Getting Started with Linux Mint 22.1 “Xia”
Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution whose goal is to provide a classic desktop experience with many convenient, custom tools and optional out-of-the-box multimedia support. It also adds a custom desktop and menus, several unique configuration tools, and a web-based package installation interface. Linux Mint is compatible with Ubuntu software repositories. Besides its Ubuntu-based flavour, the project also produces a separate "Debian" edition (called LMDE), based on the latest stable Debian version.

Part 90 Commercial Gear for DMR or Ham Radio Gear, which should you choose?

Comparing the benefits of Part 90 radios versus regular amateur radio gear for DMR. Ultimately I love using both, but there are benefits to using both types of radios. I find myself using my TYT UV-380 with OpenGD77 more often because the radio is dual band and stores more channels per zone. The cost is also a better selling point for me because I don’t have to purchase a separate cable, a newe...

Much more interested in functionality--what it can do, rather than the babble. Any tips, please as to where I can find said functionality? Thank you

    • @psocretes8183
      @psocretes8183 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You need a gateway node: Gateway setup: The gateway node is configured to act as a bridge between the Meshtastic network and the internet. This usually involves enabling a setting in the Meshtastic device's configuration. Message relay: When a message is sent from a device on the Meshtastic network intended for the internet, it is relayed through the gateway node. Internet access: The gateway node sends the message to the internet, typically using a service like MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport). Reverse process: Similarly, messages from the internet destined for the Meshtastic network are received by the gateway node and relayed to the appropriate device on the mesh. Examples of gateway nodes: A Meshtastic-enabled device with Wi-Fi: Some Meshtastic devices, like those based on the ESP32, have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities and can act as gateway nodes. A smartphone with the Meshtastic app: Your smartphone, when connected to Wi-Fi and running the Meshtastic app, can function as a gateway node. A Raspberry Pi with a LoRa module: A Raspberry Pi with a LoRa module and the Meshtastic software can be configured as a gateway node.

      @JustAGuyYaKnow42 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @psocretes8183 that's definitely the case here, too. What I don't understand is why meshtastic thinks that a publicly known encryption key is acceptable. The FCC seems to agree, but I still think encrypted with a key of WQ== is still encrypted.

    Thank you, exactly the question I had today, and have just found out about WPSD, and a newbie to pi-star. That the hardware install of the MMDVM took 5 minutes, and the software took best part of 2 hours, I am always looking for a simpler way to do things, because unlike fellow hams that love to build, I want to communicate ! Cheers

    I tried both. At the end, i decided to use WPSD, as it has much more configurable possibilities. As a bit downside, it seems to me that WPSD required a bit stronger hardware; but, still, it is worth to use. Also, Pi-Star frequently freezes my Orange PI Zero H3 hotspot....i do not know, why, but WPSD does not produce this.

    Nice work! I'm looking to try Meshtastic. I'm a 100% mobile ham operator; so, I'm probably going to add Meshtastic to my car. Question: What antenna do you have, the vertical wire with two open coils? I have a very similar antenna on my 900 MHz ham radio, except that it's gray. The person who gave it to me has no idea who makes it or its specs... only that it works and that he manages to find more at ham fests. Since you have a similar one, and it looks new, I'm hoping that you may know more. Thanks! -Scott

    Really cool tech, I wish such things were avaliable when I was a kid in the 80s/90s. There is an app called FireChat that does mesh with cell phones "shorter distances", but I never tried it. I also heard a few more carriers "Starlink partnering with T-Mobile for one" are going to release satellite to cell services, but you would need a cell phone with that kind of antenna.
