracks, too!
Fair reviews but Centipede on the 2600 will always be the real winner. Being designed with digital input in mind it's the version that plays perfectly with a digital joystick or d-pad :-) Keep up the awesome work!
The 7800 version is also designed for digital input and the spider behaves a lot more reasonably 😉
Double Dunk is pretty fun if you figure out to play it. Steeplechase is a good time for me too. Tempest is my least favorite game on the Evercade if only for its insult to a glorious name. At the risk of having my Atarian credentials revoked, I really don't care for 2600 Asteroids or Centipede. The warping spiders in Centipede are really what ruin an otherwise fine game for me. This is my 6th favorite compilation, mostly for Adventure, Video Pinball, Food Fight, Aquaventure, Alien Brigade, Ninja Golf, Missile Command, and the almighty Gravitar.
@@KeenRetroGames those warping spiders are a bit of an arse.
Yeah, Double Dunk has a surprising amount of depth, that definitely isn't obvious from the limited space in the cartridge manual.
First!!!!! 😅
Moon Patrol is a perfect game by my lights. The music is great too!
Definitely an ear worm :-) Keep up the awesome work!
Very cool. 😃
